I do wish my M&D would 'gift' us some money now, partly because I need it, and partly as I'm sure they'd rather we had it than it all got pissed up the wall in care fees. I presume once one gets Power of Attorney, one can't just then empty the bank account...

herbaceous · 28/07/2016 20:14

I have a holiday S&B question. For yes - it looks like we're going! MiL was looking moderately perky when DP visited her today, so we are free to go.

Bras in the heat. Obvs need a bra, with my knockers, but they're so damned sweaty, especially in the forecast 35deg heat of Italy. Has anyone found a lightweight bra that still manages to keep the old bangers away from the waist?

Oh, and DP has been offered a job. He's not sure it 'stretches' him enough, but concedes that it will be 'very nice'. I maintain that a job being 'very nice' is just what is called for.

hattymattie · 28/07/2016 20:27

Yay congrats to DP Herbs amd good news about the holiday. Relax and enjoySmileWine

addle · 28/07/2016 21:07

Congrats to DP Herbs! and good stuff about holiday. No idea about bras as barely have knockers

MI - my dad really wanted to give us all money after my dm died and we got funny about it. so wish I'ld taken it and gone on stonking holiday (preferably solo obvs)

Finished work until 15th. Setting off for Girona on Monday, which I'm sure will be lovely even with crutches etc (thank you Crem and DQ). Am going to start in London by hitting the gin

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/07/2016 21:21

Herbs - can you find a bra with a high cotton content? Or how about those stretchy things that are alleged to provide good support? Robert Dyas sell them , bizarrely. (Excellent news about your DP's job, by the way.)

Please can someone find me a decent haircut? It has been cut to a neck length bob and all one length, so it just sticks out madly unless I straighten it or blow dry it properly. I hate it.

My mother has never, ever given me/us any money at all. She would never offer and I would never ask. She used to keep saying that she was going to give me £50K or pay off my mortgage, but I knew it would never happen, so I just used to grunt non-committally. DH's Dad, on the other hand, keeps offering us money "if we need it for anything", as he can't take it with him.

Blackduck · 28/07/2016 21:59

My parents and Dps gift regular 1k at a time, to make sure we aren't screwed by the inheritance tax. We don't ask, but the 1k cheque at Christmas is most welcome.
Herbs good on dp re job.

I have the world and his wife telling me I need to take time off - they may have a point.

Blackduck · 28/07/2016 21:59

MrsS your mum is a cow

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/07/2016 22:10

We know that, BD. Smile I wouldn't be remotely surprised if she left all of her money to my cousin Z, whom she describes as "the daughter she never had." (Z has inherited the best part of £1 million from her parents.)

CointreauVersial · 28/07/2016 22:21

Rats, just lost a long post....ah, probably boring anyway.

Funeral went well, wonderful eulogies from DM and AuntyS's eldest. I caught up with cousins, one of whom I haven't spoken to in a good 30 years, mainly due to feuding and general nonsense from the generation above. We chatted for hours, and I can't believe how lovely she is and how we've not bothered to get in touch with each other all this time.

Cremolafoam · 28/07/2016 22:22

Oh Herbs good news. On both job and jaunt.
I I do wear the non wired miracle things as described by Mrs S, and they are comfortable, and supportive enough, but man made fibre is quite sweaty. Have you tried a cotton sports bra? My fave boulder holder by far.Wink also not uncivilised with vest tops etc, giving one an athletic aura.Grin

herbaceous · 28/07/2016 22:45

I am contemplating uniqlo's 'airism' sporty bra. Made of some miracle material that makes one feel cool. Has a rather sporty 'racer' back to lend that sportif aura. It will only be sported when wandering vaguely into nearby village for provisions, or to sit languidly in a cafe. The rest of the time I guess will be bikini or just a pair of pants.

Blackduck · 28/07/2016 22:46

Blimey MrsS why do you bother? I'd declare myself an orphan....

Rosebag · 28/07/2016 23:05

Lovely mini MU with GGG, herbs and mini herbs. Stylish, trendy restaurant and I too was impressed by GGG's clout with the staff! Got back to find some dick had done a hit and run on my car, leaving me with some significant body work to get done. Arsehole. Angry

herbs figleaves has a search function that lets you search for cotton bras and a whole load came up when I tried it. Don't recommend Doreen though... Grin were not ready for the Doreen just yet...Glad there is less uncertainly about the trip.

