Hope that's an OK unilateral decision!

Holey Moley. This is not good. Shock

Rosebag · 09/11/2016 07:58

I keep reading that people are "baffled" by the result. So mad dogs have never got into power before? What a terrible, terrible day for American.

Rosebag · 09/11/2016 07:58

America

motherinferior · 09/11/2016 08:03

I woke up at 4.30, resisted the urge to look at the news for 10 terrified minutes and then...

Yes, people are disaffected and they want a 'solution' and they didn't feel they have a credible alternative and THAT DOESN'T NEGATE THE FACT THEY ELECTED TRUMP.

bigTillyMint · 09/11/2016 08:09

I am sadly not baffled. It was like Brexit all over again - obvious that he was in with a very good chance for the last week or more.

Very interesting comparing BBC and ITV coverage early this morning. BBC horrified, disbelieving that Clinton could have not won, ITV had far more possible positives about Trump.

magimedi · 09/11/2016 08:11

I woke at 5 & dozed & really did not want to get up & see the news. I resisted until about 6.30 & am glad I did.

Lalsy · 09/11/2016 08:13

I am not sure they are comparable. David Owen supported Brexit. I disagreed with him but he made a rational case. How can so many women and 29% of hispanics vote for a man like Trump? I think the UK has lost by a country mile the competition for "Most mad and dangerous political decision of 2016"

Rosebag · 09/11/2016 08:34

Closer to home as MrsF said re the tram in Croydon....there are still people trapped in or under it and 40 people injured...Shock
What a morning.

I have just heard a British Muslim on LBC say he would have voted for Trump as he hates Clinton's foreign policy. Confused.

IDismyname · 09/11/2016 09:36

I'm on a news and FB blackout today, so missed the tram news.
How terrible... Sad

wordassociationfootball · 09/11/2016 12:00

'I think the UK has lost by a country mile the competition for "Most mad and dangerous political decision of 2016"' Most adroit, Lalsy. (Will use this as an example of use of 'country mile.' This and idioms like 'donkeys (donkies? Donkey's? Donkeys') years are becoming of interest to dd2

Addle - I use an app called 'flux' (or f:lux) on phone and pc. I installed after watching Wolf Hall lateish on my laptop meant I couldn't get to sleep. Wolf Hall? Candlelit, right? ah but it was trumped by the laptops blue light. Shit, I said the t word.

Lalsy · 09/11/2016 12:44

Excellent that a good idiom example has come out of today, WAF Smile. Just had dd on the phone in Trump tears Sad.

motherinferior · 09/11/2016 13:03

I interrupt today's gloom to say

(a) nice young man likes my novel (with comments o can)
(b) I have a press invite to the new Moomins exhibition at the south bank

As you were...

NUFC69 · 09/11/2016 13:25

That's good, MI.

When I heard the news in the wee small hours Hilary was winning, so it came to a great shock to me when Trump won. I am not a big fan of Hilary, but I can't believe that people voted for Trump.

Miserable weather, but no snow. In view of my impending op I have decided to start writing my Christmas cards, as I have to get everything done by mid December. DH managed to find some of last year's cards, so I will start with those....

Cremolafoam · 09/11/2016 13:50

Moomins!!! Heart!
Gosh tram crash is
Just dreadful.

Everyone here is very down. No cheer at all in the office. Customers stunned into silence. It puts things in proportion i suppose.

Must see what the politics student dd has to say.

wordassociationfootball · 09/11/2016 15:00

I haven't talked to anyone about it much. DD1 has been asleep all day after Brian-ing through the night, so she doesn't know yet.

motherinferior · 09/11/2016 15:03

I woke up DP at 4.40 crying about it.

Have also started another period, in sync with DD1, just as I had dared to hope I would never have one again. Doubtless when it gets under way it'll be one of those eviscerating-tsunami ones.

hattymattie · 09/11/2016 15:15

It is so frustrating being affected by political decisions that I cannot participate in - Brexit - I had no right to vote, even though it will impact me directly and my children's education. Trump affects us all. What a sad world we live in where such a low life can get elected. So much for solidarity between women!

Lalsy · 09/11/2016 15:39

I know, Hatty. I don't understand how any woman or any parent of daughters could vote for a man who has boasted that with power comes freedom to assault. A majority of women voted Clinton apparently.

dp is away and we have only exchanged very brief texts. I can't think of what to say to the dc (except finish your sodding personal statement of course, that line will come in handy today).

magimedi · 09/11/2016 15:42

I feel the human race has taken a massive backward step.

Am now dreading the French elections next year...............

Comforting sausage & fennel pasta tonight & some Wine to drown the sorrows.

motherinferior · 09/11/2016 15:49

I have been dashing round town and have to visit a sixth form with DD1. Which is a bit of an empty gesture as she wants to stay at her current school anyway....

hattymattie · 09/11/2016 16:41

MM - Marine of course has been among the first to congratulate Mr Trump.

Rosebag · 09/11/2016 16:51

We just have to keep shouting at the tops of our voices against racism, sexism, homophobia oppressions and hatred. That's all we can do. I take a small amount of comfort from the hope that the mad dog won't be able to get any of his evilness through congress....

A moment of S&B trivia...I am trusted up in old faithful, beheeled, moderately cleavaged, coiffed, made up and perfumed. Taxi is coming at half five. Hoi Poloi here I come... Smile

bigTillyMint · 09/11/2016 16:56

I think I know that sixth form, MI Wink

Bad day here, but got hospital visit tomorrow at least.

Collymollypuff · 09/11/2016 17:53

BTM, Thanks

Lalsy · 09/11/2016 17:59

Rose, I completely agree. I vow to be a PITA woman.

BTM, sorry to hear that - but glad you got onto this quickly.
