I'm wearing each item in my wardrobe to see if I still like it

Today is an Xmas gift from my DM. On paper, it should work. It's a dark and flowery dress - scuba material, and I tend to love anything floral

In reality, it rides up with every step I take and the armholes are funny

It's gone after today!

Anybody else want to join me?

I'd love to join in. Today is manky jeans that are unflattering and fall down, but I'm gardening and boat fixing so they are from that section of the wardrobe.

Tomorrow is work. I'm inspired to dig out an under used outfit and see what happens.

A sleeveless silk jumper in a boring grey colour has just been consigned to the bin. Has been in the wardrobe for years - I kept thinking I would wear it. Wore it yesterday and it is a little too tight over the bust and a little too short in the length! Out it goes.

allegretto · 22/05/2016 14:14

Friday I wore a striped top from Phase Eight that I don't really like. I thought I would give it one more go before throwing it out and my colleague said it looked really good! Not sure whether to save or chuck it now.

hippiedays · 22/05/2016 15:22

Today I'm wearing plum coloured trousers that I always pull out if I'm not going anywhere/doing housework. I'm in two minds about them. They are useful but I don't love them. Equally I don't want to wear something I love cleaning the bathroom/lying on my bed drinking coffee etc. What to do?

TobleroneBoo · 22/05/2016 15:23

Love all the responses. I am in comfy old clothes today

Allegreto why don't you like it? Or why did you think you didn't?

Oh I hate that - when someone compliments you on something which you think looks awful - or, even worse, the other way round, when you think you look the mutt's nuts and someone (a family member, usually) points out that the colour really doesn't suit you, or they've never really liked that dress.....

drspouse · 22/05/2016 15:36

I did this with my winter wardrobe and almost got all the way through (some things are only suitable for the office, but I'm only in two days most weeks, others really more suitable for church or for going out and those don't happen as often as they used to).

I will definitely join in for my summer wardrobe. Today I'm wearing my second favourite jeans (my favourite ones are nearly in need of a wash so I'm going to change into them for a messy activity later), a new (oops) Bravissimo jumper and a tunic length t-shirt I made that has an odd bit that rides up at the back of the neck but I think only I notice so I think I'll keep it. Next time I make a t-shirt I won't try to make a tie at the back of the neck (for some reason pattern designers really like these).

drspouse · 22/05/2016 15:39

Oh and when I did this for winter I started at the RH side of my wardrobe which is dresses. I was allowed to skip work/going out things but found a few tunicy type things that I could wear over jeans too.

I'm going somewhere hot for work on Weds so I think I will start with dresses again for packing!

bigkidsdidit · 22/05/2016 15:50

I did this with vests last week. I threw out 3/4 of my vest and tshirt drawer.

"A sleeveless silk jumper in a boring grey colour has just been consigned to the bin"

I sincerely hope that it isn't going to landfill. Can't you take it to a charity shop?

FrustratedFrugal · 22/05/2016 17:42

H&M takes used clothes back to recycle them. Will take a bagful there.

NewLife4Me · 22/05/2016 17:49

I'd love to join you but I'd have newt left.
I will look at some stuff though, but may have to keep some unsuitable things until I can replace

Detailsoverleaf · 22/05/2016 21:03

Rediscovered a black long sleeved T shirt from White Company today. It's really lovely thick, stretchy quality fabric, just the right length, arm length, perfect fit, so comfy and flattering. Need to start wearing this!

Threw out a bottle green Hobbs top, despite not being old the fabric had gone bobbly/rubbed up (but not bobbles that I could easily shave off). That's gone in the rag bag.

Tomorrow I start with my 5 work outfits made up of things I haven't worn for ages. Would like to post photos but don't want to out myself in case I work with anyone on here!

hippiedays · 22/05/2016 21:19

I have put eight pairs of trousers away. I need to lose weight and have needed to for three years. I have 8/9 pounds to go. If the trousers still look awful after I shift this weight I will give away. For now I have put in a black bag to go to the attic. My wardrobe looks much neater at least. I have a pile of 'unsure about' trousers that I will wear this week and if I'm not happy wearing them, they will go to the charity bag.

CointreauVersial · 22/05/2016 21:27

I have a couple of work outfits in mind, but worried it's not going to be warm enough for them this week!

Queenbean · 22/05/2016 21:40

Great idea for a thread, I'm in.

With anything that anyone is getting rid of perhaps we should post the size and a pic and if anyone wants it then it can go to that new home - sort of a swap shop?

calzone · 22/05/2016 21:48

Great idea! Am in!

TobleroneBoo · 23/05/2016 07:49

Today is a lovely cream with black polka dot tea dress. I do love it but it is all button down on the front ( although some are false, top and bottom ones aren't) there is a bit of poppage. I secured the top button with a safety pin last time but the second one is at it now Angry

Today's outfit is a grey pencil skirt, white tee, blue cardigan. Leopard flats.

Simple. But it is Monday...

Detailsoverleaf · 23/05/2016 08:02

Today I'm wearing a shirt dress. Bit big around the waist so put a belt on. It's not designed to be worn with a belt so will see how it works

drspouse · 23/05/2016 09:29

I'm wearing the same top and jumper as yesterday, boringly. Not quite warm enough for a dress without tights so going to buy some today.

Savagebeauty · 23/05/2016 09:39

I'm wearing a man's pink linen shirt and pale skinny jeans. Never worn shirt before. God it's comfy. No gaping across the bust

EquinoxBloom · 23/05/2016 12:25

I tried on a sand and white striped shirt this morning which turned out to be skintight so went in the bag Blush

Instead I've gone for a floaty black top with a lace panel on the chest and long sleeves. Grey skinnies and patent black t bar shoes.

It sounds random written down but I'm keeping all of it Smile

EquinoxBloom · 23/05/2016 12:25

Toblerone that dress sounds lovely but will have to go...

LookJustCancelTheCheque · 23/05/2016 13:22

This is an awesome idea. My wardrobe is bulging with things I haven't even seen for about eighteen months. Blush

Trouble is, I think going through and wearing them all would take about six months. Blush again.

Do you have to wear the items together in an outfit? Or is it one item a day? e.g. jeans you wear all the time with a vest you wear all the time and a cardigan you may keep or may throw?
