Tom Ford Patchouli Absolu. A perfume for the bedroom only, imho.
Tom does do strong scents very well, it must be said.

SemiNormal · 15/11/2016 23:31

YSL Manifesto and Samsara by Guerlain - my two absolute favourites!

Oldsu · 16/11/2016 00:46

Dontlaugh, I love Tom Ford he did one for Estee Lauder called Youth Dew Amber Nude discontinued now but I can still buy it on ebay.

My Favourite is Love in Black by Creed wonderful violet smell but too expensive for everyday wear

SlottedSpoon · 16/11/2016 03:51

Does anyone still wear Youth Dew? I visited DH's aunt in her 70s recently and she has an dusty, ancient bottle of it lurking on a shelf in her bathroom. I took a sniff and I was immediately transported back to being about 10 and my mum wearing it. It's powerful stuff and I think I like it but it seems so dated to me.

I actually hated those very heavy iconic perfumes of the 80s like Poison and Opium. They gave me a headache. But I did have some Private Collection by Estee Lauder and that was a big powerful fragrance, but more elegant and grown up than the Poisons and the Opiums I think.

I also love Chanel No.5 Eau de Parfum, it never dates, it lasts all day but it doesn't knock you sideways in a bad way. You can't beat it.

VintagePerfumista · 16/11/2016 06:01

Youth Dew is fabulous, as are many of the older perfumes named on this thread as having staying power.

I personally don't want to smell pink. Grin

BlackSwan · 16/11/2016 06:25

Tabac Blond by Caron or Chanel Bois Des Iles.

didofido · 16/11/2016 06:26

Montale 'Red Oudh' which is spicy, Christmassy and luxurious; or 'Black Oudh' more eastern, but not in-yer-face. Both last through a soak in the bath. Not easy find tho', which means you're unlikely to come across anyone else wearing them - try Ebay.

If you don't like oudh or don't trust Ebay, then Serge Lutins 'Daim Blond'. Soft suede and apricots - and very sexy.

engineersthumb · 16/11/2016 06:26

Wow... I thought it ws a mistake when women wore eye watering perfume! From the male perspective strong perfume is awful, the particular smell doesn't matter it's just the over powering of one of our senses. Though I think aftershave is a character flaw too!

Hersetta427 · 16/11/2016 08:47

My two all dayers are flowerbomb by victor and rolf and Night Princess by Vera Wang.

I generally wear much lighter perfumes though and am a fan of some of the summer versions of perfumes libe Daisy Eau so fresh my Marc Jacons.

Pisssssedofff · 16/11/2016 09:26

I've just bought the Tom ford orchid exlior or something like that, rose gold bottle, blew his pants off literally

RoastChickenDinner · 16/11/2016 12:33

I have been recommended 4160Tuesdays perfumes. I haven't actually smelled them yet as I'm waiting for my samples to arrive, but the descriptions on the website sound awesome and apparently they have a very good sillage.

Chemistria · 16/11/2016 12:42

agree with Alien, it is beautiful but you only need a small amount to leave a nice trail, get noticed etc. It's still strong.

I remember almost killing people by re-applying Eden by Cacharel every hour when I was younger, one spray would have sufficed and less is more usually.

also alot of the time even when you can't smell it, others around you can still get a very strong whiff.

but yes Alien (or angel), also by T Mugler, are gorgeous.

Nicky883 · 16/11/2016 12:45

Hypnotic Poison by Dior

Maz2444466 · 16/11/2016 12:56

Love Ghost Deep Night, by far my favourite perfume

rosesandcashmere · 16/11/2016 12:58

Chanel Coco Edp

Anatidae · 16/11/2016 12:58

Hermes 24 faubourg

I can no longer wear perfume after having had hyperemesis with my son. The heightened sense of smell has never left and I just can't cope with the olfactory overload any more :(

rosesandcashmere · 16/11/2016 12:59

Or 4160 Tuesdays Rome 1963

Bluntness100 · 16/11/2016 13:12

Gosh, so many old eighties perfumes being listed on here.

A perfume should be something uou smell as you get close to someone, I should not enter the room before uou and knock out everything in its wake.

When we wear perfume we stop smelling it after awhile, but often others don't. I've had times where I can't smell my perfume any more, haven't put it on all day and other people. Men and women, have commented you smell lovely what is that. So don't assume because uou can't smell it others also can't.

Go for a perfume uou like the smell of, not something to knock people's socks off, they will be able to smell it. Wear the body lotion as said, to give logevity or carry a small eat de toillete spritzer to refresh during the day. Use the eau de parfume in the morning.

slug · 16/11/2016 13:22

Just a note of warning about Alien and Angel. Both perfumes are known migraine triggers in many people (myself amongst them)

If you are wanting to make a statement, just make sure it's not "This woman gives me headaches"

DoubleNegativePanda · 16/11/2016 15:20

Goodness, something must be wrong with my nose. I absolutely love perfume, but I can't, can't can't stand Alien. It smells vile to me. Sharp, sour and...I'm sorry, but trashy. It always baffles me how many people love it.

The strong perfume I tend to favor, at least this time of year is Cinnabar from Estee Lauder.

Pisssssedofff · 16/11/2016 16:27

Angel
CK perfumes, make me heave I was hoping they'd been discontinued by now

HappyAxolotl · 16/11/2016 16:55

The key is to wear a tiny tiny amount. And don't reapply it when you stop smelling it as everyone else still can. I love Poison and so many people have asked what it is and been shocked to hear the name. They always say "that stuff normally stinks!" It certainly does if you overdo it and that doesn't take much.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 16/11/2016 17:03

you will have to try some and see...

for me, Poison last for two days....I smell it wafting off me in the shower next day and I love it.
it doesn't last on my mother, it just vanishes.

Opium does the same on the both of us

Estee Lauder Youth dew, Clinique's Aromatics Elixir (??) and EL Cinnabar all last well on her, I can only wear Cinnabar.

Gloria Vanderbilt is another long lasting one on me.
Have also tried a few Christian Dior ones and usually get good long lasting results with compliments.

my newest favourite is Guerlain's Insolence, that wafts and lasts nicely too.

FannyFog · 16/11/2016 17:09

Another with the 'less is more' philosophy, a good, well-formulated perfume applied with a light touch will last even when you have become anosmic to it.
Any of the Chanels, they are all famed for longevity and presence. I'd suggest you try a few, they don't all suit all people, Coco is my particular favourite, it has such a beautiful drydown and is very classy, always makes me feel sophisticated. Coco Mademoiselle is probably the most popular and is also lovely but is a bit 'obvious'. Chance is perhaps a more challenging choice and can be headachey but if you can wear it, do it, it's a knockout statement fragrance.

DaisyBernardMimiTinker · 16/11/2016 17:16

Alien is on offer in boots at the mo! Xx
