Hope that's an OK unilateral decision!

Perhaps you'd like to join us? Or would you be....too scared? Grin

CointreauVersial · 04/11/2016 22:48

Grin Not scared, but I'm a long way from granny eligibility.

MontserratCaballe · 04/11/2016 23:00

Evening all!

Herbs, so sorry about the job and the general sitch. Tutoring good and likely to pick up as schools ramp on the SATS pressure. Some private schools have entrance exams in Jan - would you be prepared to offer tutoring for those too?

Cocoa, so sorry about your friend. How was your meet up with Molly?

Beachy, I thought being more hygge meant getting under a blanket and lighting a candle. Is there a room layout like feng shui? Glad all your DC are at home. How is DS doing ?

BTM, how is your DS too? Might he be well enough to go back to school next week? Have you had any joy from the hospital with anything? Hope you can get some rest at the weekend.

Stropps, can you have a restful weekend? DD update? Thinking of you Flowers

Tis I who is going to do jury service. I am off to Blackfriars for 2 weeks on Monday. It is a bit of a busman's holiday for me, but I hope to have a fair old chunk of time sitting around reading my book, MNetting and possibly writing Christmas cards (usually done Dec 21 in our house). It will also be interesting to see what my fellow angry men are like.

3 things to be grateful for today:

  1. DD1 back from school 3 day trip and so happy to be home.
  1. Had a shellac mani and a pedi for just £40, during which I made a new friend. She is a TV producer (the glamour!) and gave me some sleb gossip. She is also a mum at DC school so I will get to see her again. Hurray.
  1. My dry (ish) November is going well on day 4. December is such a thirsty month chez nous that I am trying to give my liver a break and get into the trousers of truth. DH and I watched Gogglebox and drank tea. Rock and roll.

Happy weekend everyone Smile

Lalsy · 05/11/2016 00:01

ooomph, I am pooped. Fatbot clocking in at 31k steps today, after some lovely walking, happy volunteering and general charging around in rain and darkness. Too knackered for three things but liking idea.

Herbs, I don't get it about the job. Given the staff turnover (or have I got it muddled with something else), which did they take so long? and what a strange reason - who knows whether the other bod brainstormed ideas with their 20 closest friends. PU, brewery spring to mind. I think you may be well out - but hope something else can get sorted.

Sorry, not read everything yet.

Rosebag · 05/11/2016 08:11

Sorry about the job Herbs .... don't really understand the editing/publishing world but other Crepeys have wise words. Tutoring is massively in demand around here....once you've a foot in the door it could be just what you're looking for.

Funny old day yesterday...good meet up with BFF. Then a lot of work on the play and treated to a very nice breakfast. Late afternoon went pear shaped...i went for my flu jab to be somewhat surprised that i'd been booked in with a doctor (one I don't have a lot of love for...) instead of the nurse. After a good 30 minute delay, I was called in. He insisted I get on the scales and had a right go at me about my weight before finally giving me the jab. I could feel myself going really red in the face to my utter embarrassment, .I rarely blush. Now I'm really worried about the routine fasting blood sugar I'm having in a couple of weeks....harrumph.

Three things to be grateful for...

  1. that we are warm and have hot water again
  2. DDs excellent mid term report and her poignant comment that it was the first time she'd ever had a good report.
  3. last nights "Have I got news for you" which was the only thing that made me laugh pretty much all day
Stropperella · 05/11/2016 08:40

Rose, I am AngryAngry to hear about that stupid doctor lecturing you about weight. Wtaf?!?

Woah, Lalsy, 31K? That's good going. Are you having a rest day today.

MI, coming in late here, but I'm glad you've booked a gp appointment for dd2. It's great that she is talking to you about it, but it sounds as though it would be good to talk things through with a professional, given the family history. And sometimes reassurance is the best medicine. But needs to come from outside the family.

Monty, very well done on your work achievements. Hope that the domestic atmos is warmer and happier this w/e. Hope your jury service doesn't involve anything traumatic. When I did it, there were some icky photos of injuries to be viewed, among other things. I got called once when ds was v small and I was still bfing him. I deferred it back then, and they called me again once he'd started school. Which was v organised of them. Smile

Have not heard anything further from dd as yet. I'm not bothering to get my hopes up that this is because she is doing something useful. She has probably spent all the time since Wed either in bed or out on the piss. I predict that I will get more calls/messages about the futility of everything on Sunday. I wish she would recognise the fact that she and alcohol do not get along (now made infinitely worse by lack of meds).

Cocoa, so sorry about your friend.

I have always wanted a kune-kune housepig, but neither dh nor Stroppdog would be on board with this idea. However, I have told dh that I want Gnome Chomsky the Garden Noam for Christmas, and I think I am more likely to get that than a kune-kune. Grin

Stropperella · 05/11/2016 08:42

CV, Star Star for your dh Grin

Lalsy · 05/11/2016 08:46

Rose, Angry, how bloody dare he? Embarrassment and humiliation, just what people want from their doctor.

Stropperella · 05/11/2016 08:48

Oh, and I sort of got my MRI results yesterday. I say "sort of" because even though I had the scan at the beginning of last month, the radiologist's report has still not been produced, so what I heard yesterday was the doctor at the MSK clinic's interpretation of the pics. And I was talked through the pics. Slipped disc. No more high impact exercise for me and will have to look at swapping my car to an automatic. I hope to use "lifestyle management" to avoid surgery. Wish me luck!

