I was thinking about this the other night, about the trends in threads over the years.

When I first joined I remember learning about sock buns. I had a break for a long while, then it was all about skincare, Caroline Hirons, exfoliating toners, but that has tailed off recently. Now it seems to be about haircuts, particularly whether people should have a pixie cut, lots asking how to dress their body shape.

HOC and CMB thread still occasionally appear, as do bra interventions, but less than they used to.

Hoping this all makes sense, am slightly hungover 😀

What other thread trends do you remember?

I agree with pp about Kim Sear's dress yesterday. In fact she had worn unflattering stuff all week. Lots of white lace. White not her colour. Mind you I still haven't got over Judy wearing cream outfit to the wedding. Hoping I have both bitching about celebs and a nod to HOC with this post. Grin

I've just googled her Wimbledon dress. Not her best effort.

She normally has that East Coast, Ralph Lauren, preppy chic thing going on.That yellow frock is a bit mother of the bride.

MuchasSmoochas · 11/07/2016 14:27

Yellow frock not good.

Over the years.. We've had the going out skinny jeans, heels and nice top v the 50's kookie Viv of H. The how to look French/effortlessly stylish; curly girls; best mascara: mumsy fleeces and the rest. Enjoyed them all except when non S&Bers come on and say throw off your chains and bin the makeup, you patriarchal slaves. Along with the wear anything crew. Yes you can wear anything but it depends what look you're going for.
Love a weight, height and size thread.

CrystalMcPistol · 11/07/2016 14:36

I love a 'how old do you think I am' thread.

MN is at it's 'Ha! I'll put you in your place' best/worst on those threads!

ephemeralfairy · 11/07/2016 14:46

I remember a brilliant thread where someone had a 'friend' who was going to buy her two Chanel bags...it descended into 600+ post worth of chaos, with her being called a prostitute and her insinuating that she was a minor celebrity. Marvellous scenes.

FankEweVeryMuch · 11/07/2016 14:54

I agree, the Chanel bag thread was brill.

Floisme · 11/07/2016 14:59

madmomma I don't wear it with anything startling I'm afraid, just an oversized knit - as has already been mocked on this thread Grin flat ankle boots in winter, plimsolls and footless tights in spring/summer (bare legs if it ever hits 20 degrees).

I'd never say it's right for everyone and if I'm honest, it's become a bit of a uniform and probably high time I changed it. But it suits a) my job where I have to tread a line between smart and dressed down. And b) and more importantly, my shape, which, in the right underwear is kind of petite-hourglass. It makes my old, saggy arse look phenomonal.

polyhymnia · 11/07/2016 15:10

Yes, some of the stealth boast threads have been quite entertaining!

MrsCampbellBlack · 11/07/2016 15:45

I miss Bonsoir on here.

Floisme · 11/07/2016 15:50

Oh and sneering at leggings threads - from posters in skinnies and a stripy top. Love 'em.

peachlife · 11/07/2016 16:12

I have missed so much!. Should had joined Mumsnet years ago, regardlesss of DC arrival!.

Anyone do a linky to Chanel bag thread? - sounds like thread gold.

I have short hair but even after reading it 10 mins ago remain baffled by the sock bun concept Confused. Someone needs to do a pic - how can it not look like you have a sock in your hair?!.

polyhymnia · 11/07/2016 16:38

Yes, Amber, I remember lots of threads raving about Peony and Moore bags. I even bought one - but could hardly ever bear to use it. And ordered another, which went straight back. They have indeed gone under now.
Another name which regularly comes round still and is polarising to put it politely is Cath Kidston.

JackandDiane · 11/07/2016 16:53

I hate leggings. Just helping you to get fat IMO

ggirl · 11/07/2016 17:07

are people still recommending those hideous betty boo 50's dresses?

CrystalMcPistol · 11/07/2016 17:09

Oh I do hate 1950s style dresses. They're one of my least favourite things.

I'd rather wear a wolf fleece.

ggirl · 11/07/2016 17:10

ha me too

very rarely do i see someone in one but when i do i wonder if theyr'e a mnetter

JohnCheese · 11/07/2016 17:28

God yes, hate those 50s dresses. Disproportionate amount of links for them on here.

CrystalMcPistol · 11/07/2016 17:30

I don't mind the plain ones quite so much, but the ones with really bold floral patterns, no.

polyhymnia · 11/07/2016 17:31

Yes, another here who really can't see why they are so wonderful. Yet they keep popping up.

JackandDiane · 11/07/2016 17:37

zips mouth about the women who wear them

CrystalMcPistol · 11/07/2016 17:39

They're just too much like fancy dress.

FankEweVeryMuch · 11/07/2016 17:41

Ha, I'm wearing a 50s dress this weekend....... as part of themed fancy dress!

MadSprocker · 11/07/2016 17:56

Hi, I didn't start this thread to be a style bashing thread, just about reminiscing about past s&b Wink

Collymollypuff · 11/07/2016 17:57

I bought baby bottom butter and the dog ate it. Really, he did. Confused

MrsCampbellBlack · 11/07/2016 18:01

You start the thread but where it goes nobody knows Wink
