I was thinking about this the other night, about the trends in threads over the years.

When I first joined I remember learning about sock buns. I had a break for a long while, then it was all about skincare, Caroline Hirons, exfoliating toners, but that has tailed off recently. Now it seems to be about haircuts, particularly whether people should have a pixie cut, lots asking how to dress their body shape.

HOC and CMB thread still occasionally appear, as do bra interventions, but less than they used to.

Hoping this all makes sense, am slightly hungover 😀

What other thread trends do you remember?

Oh I love Bonsoir! She is so funny. And there was one memorable time on a thread where she couldn't elaborate as she was too busy sourcing sea urchins for supper.

As I was about to feed my children pasta pesto - well, I just liked to imagine I was her swishing round Paris buying delicious sea food for my supper.

I'm currently packing for my first hot holiday in a loooong time - am trying to do a WIT approach to packing but fear I am going to look rather more Judith Chalmers at the height of 'Wish you were here'.

polyhymnia · 12/07/2016 19:34

Oh well, probably didn't read her posts carefully enough and missed the humour.

Tanaqui · 12/07/2016 19:34

I thought bonsoir was very funny! And also liked all the Paris stuff.
Love all the how to look like a Frenchwoman/ expensive/ uptodate type threads.

FlamingoFling · 12/07/2016 19:42

Capsule packing totally overrated. I shove as much as I can in the biggest suitcase available cos a) I like choice and b) there's no way I'm going to be using expensive shampoo to wash stuff in the sink Grin

Trills · 12/07/2016 21:03

Capsule packing would just have me panicking that I might spill something on the top that I'm supposed to wear three ways.

SayAGreatBigThankyou · 12/07/2016 21:15

Aw I love this thread (says she, sitting in Footner).
I love my Zatchels bag Blush, but the BBH and OCM were soon relegated.

AmberNectarine · 12/07/2016 21:18

Interesting, isn't it? Because I love my BBH.

Whistles tube skirt I didn't get on with. See also: anything from Hush.

TwentyOneGuns · 12/07/2016 21:19

What's the thread about LeQ? I was always fascinated by her - she revealed so much about her life on forums that I couldn't believe she was real or didn't have an ulterior motive.

I've picked up so much from this board, it's the one I post on most without a doubt (although I don't post anywhere loads). I've found out about some great products and brands, jumped on several bandwagons and feel much more comfortable with myself thanks in large part to posts on here :)

ElaeudanlaTeiteia · 12/07/2016 21:25

I love this board too, it's sort of my happy place on MN (I namechange a lot, been here for years) where I come when AIBU and chat are too fighty and stressful Grin

I adored the BBH when I got it. It was like actual magic and gave me gleaming loose waves such as had never graced my head before. Can't use it any more though since hypothyroidism wrecked my hair Sad. Just a thin, frizzy mess now that I have to cosset with coconut oil and keep tied back in a loose plait if I want to look halfway decent

Polkadot1974 · 12/07/2016 21:30

Loving this and the thread where the link wouldn't work
I do miss my boot cuts a bit though

MuchasSmoochas · 12/07/2016 21:45

My Whistles tube skirt has never been worn! Plus I have a mountain of must have beauty products collecting dust.

I quite respect people who are brutal in their opinion, not about body size or stuff like that, but it's refreshing when people say yuck to a dress.

There's a few S&Bers who make me chuckle.

FrustratedFrugal · 13/07/2016 08:01

I really miss Bonsoir. If you are still around, could you please share your recipe for sea urchins Wink

My favorite MN S&B poster of all time was a frequent namechanger whose nickname usually included the word Vin in some permutation or other. She left and lots of her posts were deleted - no wonder because her life was a soap opera. I also miss LTEC.

I like it when MrsLettuce advises of dresses, and links to them all.

I have been a sheep this week and bought the Emma Hardie cleanser Blush

winefairyagain · 13/07/2016 18:47

S&B was always what I thought was my safe haven when other threads kicked off.

In reality it was very costly (sheep) although I must admit some of my best purchases ever have come from S&B links. Donna Ida was a revelation for me. Totally changed my preconceptions about what I thought I couldn't wear.

PoppyAmex · 13/07/2016 20:13

Every single Autumn I search for the inevitable "waterproof, warm, stylish coat that covers bottom" and am never disappointed.

It's one of my favourite discussions!

PS: The answer is Canada Goose or Didriksons

CodewordRochambeau · 13/07/2016 20:38

I love a good bra intervention thread.

There was a poster a few years ago called puddles1234. She had a tendency to breeze into threads where the OP had asked for practical handbag / change bag recommendations, and declare that she found her Birkins delightfully practical for nappies and formula. When the poor OP then spluttered that she was only looking to spend up to £100, she would innocently point out that no budget had been specified. I think / hope that she was a satirical account.

MalmseyWhine · 14/07/2016 08:40

A few years ago there were 3 or 4 separate threads asking where to buy some fuck ugly skirt that was worn in an advert. I refuse to believe they were genuine enquiries but just the deluded designer trying to drum up trade.

ICJump · 14/07/2016 22:43

I'm surprised the1.99 h&m dress hasn't been mentioned yet. Or toe cleavage.

ItGoesWithoutSaying · 15/07/2016 10:57

I think the number of threads about how you style your pubic hair - or lack of it - seem to have gone down. At one stage they cropped up every few weeks and led to alternative accusations of slovenliness vs being a victim of the patriarchy.
