Thanks Rose.
Currently watching Strictly , eating beans on toast in my oldest leggings. Cat on the right, mug of tea on the left. Gorgeous Jo Malone bath arranged for later. AaaaaaahSmile

MI on your retun , pop into hospice chazza, rich pickings, I got a black v neck Katherine Hamnett jumper after my killer step class today.

Dd1 is at Beach Boy's for weekend.

Dd2 and day tripping cousins left loft window open and soaked a down duvet and mattress through with rain. I had a giganta rant of effing and Jeffing.

Crem welcome back to home turf.

addle · 16/10/2016 10:31

MI I'm just going to pick up a dress from tailor in tooting made of silk I bought in China nearly 30 years ago. if nice would you like me to pass on details? You could then have dresses made for you, dsis and dds from the sari material?

Crem - welcome home - give yourself some time off?

Walk and lunch yesterday very nice and cheerful; momentarily stymied by DS's horror at idea of relatively expensive food. needed talking down (or up) from ordering small starter to the steak and chips he actually wanted. and then the sun came out. lovely

BTM, Lalsy - look forward to seeing you later

motherinferior · 16/10/2016 11:26

What lovely colours MI. Adèle is a genius. You could all have gorgeous summer dresses run up, or even amazing curtains.

Am still resting, but will see dad later.
Work tomorrow though

Cremolafoam · 16/10/2016 13:19

Addle not Adele obviously. Hmm

magimedi · 16/10/2016 15:26

The saris are beautiful & Addl is a genius!

I was intrigued by the cook books & googled them!

Cook & See seems to be an absolute bible of Indian vegetarian cookery & is compared to Julia Child!!!

That's just one link and there are loads more.

Can I come to dinner, please? Grin

wordassociationfootball · 16/10/2016 16:08

Good work Magi Star Grin

bigTillyMint · 16/10/2016 16:19

Gorgeous colours, MI - Addle's suggestion is a great idea.

Thanks for all the Crepey support - much appreciated. DS is more upbeat today, here's hoping he will still be when it's school again tomorrow!

herbaceous · 16/10/2016 17:11

Crepeys are amazing. And such a part of my life these days that I don't know what I'd do without you all. Flowers

I need a lie down. I've got a hideous headache, not unrelated to wine consumption last night, and have just endured the world's LOUDEST eighth birthday party. It was a 'science' themed party, and the mum had provided giant balloons for the kids to 'entertain themselves' with before and after the entertainer. This inevitably meant full on fights and full-volume screaming. From all 20 children. For two hours. A torrential downpour prevented the escape I had been planning.

Now, lesson planning.

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/10/2016 17:12

In S & B news, I would like to report that the jeans I bought in New York -Not Your Daughter's Jeans (which usually cost around $140-170, but I got for $30-40 in the sale) are indeed the dog's bolleaux and the comfiest, most flattering jeans I've ever had. So it's a good job I bought three pairs. Grin

In non S & B news, I have syringed my ears and can hear again. It is so, so satisfying, and I have had to turn the radio down.

In cooking news, for those of you who like Indian veg food, can I recommend www.spiceupthecurry.com for excellent and easy to follow recipes.

In further cooking news, I have made my first batch of mincemeat, have put a stew in the slow cooker for tomorrow night (which guarantees that it will be scorchio tomorrow) roasted pork for today, and now need a nice lie down and a glass of wine.

Collymollypuff · 16/10/2016 17:31

What do you use to syringe your own ears, MrsS? I suspect it may not be universally approved of? I spend a fortune at a Clear Ear Clinic but would happily diy.

bigTillyMint · 16/10/2016 17:33

MrsSEnvy at the jeans. And the ear syringeing. Do you do others? Maybe I would be able to hear better too?

In good news, I had no hangover today after gin, cocktails and beers last night with our friendsSmile

Auriga · 16/10/2016 17:38

Good to hear that DS has picked up a little bit, BTM.

Took DD to the airport early & waved her off on performing arts trip to NY. Hardly saw her in the last week, she had rehearsals and/or parties every night and an open day in Birmingham on Sat. Eighteen today Shock

DH and I had a rehearsal and a (terrific) concert last night. New conductor has galvanised the choir & we amazed ourselves Grin. He's also bloody good fun. Suspect these two facts are related. Previous conductor is now singing with the basses and loving it. Win-win.

MrsS, you put me to shame with all this cookery. I have frittered away the day looking at photos and walking the dog. Feel an early night coming on. I made my sciatica much worse by driving the other day (only 8 miles each way Sad) & may need to book some time off work until things improve.

On the back of a photo envelope I found I'd written down an urgent question from DD, aged about six: 'can I show you something really cool that I can do with flappy socks?' Wish I could remember what it was.

bigTillyMint · 16/10/2016 17:42

Auriga, looking at photos and walking the dog sounds like a great day! Sorry your sciatica is bad though. Are there any car seat-back thingies that would help?

