I hope I have remembered the chosen title correctly - I have used Crem's title (think it was Crem's) as the old thread is full.

Herbs - will be fab to have lots of time en famille in the summer but eek re new job on horizon.

Inspired by CV and Rose I have put 10 things on Ebay. They range from size 10 to 16. WTF.

"Hooking up" with an old friend, MrsS?? Not in the biblical sense, I hope? Shock

Eurgh, Strops - sounds nasty. Hope Brian is dispensed with soon. And tell your DD that the supermarket is at her disposal if she's not happy with DH's offerings.

Auriga - what a tough time you are having. Flowers Hope you find time for some serious R&R - you need it. And how self-absorbed your friend is! I'm amazed you had the emotional energy to engage with him at all.

Rose - sounds like you are having a wonderful time. This is your holiday flat, yes? Jacuzzi, beach and pools??! Envy

NU - yayy! for empty houses! Ours is empty too - we went for lunch with DM and DSD - DB and family were also there - and have left the DDs behind with their cousins for a couple of days. It was just about warm enough to sit outside for lunch, and no-one fell out with anyone (always a risk when DB gets on his soapbox and DSD has a few drinks) - although they were just gearing up for a heated Brexit debate when DH spotted the most gorgeous little field mouse feasting on the bird table which proved to be an excellent and very cute distraction.

No plans for tomorrow, beyond nagging DS to revise, although I'm getting slightly twitchy about several approaching birthdays (DH, DD1, DDad), for which I have done very little purchasing or preparation. Are the shops open?

Cremo · 29/05/2016 20:48

Auriga, how harrowing, to have to go through another funeral, as well as suffer the slings and arrows of airport delays. I do hope dhs friend clears off and leaves you all in peace. I wish quiet consoling summer days, with nice walks followed by many cushions. Take care.
MI, how are you doing? It can't be easy waiting for the funeral for such a long time. Thinking of you and wishing you well.

Herbs, so glad it went well with the cousins. Sorry to hear DM and df were not up to coming .
I have completely destroyed my nails today, planting in the garden. Will have to consider fakery I think.
We lit the barbecue this evening and grilled some lamb chops and some falafel for Dh. It was gorgeous, warm, sunny, and the first day of summer for us. Sigh!

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/05/2016 20:50

CV, FFS, no. "Hook up with" in the dictionary sense of the word - ie meet up with. Several old friends from Brussels days, in fact. One is meeting me at the airport, which I am quite excited about. I never get met at the airport, and it's always quite disappointing, looking hopefully around and then trudging off to the taxi rank/tube/bus stop.

Auriga, do take care of yourself, two funerals in such a short space of time is incredibly stressful and draining. And self- absorbed friend can go and boil his head.

Have made Nigerian food tonight, inspired by another thread on here.

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2016 21:47

Ah yes, I think I added my twopennoth to that one, MrsS! And yes to being met at the airport - when DH's best mate from uni met us unexpectedly in Christchurch last summer, I felt choked - so, so lovely to see himSmile

CV TF for the field mouse - I fear we will need a whole family of them tomorrow chez les out-lawsHmm

Auriga · 29/05/2016 23:09

MrsS I so know what you mean about being met at the airport. I absolutely fell on DH's neck last night, even though I'd only been away just over 24 hours, I was so grateful to be picked up.

Thanks for kind wishesSmilewalks and cushions sound good. And friend boiling his head.

It's been a quiet day with roast chicken and Wallander. DD was disappointed that there's no silliness in it. We're more of a Death in Paradise sort of family.

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/05/2016 23:42

I have a bitch of a journey next Saturday on my way back, which includes 4 hours at Frankfurt airport, and not getting back into Heathrow until late, so will see if DH might like to collect me then...?

NUFC69 · 30/05/2016 07:42

Auriga, what a time you are having. Much strength to continue coping with it all.

Stropps, are you any better today?

