Any suggestions? Open to all types, just want it to last all day and smell beautiful.

OP posts:

Interested to see up post that 80s scents have oomph.
I only have an original 'vintage' bottle of 'Paris' YSL but that goes on and on. I can't vouch for a more modern bottle of it though.

Miller Harris' nearly new 'Vetiver Insolent' also keeps on going too.

Boudoir by Vivienne Westwood has the best staying power of any I've tried and it's very distinctive...

Thatwaslulu · 15/11/2016 11:08

Coco Mademoiselle or YSL Paris.

RockyBird · 15/11/2016 11:10

Blanc by White Company is strong, smells good and lasts all day.

Fucking expensive for an own brand fragrance though which is why I've never bought any but happy to have a liberal skoosh of the testers when I'm passing

RockyBird · 15/11/2016 11:12

Clinique Aromatics Envy

Bluntness100 · 15/11/2016 11:15

You don't want something over powering, that's never good. You want something that lasts, and a good way to do this is to layer scent, so use the body lotion then the perfume as an example and then it tends to last much longer.

FrustratedFrugal · 15/11/2016 11:48

If you need something that is enticing but not mega loud, may I suggest Musc Ravageur. Basenoters (who have tried zillions of perfumes) say it is one of the sexiest unisex perfumes ever created.

I have always liked big powerhouses like Obsession, Poison, Shalimar, L'Air du Desert Marocain and Coco, but you need to be subtle with perfume. Powerhouses are for your private enjoyment, the more nuanced oned for public consumption Wink

FrustratedFrugal · 15/11/2016 11:54

Moomintroll thanks of reminding me of Eau Lente. It is one of the best sweater weather perfumes out there, I will need to find my sample. Dries Van Noten from the Malle line has a similar vibe, it's lighter in feel and has less sillage.

Labdanum from Le Labo also provides a heavy dense sweetness that fully envelopes you. Only for really cold days.

polyhymnia · 15/11/2016 12:12

Agree with a PP, really don't think it's ever a good idea to wear an overpowering, 'knock your socks off' perfume and don't understand why anyone would want to do it.

In fact, I'd say it's not only not classy but downright anti social, as I loathe the nauseating smell of strong perfumes and being forced to be in the same public space. Restaurants are the worst because it spoils food but packed buses and tubes grim too.

I guess this can't be what the OP means - rather is looking for a lovely, subtle smell with good staying power?

MrsderPunkt · 15/11/2016 12:12

I've just got Dune by Dior after a 10 year break. It easily last all day (and into the next if you get close) but doesn't knock your head off like some of them.

HairsprayBabe · 15/11/2016 12:18

I know it is hated on here a lot but I love Dior Poison, but only Hypnotic not any of the other ones.
Sticks about all day and you can smell it for miles.
I also like Lush Vanillary and the black Lady Gaga one for the same reason.

JennyPocket · 15/11/2016 12:23

Angel, Alien and Poison are all strong but they are not what I would call "beautiful" smells, if by that you mean something pretty and floral?

The best one for that is Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf, hands down. Strong and beautiful. Lasts all day.

CoolCarrie · 15/11/2016 12:45

Juliette Has A Gun, Lady Vengeance by Ricardio Ricci, great nephew of Nina Ricci is stunning , I love it. There are different types and names like This Is Not A Perfume, etc under the brand of Juilette Has A Gun so get some testers and try them all and see which one you like. it is pricey, but lasts for ages.

TheWernethWife · 15/11/2016 13:02

Nothing shy about a Guerlain perfume, favourites are Shalimar, Mitsouko. Nahema and Samsara. Other good ones are Dune and Dolce Vita, YSL Paris and Femme by Rochas, I also adore Angel.

donajimena · 15/11/2016 13:06

Organza by Givenchy is the one perfume people will compliment me on.

FlyingElbows · 15/11/2016 14:58

Black Opium is lovely.

JanetStWalker · 15/11/2016 15:00

La Vie Est Belle, is horribly strong.

Tom Ford Noir pour Femme, is strong in a nice comforting kind of way.

SlottedSpoon · 15/11/2016 15:01

As soon as I read the thread title I thought of Alien by Thierry Mugler but I see someone got there with the first post on thread! It really is lovely. I can't tolerate too many 'in your face' perfumes but I love that.

RubbishMantra · 15/11/2016 15:15

Pure Poison is a lovely strong scent, but less "in ya face" than the original. The kind of perfume that makes you want to keep sniffing your wrist all day.

Also Givenchy Amarige is nice for winter, strong and spicy.

Chloe Rose is just gorgeous, not knock ya socks off strong, but you could layer with the body lotion, and it lasts through the day.

Sadly I can't wear perfume anymore, it gives me headaches. I make do with Molton Brown body lotions instead.

Sparkesx · 15/11/2016 15:33

Alien!

VintagePerfumista · 15/11/2016 16:04

You could always go for Secretions Magnifiques?

Notes of shit, blood, rotten fruit and skanky after sex bedsheets? (apparently)That would certainly knock something off...Wink

allfurcoatnoknickers · 15/11/2016 16:16

Tom Ford's Velvet orchid and Chanel Coco. Proper knock your socks off, change the taste of your colleagues coffee strong.

Also L'Agent by Agent provocateur. Not sure if it's been discontinued though...

MontyPythonsFlyingFuck · 15/11/2016 16:37

Eau Lente is beautiful when it warms up, which takes about 3 hours on me!

Timbuktu by L'Artisan Parfumeur is also gorgeous and long-lasting - spicy but not as in your face as e.g. Opium.

The point upthread about layering is also good. E.g. I'll use a fig perfume (Premier Figuier or Philosykos) but beforehand will use Korres fig shower gel and body lotion.

Spraying on to clothes rather than skin also makes it last longer.

salsamad · 15/11/2016 16:43

I love Black Opium by YSL, it's a sexy, lingering smell without being too overpowering or headache inducing. Works everytime on DH Wink.

myusernamewastaken · 15/11/2016 17:30

Ysatis is made by Givenchy not Guerlain....
