Hope that's an OK unilateral decision!

So sorry to hear about your friend, Cocoa, but have a lovely MU with Molly.

My DBiL is like BD and her DP: he has to have regular, frequent meals or he is likely to feel unwell, MI.

Well done on your course, Herbs; have you thought about asking for a deposit when people book, so you don't lose out if they fail to turn up?

DH has gone cycling on this lovely autumn day; I was going shopping but Brian (and the loo) have been in use, so I am feeling sorry for myself. And that reminds me, Herbs, re weather that often when DH was up here and I was still in Berkshire, he had nicer (but cooler) weather. However, we do have the wind....

Molly, am I right in thinking that you are doing jury service for the next two weeks, or are you a magistrate? DH has been called for two weeks this coming Monday.

herbaceous · 04/11/2016 13:28

I'm dying to do jury service. I think it would be ace. But I've never been asked.

Re course, I have set up an EventBrite page so that people can pay in advance, but it's a bit fiddly so I've said they can pay me on the night. Error.

Re NE weather, it does seem that while colder it's no wetter than London, being on the east.

A parenting win, of sorts. You remember DS's roman project that he/DP did in a rush on Sunday? He won Star of the Week for 'his' roman project today...

Sorry to hear Brian and his friend Trevor (toilet) have been pressed into service, NU.

IDismyname · 04/11/2016 14:20

I have decided that I am going to find 3 things every day to be thankful for, and maybe post them on here...

There is so much sh*te going on (and I'm not even talking politics) that we should try and live for the day - Carpe Diem. I come on here to moan, and I'm not usually a negative person IRL.

It goes without saying that I treasure my nearest and dearest, so they're not getting a mention...

  1. My garden. Went out and had a chat with myself in the greenhouse with rain pouring down - checked out soggy autumn colours and marvelled at Mother Nature, whilst doing a bit of tidying.
  1. My dogs who are curled up and my feet, but prodding me to remind me its time for a walk. Great guard dogs and soppy creatures.
  1. My new coffee discovery - Vanilla Coffee - YUM

I have a new tea discovery, but that will have to wait until tomorrow Grin

bigTillyMint · 04/11/2016 17:19

Herbs, did he win because his mum he was the only one who did it? Grin
And me too re jury service.

That looks yummy cocoa. If only there was a Waitress near me. I can also recommend the Dowe Egberts flavoured ones.
And great idea about the being thankful for 3 things.

1 - beautiful autumn trees /leaves when out
2 - cleaner has been today
3 - DD has gone to syay with her bf check.out the uni for the weekend Grin

I feel a g&t coming on...

herbaceous · 04/11/2016 17:54

Didn't get the editor job. Apparently boss thought I was very experienced and a good breadth of knowledge, but didn't like the ideas I'd come up with as much as another candidate. Apparently the other candidates are coming from unrelated titles. So, good luck with that, then. They'll be sorry. Mark my words. So, back to the drawing board.

My three thankful things?
1 I have wine
2 I have wine
3 I have wine

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/11/2016 17:57

AIBU to be pleased it's cold and raining here? Firework season - which seems to start a few days before Halloween and continue sporadically until New Year's Eve - is a nightmare. Every time there's a loud bang DevilDog runs around the house barking her head off for a few minutes. I have to sit with her with tv or music on VERY LOUD to drown out the fireworks - it's not exactly restful...

Like the being grateful Cocoa.

  1. I'm going to see ds1 tomorrow with dh and take him out for lunch from Uni.
  2. It's Friday and there's nothing more I HAVE to do until Monday.
  3. I'm really enjoying the book I'm reading (Shirley Jackson 'Let Me TellYou').

Well done on your course Herbs - think of it as a test run and regroup thinking about how to make money from it? Write a book on the same topic? A magazine article?

X posts Herbs. Bad luck - the fools to turn you down! Sounded a bit of a poison chalice in some ways...

Hurrah! An opportunity has come up already: spotted a vacancy for Poultry & Online Editor - Pig & Poultry Division. HIGNFY, here I come.

motherinferior · 04/11/2016 18:35

Bum, Herbs. Much sympathy. Am feeling thoroughly hacked off myself.

My three things:
This review copy I was sent this week
I have run four times this week and am going to swim tomorrow
I found a fabulous cashmere hoody in the chazzer today, a bit felted and definitely shrunk in the wash as it's supposed to be a 16-18, will fit DD2 gorgeously.

Oh ffs, DP is home early and STILL on the phone about admin for Guess What.

I only realise the ludicrous extent of his involvement when I tell normal people. I have Stockholm syndrome.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/11/2016 19:35

Ignore MI. Could be worse - TMATSNBN is pretty harmless as middle aged male 'hobbies' go isn't it? He could be getting pissed down the pub every night...