Am very envious of talk of sitting outside: yesterday's gardening was done with me wearing a Christmas jumper over a t shirt. Actually it wasn't proper gardening, I was removing weeds and moss from between the cracks on the patio and paths.

I am assuming the shops will be open, CV, as I too need a birthday present for DS's DGD. Her birthday is on Friday so it needs buying and posting by lunchtime tomorrow.

herbaceous · 30/05/2016 10:37

Poor Stropps. Brian is never a welcome guest on a bank holiday.

I have never been met at an airport. Well, not since I came back from 18 months in Australia when I was 23. Then my parents did come, it's true. If your DH comes to pick you up, Mrs S, I will eat all my hats. Or indeed cardigans, of which I have a glut.

Today's excitement is going to Ikea to buy a wardrobe. DP and I currently share an 1m-wide wardrobe, which squashes all my clothes together. We're looking at a 2m-wide number with double-height rails and other such luxury.

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/05/2016 11:16

I have the giddiness of Decathlon today at Canary Wharf, to equip DD1 for The World's Most Expensive School Trip. I don't know why I don't just pay a percentage of my salary to Decathlon. It would seem easier.

Cremo · 30/05/2016 11:49

Nu , that is proper gardening!! I include anything that occurs outside as gardening, even snipping dead heads from pansies. Grin
Another day of 'housework outdoors' for me. Tis bizarrely tropical here. It doesn't bode well Crepeys. usually this means July and August will be grey and gloomy with a soupçon of hail.
BBQ =1
Beers in garden = 4
Too hot in bed=1
Grin

Mrs S I find Decathlon on a BH surely some kind of purgatory ? What did you do to deserve this?

Auriga , yes Wallander very gloomy at this point in his life. Won't get much better next week I can assure you, having read all the W books.
Love DIP as it's filmed in Guadeloupe , where I was once on my hols.Smile

motherinferior · 30/05/2016 12:00

Mr Inferior met me last time I was at an airport. And it was late at night. I must be nicer to him. Also I suspect nobody else would ever fancy me.

I have conceded that I am flobbing over the side of some of my bras and have purchased a nice Fantasie number on sale at Figleaves. It is Stout but Attractive and Supportive, which is the best many of us can hope for.

I have slung 500 words at the page and must go and read about the East India Company's opium trade. And then I might have a BH beer.

NUFC69 · 30/05/2016 12:11

All the talk about picking up at airports reminds me that I would often collect DH from his business trips. On one of his trips to Paris I fell down three stairs and fractured my right ankle and my left big toe: NDN took me to A&E where I was duly plastered, given a zimmer and sent home. It seemed pointless to worry DH so I didn't bother to tell him until he rang from CDG to tell me his flight was on time. I told him I couldn't collect him; rotten devil assumed I had done something to the car!

How on earth do you manage with that wardrobe, Herbs? Mine alone is about three (3, iii) metres long. Which reminds me again, DS and DDiL have emptied the wardrobe in the guest room of all its hangers. Words will be spoken.

I have never been to Decathlon, but DDiL had got some bike stuff there, so we mean to have a look - but not on a BH.

If anyone has the Test Match on from Durham, that's what our weather is currently like, on the verge of rain.

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/05/2016 12:52

Well I have asked Mr S if he will collect me next weekend and he has said he will "think about it".

motherinferior · 30/05/2016 13:50

NU, that's what DP would assume too!

MrsS, do tell him plenty of other people with full-time jobs collect their partners from airports.

Lalsy · 30/05/2016 14:07

I claim BH bingo prize - have been to Asda and Home base. Love decathlon though.

bigTillyMint · 30/05/2016 14:15

Im not sure DH would collect me. It's a bit of a faff getting to Heathrow/Gatwick, but I'd probably be OK if it was Stanstead.