Hello to DQ

addle wish you a lovely holiday.

Have had messages with DS2 who has just boarded the overnight coach to
Berlin. Hope they get some sleep.

motherinferior · 28/07/2016 23:29

Herbs, high cotton content deffo I personally dispense with pants and feel the benefit.

bigTillyMint · 29/07/2016 08:02

Herbs, if you have activated POA then it is probably too late - you are supposed to keep accounts of what you spend on to prove you haven't been defrauding. DM used to give the DC (and us) £200 for each birthday/Christmas. The solicitor looked at me as if I was lying through my teeth and said that even £50 would be looked on unfavourably if I transferred it for her from her bank account Sad

MrsS, I agree with BD.

BD, if you feel like you need to take time off, then do it. Look after yourself.

Had a lovely catch-up with a friend last night, now need to think about packing and holiday arrangements as we go in 2 days!

Lalsy · 29/07/2016 08:40

MI, do something lovely with it. Makes tax sense and he wants you to have it.

I didn't find the Uniqlo ones worked for the large of boob, Herbs. Was in 30 deg last week and wore linen shorts and vests with normal bra, was OK. Ridiculously over-excited that Robert Dyas sells bras......Brilliant news re job and so glad you can all get away.

CV, that sounds lovely.

herbaceous · 29/07/2016 09:22

Disappointing re Uniqlo bras. I do have some thin-ish bras, but they are also lacy and lumpy. And the wires dig into me something terrible.

I've forgotten where you're going on holiday BTM. Is this the Californ-I-A jaunt?

This is where we're going. And yes, the pool is all our own. The tables in the pic were there for a party...

wordassociationfootball · 29/07/2016 10:08

I'm feeling gloomy on account of looking up the Welsh weather forecast. Looks like 18 degrees is the highest it will get to. While herbs is packing air-con bras, I'm thinking about taking a heat tech.

DD2 has just walked into office in new uniform with her holiday hair: pillar box red ends, that we will chop off come Sept. She looks a right handful!!!
She is complaining about the new shirts I bought being scratchy. MI, do you have any shirts in your bequeathal, perchance?

DD1 is yet to surface but from what I gleaned by text, as I was out last night, she had an amazing day with the fella. Did I mention they met because of Pokemon Go? He and his friends saw them on the seafront and came to tell them about a water pokemon or somesuch. I am so pleased for her that her first experience of boys is so positive. It took me longer to find someone who I fancied who was kind, clever and funny. I think she knows this is unusual.

Packing and various local dashes now. Afternoon tea with adored group of friends, one of whom is over from the US.

Mrs S - CV could you link to bras? I want to give up wires and discomfort and crank up and lightly pad the little I have.

bigTillyMint · 29/07/2016 10:28

Herbs, that looks lovely. Especially the pool!
We are off to Vietnam (it's CV that's going to Cali, but I am very much hoping to go next year) - I am currently charging my Kindle!

WAF, how lovely for your DD1 - is she going into Y11 next year like DS?

And re uniform, if anyone has a DD who could use M&S opaque black tights - age 13-14 I think, I have discovered a stash of a million brand-new unopened pairs which my DD is most unlikely to use now (although she could probably still fit into them!)

Cremolafoam · 29/07/2016 10:42

Herbs wowsers! The villa looks fantastic in a confiscated from a Mafia don kind of wayluxurious and huge!!GrinGrinWink
You will have an amazing time , and if you get off a sun lounger I'll be surprised. Heaven.Star

Rose, oh bother about the car. Infuriating. I hope it can be fixed without much expense. Angry Flowers

Sounds like the majority of us are off into the wide blue yonder next week, myself included. I am hoping for a bit of global reportage.Grin

herbaceous · 29/07/2016 10:56

Mafia don! HAha! Exactamundo Crem.

And sorry BTM. Of course it's Vietnam. I'm a big old div.

All of us in the far flung should post up pics on here...

bigTillyMint · 29/07/2016 11:21

Herbs, don't feel bad - I can't keep up with all the different holiday destinations either!

And yes, yes to holiday pics on here/fb - I love seeing where you are/what you're doing

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 29/07/2016 11:28

Bummer about the car, Rose. That's so annoying and hope it's easily fixable. Must put a date in the diary for our mini MU here?

Well done Mr Herbs on your job. Nice job, not too taxing, sounds great.
