Would you wear last years clothes?

Sorting out my wardrobe I have so many (about 20) pieces of clothes that I bought last autumn/winter and never got round to wearing.
Luckily I tried them on and still love them but my friend said she wouldn't be seen dead in last years clothes ...
Opinions ?
Surely if the things are still in good condition what's the problem?
It's things that never go out of fashion (my wardrobe is basic central)
I'm not planning on throwing hundreds of pounds of clothes away

I am still wearing a few clothes that are 20 or 30 years old; many that are at least 10; your friend is crazy.

ChinUpChestOut · 23/08/2016 20:49

Lucky you having 20 items of clothing that you've still not worn!! That's a whole new wardrobe that will take you through to the January sales!

I couldn't imagine a scenario where I threw out last year's clothes. I choose them (for the most part) far too carefully to want to get rid of them so soon. Your friend needs help. No one, unless maybe they're Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian, throws away clothes from 12 months ago.

ShatnersBassoon · 23/08/2016 20:49

Yes, some of mine are from last century. That's quite impressive, thinking about it Grin

SoftSheen · 23/08/2016 20:49

Of course!

You really have 20 items of clothing that you bought last season but didn't wear? That is more than I buy in a whole year!

user1471888857 · 23/08/2016 20:49

She's about a size 8/10 I think

Never heard of anyone dumping clothes they like and brand new

She sounds up her arse

rollonthesummer · 23/08/2016 20:50

OMG! What does your friend do as a job to be able to afford a whole new wardrobe every season?

user1471888857 · 23/08/2016 20:50

I bought most of them in the sales after Christmas and before the summer stuff got brought in.

I have clothes from the last millennia...

...millennium?

Whatever. Old.

user1471888857 · 23/08/2016 20:51

Same here ..my wardrobe is white/cream/beige/grey/navy and black
Not really a colour person

Your friend is wasteful and wrong.

EmpressTomatoKetchup · 23/08/2016 20:52

Ha hahah ha. Your mate ain't cool. She's a sucker who's bought into the idea that you must replace your entire wardrobe twice a year.

lasttimeround · 23/08/2016 20:52

Oh no you must take them all to the charity shop immediately - so I can buy them Grin

HuckleberryGin · 23/08/2016 20:52

I have clothes that I've had longer than I've known Dh :)

user1471888857 · 23/08/2016 20:53

The thing is the same things come in the shop every year without fail.
Tartan scarfs will be back ..polo necks..a line skirts, coated jeans..leopard print.

Christ, I thought I was shallow! I mean, I am, but even I will only part with clothing when it rots off my back. Or when DD is home and she borrows my stuff, never to be seen again.

madrose · 23/08/2016 20:54

Vintage is in. Today I wore a denim skirt that was 20 years old. Similar style to skirts in style today!

29redshoes · 23/08/2016 20:55

Blimey she must have money to burn.

I think the oldest item in my wardrobe is 10 years old. And I do take an active interest in clothes, it's not just that I don't care what I'm wearing.

notanotherusername123 · 23/08/2016 20:56

No I am going to admit that nothing in my wardrobe is over 6 months old. And I rarely own anything for over a year.
However, that's because I have a minimalist, basic wardrobe. You have 20 items you've never worn? I don't even OWN 20 items of clothing full stop! Everything is worn at least once or twice a week which means items get worn and develop holes in so then get thrown away and replaced. I would never throw away decent clothes just because they are last years though, that's so wasteful. Fine if you don't like them anymore or they don't fit anymore etc. But if you like them, and fit them then wear them and enjoy until they fall apart

Madbengalmum · 23/08/2016 20:57

Is this thread for real?

midcenturymodern · 23/08/2016 20:57

I'd rather chew on broken glass than have to replace everything. All that trooping around shops picking out little outfits and having to try them on and decide if I look nice or not. I'll stick to replacing things when the holes become pornographic. I don't mind buying socks every few months but you can take things too far.

KatharinaRosalie · 23/08/2016 20:59

So your friend goes out twice per year and buys things like a new black t-shirt, as her current perfectly wearable black basic t-shirt is from last season? Yes, that makes sense..

FatimaLovesBread · 23/08/2016 21:01

Oh notanother that sounds interesting? What do you have in your capsule wardrobe?
I suppose I have a semi capsule wardrobe as not much fits post baby

user1471888857 · 23/08/2016 21:02

She literally shops every week.
Wears things once or twice then gets bored and buys more things.

Many of my clothes are 20 years old...and I get complimented on them!