On the way to the outlaws. DH and DS are discussing whether grandad wI'll want to go to the pub to watch the football. What effing football?Angry

NUFC69 · 30/05/2016 14:31

Tut, tut, BTM. Don't you know it is the League 2 Play off Final, between AFC Wimbledon and Plymouth Argyle? I think I would get on well with your Dzh and DS. Grin KO is 3 o'clock.

herbaceous · 30/05/2016 14:40

I must say, I'm always amazed when people expect to be collected from a London airport. If it's a faff getting home, it's just as much faff for the person collecting. But then I guess I'm lucky as public transport here links to most airports...

Re wardrobes, I hadn't managed with my allocated 60cm. Lots of stuff didn't fit in - my coats were in DS's room, and I'd have to put away out-of-season clothes into a trunk.

bigTillyMint · 30/05/2016 14:57

NU, it's DSs mates team - he could have gone to Wembley with them if we weren't coming up here!

Lalsy · 30/05/2016 15:01

ds is at Webmley! Grin

Cremo · 30/05/2016 15:14

I remember fondly being collected from near Heathrow by a lovely friend once. She agreed to meet me in the car from Hatton Cross, as it was free easier to park. I was very chuffed to only have to go one stop on the tube and be whizzed in to Pimlco apartment.
Dh always meets me at airport here as it is literally 10 minutes drive from house. I generally do the same. We have a texting system and waiting at nearly Tesco, to avoid parking charges .[frugal]

Stropperella · 30/05/2016 15:19

Damn fine achievement to manage with so little wardrobe space for so long, Herbs. Happy new wardrobe! (and I'm glad the do with the cousins went so well)

Thanks for all the good wishes, crepeys. I am feeling a bit better today, but still surprisingly weedy and somewhat depressed. I have just done a dog walk, which took twice as long as it should have done. I am now home alone with a load of tiresome work and admin to do.
Dd did schoolwork yesterday, so has awarded herself a day off at the beach today with some of her more colourful friends. She has taken my car to chauffeur everyone around. So I guess it will be full of sand later..

Dh is off playing yet another gig with his band. And ds has gone swimming with friends.

Instead of concentrating on work, I am busy worrying about other work, i.e. school, as it increasingly looks as though I should have taken legal advice before I signed anything when they offered me the "job". I am going to have to make further inquiries on various fronts.

Auriga, you've had a very tough year so far. I hope that you have some decent R&R in the pipeline in the near future. Has your dd finished her exams now?

Aargh, I really need to open the bloody work file and just do it. Or go and clean out the chickens. Well, both, really.

MrsS, at least he said he'd think about it. Better than "hahaha - no."

wordassociationfootball · 30/05/2016 15:34

Glad you're feeling a bit better Stropps.

Auriga, hope you're having the day you want to have.

Here I am hungover. It's a fair cop. I did have a SHERRY GLASS WITH A BIT OF WHITE WINE IN IT Angry

I'd like to consult the Crepey travel advisory service, Ireland division. Planning on 4 or maybe 5 nights en famille with dd's of 11 and 14, near the end of Aug. DD1 is set on Cork. This will be for random reasons that are 'hard to explain.' It looks like a good idea to me. Thoughts.... steers towards or away please.

Dreamqueen · 30/05/2016 15:44

Waf
Cork is lovely. The city is beautiful, it has great restaurants and plenty of stuff to do.

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/05/2016 16:11

I don't think we'll be having a family holiday this year. DD1 is going to Southern Africa for a month, DD2 is going to Texas for two weeks, DH is going sailing in Croatia. I am still contemplating what I'm going to do.

One of my cousins is posting a lot of Britain First and anti-immigration stuff, on FB. This is almost funny because a) his father was a refugee to the UK from Hungary b) his maternal great grandparents fled here from Germany c) his wife is Croatian and d) he has recently emigrated to Australia. I commented, good job the Aussies don't feel the same way about immigrants... He didn't get it.

I need to do online check in.

I don't expect to me met at Heathrow (or indeed anywhere else), but it would be nice occasionally.