Collymollypuff · 04/11/2016 19:36

Sorry about the job, Herbs. Sad But as GGG says, poisoned chalice. I know from research for a mate that many of the major stores are recruiting Xmas staff, if that wouldn't be too much of a drop - I have sent him info about jobs at Tesco, M&S and Argos, all sounded quite convivial given the season. (Nothing is more likely to bring out the Bah Humbug in you, I expect, and we can share you pain if it helps.)

NU, no, not me but Monty doing something legal soon. Apologies for similar nicknames! I did jury service way back in the last century.

My 3 things (great idea):

  1. Saw adorable tutor today and he still loves me
  2. We're going to visit dd with the dog tomorrow
  3. I love fireworks, yay! (Sorry your dog doesn't, though, GGG)
Collymollypuff · 04/11/2016 19:38

^^ "your pain"

I am rather endeared by the idea of MI having Stockholm Syndrome.

herbaceous · 04/11/2016 19:46

It does indeed conjure up amusing images.

I have hit the wine already. DP is out with a friend. I will have solitary omelette for dinner.

But also am involved in a Facebook exchange with someone who wants a English tutor for their six-year-old.

Re confusing crepeys, I get muddled up between Monty and Magi...

MrsFilthPacket · 04/11/2016 19:49

I have had one drink and left the pub. Much surprise expressed. Was the right decision.

So sorry to hear about your friend Cocoa. I lost a friend last year and her husband wouldn't let any of her friends go to the funeral. All very bizarre.

IDismyname · 04/11/2016 19:52

Herbs - sorry about the job; it was probably the wrong job for you, but you just don't know it IYSWIM. I'm sure the Crepeys as a collective could come up with some blurb on 'Pig and Poultry'.

We were part of a pig syndicate, so I know a lot about:

How to feed 8 fully grown hungry pigs hurling themselves at you while you try not to fall into the electric fence

How to do a decent Roast Pork (see the connection there...?)

Not sure about chickens. Hate the flapping buggers.

bigTillyMint · 04/11/2016 19:56

Sorry about the job Herbs, but good news about the possible tutoring.

Glad to hear MrsFP is being sensible - is that a permanent name change?

Not so quiet here as DS and DH are watching their team play on Sky Sad
But I have Chocolate!

Blackduck · 04/11/2016 19:59

Sorry about job Herbs

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 04/11/2016 20:01

We have a full house here.... all children home and in one room!

The course sounds excellent, Herbs. Would the local schools pay you to do a session for parents? Or let you advertise there?

I have moved the sitting room around, to make it more 'hygge'.... dogs are a bit confused as they can't work out what sofa they're allowed on!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 04/11/2016 21:08

You can stick to the pigs Cocoa... we have Stropps (?and Beachy?) to be the resident chicken experts... Sorted Herbs.

OP posts:
BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 04/11/2016 21:13

I'd quite like pigs, but the family won't let me have anything we are going to eat.... we are chickeners for sure.

Collymollypuff · 04/11/2016 21:33

"We were part of a pig syndicate" - how I long to be able to type that. Grin

I did actually grow up opposite a pig farm. And my dad was a butcher.

CointreauVersial · 04/11/2016 21:39

Four pages in already....

I shed a little tear over the tale of CremCat's passing and the lovely photo....Flowers

Poo to job rejection, Herbs. I'm sure there are a plethora of part time job opportunities out there, but I would say tutoring would be right up your alley - it's super-flexible and the sort of thing that will run and run if you get some good recommendations. And give yourself a massive pat on the back for your course. But who knew copying was so £££? Shock

Cocoa - watch out for that Molly - she stalked me on my lunch break a few weeks back. Wink

Thankful things? Good idea! Today's would be:

DH took the day off, dismantled DD2's bed, swept/hoovered her room and cleared all the decorating stuff away.
Then he came and took me out for lunch.
Then this evening he gave me a box of my fave chocs. Just because.....

Awww.

Cremolafoam · 04/11/2016 22:06

Herbs, that's total poo about the job, but poisoned chalice blah blah etcetera. Flowers bet you were Too Good For Them.Tis true. Sorry too bout the financial sitch. Been there too Herbs and it's pants. Lalsy's advice was spot on. Tutoring makes good business sense and is sustainable enough to fill gaps too.

Cocoa, so sorry about your lovely friend.

Gosh it has taken me so long to write this post it probably irrelevant. Long long week.
I am grateful for:

  1. goats not pigs
  2. sweet potato chips for tea
  3. Toasty real log fire in the grate.
Collymollypuff · 04/11/2016 22:44

That sounds very hygge Crem. Smile

CV, I've booked the same place for my granny gang next month...for our Xmas meal...there will be even MORE of us. Grin