NUFC69 · 05/11/2016 08:57

Sorry about the job, Herbs; they don't know what they are missing. Stropps, I hope you have a peaceful weekend with no upsetting calls that you can't do anything about. Boo to the doctor, Rose, but hurrah for DD, bless her. MrsS, well done on your self control.

Reasons to be cheerful, part 1:

  1. Brian and Trevor haven't been in use since yesterday morning.
  2. The jury officer rang yesterday and DH doesn't have to go in until Tuesday.
  3. I still feel happy when I look at the new flooring.

BTM, how is DS today?

Lalsy · 05/11/2016 09:09

Stropps, darn it about high impact exercise. Is there anything you can do instead. Excessive drinking seems so much part of fresher experience I think it would be really hard not to unless you are terribly secure, however bad an idea it is. I was pretty Shock at what dd told me and what goes on at london parties is hair-raising enough. But the social pressures are so much greater when away from home for the first time, trying to fit in, even without any other problems. IMO anyway.

Three things

  1. All family reasonably cheerful
  2. Sent off annoying bit of work this week and had lovely couple of days
  3. Couple of v touching moments in my volunteering yesterday

But I am very scared and upset about the attacks on the judiciary re article 50. More than a whiff of fascism.

Collymollypuff · 05/11/2016 09:18

I agree about the politics, Lalsy. The world's gorn mad.

Stropperella · 05/11/2016 09:31

Gosh, Herbs, I am sorry about the job. They are clearly nitwits, though, and don't know a good thing when they see one. Also, fantastically well done on the grammar course. Reckon you will be able to refine the idea and "monetise" it more efficiently in future. Although I think that tutoring is likely to make more money, as parents are prob more likely to pay you to help their kids understand the grammar than pay you to teach them (the parents) iykwim.

Stropperella · 05/11/2016 09:33

And Lalsy, yy to the appalling reaction to the judgment Re: art. 50. Ugh. It is all grim.

IDismyname · 05/11/2016 09:39

I had to turn BBC Breakfast News off this morning; I am so ashamed of.... well, I don't know, really.... Probably a mixture of being the laughing stock of Europe combined with how we are acting 'in house' re the judiciary/ press etc etc. The hole we are in gets bigger and bigger.

Reasons to be cheerful:

  1. New tea discovery. Only tried the English Breakfast and it is Lush.
Trumpers English Breakfast Tea Delighted to just discover they sell catering packs - just got to work out how to store it.
  1. Having 'given' myself to everyone this week timewise, I am really behind on domestic admin. Have a quiet day without DH and Bouncy Dog, so gentle stroll with Old Dog, and tackle paperwork.
  1. I part cooked Hugh Furry Whittingstalls Lamb and Squash Curry last night in slow cooker; adding the squash tonight for what I hope will be yummy yummy supper. It certainly smelt good.

Recipe if you want: Hugh F_W Lamb and Squash Curry

Stropperella · 05/11/2016 09:39

3 things:
At long last I know what is wrong with my back and is not all down to anxiety and "emotional tension" I feel sooooo much better for knowing this (despite the slightly frightening warnings about possible outcomes)
The sun is shining
And, er, it's Saturday.

Stropperella · 05/11/2016 09:42

It would have been my df's 108th birthday today Shock Will fire off a rocket tonight for the old bugger.

MrsFilthPacket · 05/11/2016 09:48

Awful week at work, unable to do anything right. This is a combination of a) not having any enough staff and b) working for a perfectionist who insists that everything has to have an "outcome" or "impact". Managed to stop Nice Young Man from dissolving into tears. Went to pub with them all last night, just stayed for one drink, boss asked why I was leaving so early, told him that I had had enough of work stuff and his company in particular. He said "Oh but I've got a late pass." I just left and got on the bus, we had Chinese and a relatively nice evening.

Three things to be thankful for:

My kobold vorwerk vacuum cleaner, courtesy of MN (hence the name change).
Going to my cousin's wedding this afternoon, with reception on a boat on the Thames.
Not having to work this weekend.

Stropps - I had a slipped disc that used to to slip with alarming regularity. I got it sorted with the help of an osteopath who gave me some exercises to do afterwards.

MrsFilthPacket · 05/11/2016 10:05

Cocoa - having tried a lot of tea, in search of the holy grail this one is our favourite. It used to be around £8 a kilo, but the price has shot up recently - still relatively cheap though.

motherinferior · 05/11/2016 10:22

I'm not a tea-drinker but my offspring are. I shall investigate.

Rose, wot Lalsy said. What an absolute arse to talk to you like that. Clearly ignoring all the stuff women are told about weight and bodies from such an early age.AngryAngryAngry

Am heading into town to get new Ladyjogging shoes.

I'm glad you're feeling better NU Was it a 24 hour bug?

Stropps I've been driving an automatic for quite a long time now...I'm not sure my back would take a manual any more, now I think about it. Good that you at last have a diagnosis. It's such a cop out when professionals blame everything on stress...

Cocoa I'm always interested in a new breakfast tea to try...

MrsF what an awful week and what a dick of a boss. Bloody outcome measures...don't get me started....Have a peaceful weekend and enjoy the wedding.

DH is away again. Just DD and me..again. She is doing homework and meeting new friend from her course this afternoon. I am doing...nothing.

How are the DS's?

I have received a text from the GP using for feedback from my experience yesterday. I have made a complaint....

Rosebag · 05/11/2016 10:26

ooooh more tea recommendations....

Rosebag · 05/11/2016 10:31

There is the most gorgeous tea house in St Albans.....

creepy visit maybe as it happens to be dog friendly iirc