Auriga · 16/10/2016 17:51

Thanks, BTM, the only thing that helps is laying the seat as flat as possible, which precludes driving but means I can be a passenger. I can get to work by train most of the time, though it makes for long days. Standing and walking are okay, so that helps to make it manageable for now.

Did you have a walk in BP this afternoon? Thought about you.

hattymattie · 16/10/2016 17:57

Sorry to hear about the sciatica Auriga - your day sounds lovely. I've done nothing much either. We had a lovely warm day today so walked in the forest and dragged DS(Adrian Mole) out with us.

BTM - glad DS is a bit more upbeat today.

Mrs S you sound amazingly organised and your grub sounds delicious. I'm sure you're not supposed to syringe your own ears though.

wordassociationfootball · 16/10/2016 18:35

Flappy socks, Auriga Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/10/2016 18:43

Hatty - I started doing it in France (ear syringing) because my doctor told me that everyone in France DIY'd their ears and sinuses. You need the wax softening stuff - I use Otex, which has hydrogen peroxide in it, and makes a satisfying noise (sort of fizzing) when it hits the wax. You do this for 4-5 days and then you get a "poire" (I think it might be called a bulb syringe in English?), fill it with warm water, and with your head on its side and over a wash basin, squeeze the "poire" hard so that the water rushes in at speed, and out again. The first go usually just dislodges a few crumbs of wax, but the second or third brings out a most satisfying lump. Once this has come out, I usually do one more squirt, which may or may not bring out some more crumbs or a lump, and that's it done. The trick is to make sure the wax is really, really soft (you will know when it is "ripe" - stick your finger and a tissue into the ear - just inside, and some fairly runny wax will go onto it - this means you are good to go). I find it much more gentle than the electric thing the nurse uses, and find it does as good a job.

Sciatica is a bitch, Auriga, you have my sympathy.

I have decided that I am not a big fan of roast pork. I didn't eat pork until I was 22 and moved to 1980s Poland, where it was a case of "eat pork or starve" - you could occasionally get beef, but meat was still rationed then, and being a veggie really wasn't an option, particularly in the winter, when you could only get cabbage and potatoes.

CointreauVersial · 16/10/2016 18:52

Ouch, MrsS. Eardrops is one thing, syringeing....hmm....

Auriga, if it's any consolation my day has been even less productive than yours. I haven't even done any cooking; DH has taken it upon himself to rustle up dinner. Shock OK, it's only burgers and sweet potato chips, but DD1 has just wandered in to enquire whether she is in some sort of parallel universe, with DH in the kitchen and me on my backside on the sofa with a glass of wine. I am pleased to report I'm now up-to-date with The Apprentice and Gogglebox.

Actually, I did one useful thing - I diagnosed why the kitchen sink is leaking, and what I need to do to fix it. But couldn't actually fix it, as need plumber's putty. That is a task for another day. It looks straightforward enough on YouTube.

Looking forward to tomorrow - another day off (go me!) and we're off to meet DDad and DSM in Portsmouth to visit the Mary Rose museum. I've wanted to see the MR pretty much since the day they dragged it out of the Solent, but the right moment never presented itself (and the DCs were never interested). So when DDad announced they had booked tickets I shamelessly invited myself along.

hattymattie · 16/10/2016 18:59

GrinMrs S - quite a description. Now you mention it I have used the softening stuff on DD many years ago but havent come across the syringe.

We dont eat much pork - though I do like the occasional roast with crackling, apple sauce etc. I think I might have mentioned before that DS passed himself off as Jewish to avoid the nasty fat sausages in the school canteen and get a burger instead.

CointreauVersial · 16/10/2016 19:03

Actually, MrsS, I have to ask....the water runs in, obviously, but how does it come out again when the exit is blocked by a small rubber tube? I always wondered the same thing about enemas Do you just "fill" your ears, turn the other way, and tip them out again? Don't your eardrums go pop?

Lalsy · 16/10/2016 19:13

Good Lord, MrsS, you live and learn.

CV, I went to the MR before they reclosed it (last year?) for the final conservation stages. So, so good. Loads of fascinating details and very sensitively done. Want to go back now and see all the other stuff as well.

Leisurely day here after burst of exercise this morning left me feeling pooped, managed to fit in mini snooze as ds is away so the sofa was free. Auriga, he will be in NY later in the week!!

BTM, glad ds but more chirpy today. Hope he can hold his own this week.

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/10/2016 19:46

CV - the syringe doesn't block the ear - it is a bulb, with a long, tapered pointy thing. You stick the pointy thing in your ear - not too far, but so that it is just in the ear canal, and you lean your ear that you are syringing over the sink, so that the water and wax fall out into the sink. So you squirt up into your ear and the water comes out immediately, bringing the wax with it. You shouldn't pop your eardrum, as you don't stick the syringe in that far, and the pressure isn't great from the bulb syringe. There may be a problem if the wax isn't soft enough, and you get some water trapped behind the hard wax, which is why it's essential to soften it properly.
