How 'edgy' a pixie cut can I get away with?

Honest opinions, please, suitable for RL

I am 50.
Have mid-brown (hennaed) hair.
Some wave/frizz
I live and work in semi-rural suburbia.

I have finally come off the fence made an appointment to have my mid-back length hair cut to a pixie - the change in length does not particularly phase me, I've done it several times in my lifetime. It's only hair

Here's my question: I quite fancy something really very short sides and back (maybe a gentle bit of undercut?) with a longer top. Am quite happy to be a bit edgy but not ludicrously so. I wear no make-up day to day, I have no facial piercings and no tattoos and work in a job in which I really don't want to scare the horses. Or the neighbours.
So all the many lovely mohican pixies I have wasted hours and hours on looked at online are really not an option.

So, am I having some kind of hair related mid-life crisis? Am I nuts?
Should i just embrace my inner Deirdre and settle for Middle-Aged Hair??

Apples - maybe people who get a pixie cut like it, or it suits their face shape.

OP I like them both but I'd ask your hairdresser about which one would work best for you in terms of face shape and how much time you have for styling etc

Apples - I'm not trying to achieve anything with my haircut other than to please myself. What do you try to achieve with yours?

I am trying to achieve shorter hair
Cut down on drying time
Have a change - bored of long hair at the mo'.
In the past I have been bored of short hair, and guess what? I grew it again!

Ginnifer looks great but a bit too short for me, I think.
I quite fancy it really short at the side/back and longer on top.

I think I remember having that kind of hair cut in the mid 80s

I love love love the first one, but agree that your hairdresser is best-placed to help you choose which will work best for you.

I think your first one is much better, and IMO if you're a bit older it's better to err on the edgier side than otherwise (I'm 46, so same age bracket as you).

Short hair does take effort in so much as you need to set aside the time for haircuts (it can go from 'Mmm okay' to 'pants' in a couple of days.

You can try all sorts of product to get the look you want on the day but with wavy hair, you need to make sure you don't get the 'Mushroom' head where it all pouffs out or the 'Mad Professor Look' where your longer combover bit goes wild.

I was sitting in the car one day, there was a women walking along with the back of her hair tucked into her coat and the growing out sides flapping like him out of A Flock of Seagulls ( Pacific don't say you don't remember AFOS ) That's the look I want to avoid .......

I like the second one best, dont like the long bits on the first one.

I want wavy, tousled hair with lots of structure so know I will have to throw a fair bit of product at it. And yes, more hairdresser's appointments - which is another bonus

The look I am trying to avoid is the "Mad Mushroom Dragged Through A Hedge Backwards' one - it's a risk I am prepared to take.

I like the long bits, also a teeny bit long at the back.

At heart I am an ageing rock chick, in RL I have never had a particular 'look'. Just, you know, clothes. And hair

The first one you linked to looks like classic 'middle aged hair' to me. Definitely not edgy. The second is better.

Mine is quite like buttface's pic, but not such a nice colour and a bit choppier

I really really liked the style of the girl in The Night Manager and took pics of her last time I went, but the stylist got a little scissor happy and i ended up a bit more on the Howard Wolowitz side of things, but after a month it has started to behave itself and look more like her than him. thanks the lord

I'm very nearly fifty, and I took this picture in to describe the haircut I wanted to the hairdressers. I too have hennaed hair, and have had lots of compliments with this, and I feel very confident. Which is what I wanted to achieve ..
