I'm wearing each item in my wardrobe to see if I still like it

Today is an Xmas gift from my DM. On paper, it should work. It's a dark and flowery dress - scuba material, and I tend to love anything floral

In reality, it rides up with every step I take and the armholes are funny

It's gone after today!

Anybody else want to join me?

I changed my mind again (decided to throw out the sample wool jumper without having to even try it on; this thread is making me more decisive!)

Instead I've got on a striped Clements Ribeiro jumper with a black rabbit silhouette. It fits fine; it IS fine. I feel a bit meh about it though, and again I'm working at home with no audience so am not sure how confident I'd feel in it in company.

I think it might be on its way to the charity bag.

BestBeforeDate · 25/05/2016 13:17

Just nipped out at lunchtime and caught a glimpse of my reflection in a shop window. The trousers are definitely too short, can't wait to get home and change into jeans now!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/05/2016 13:46

I have a black/white jumper in the wash that will go in The Bag and the cardigan I'm wearing today will follow it.

Put a bag load out yesterday for Charity Bag collection so clearing the way.....

BestBeforeDate · 25/05/2016 13:52

Sapphire the fact you threw away the jumper without wearing it is key to this whole thing isn't it? We keep stuff, thinking we'll wear it one day, then can't actually bear to put it on.

SapphireStrange · 25/05/2016 14:01

Best, yep! It's really useful to be on this thread. It's giving me a reminder every morning to look at things and think seriously about if I really want them.

SuperFlyHigh · 25/05/2016 15:00

what if you're undecided?

I can bring out a handful of clothes which are definite favourites and then the occasional top/blouse which I'm not sure about but wear it and always get compliments so that stays!

TobleroneBoo · 25/05/2016 15:21

I was doing well today until I saw myself in the toilet mirror, which has lights just above it. The downlighting made my bra very visible- I'm just hoping its not so obvious back at my desk!!

Top is nice, comfy and has a lovely length sleeve - may just need something underneath.

Super I think with the undecided ones it's worth considering how comfortable and easy to wear they are. Do you put something on and forget about it until you get ready for bed, or are you constantly wondering if it's right, or tugging it about if it doesn't fit quite right? If it's the former, and you're getting compliments, then surely it's a keeper; if it irritates you in some way, even though it looks nice, then I'm not sure it's worth the hassle.

FrustratedFrugal · 25/05/2016 16:12

I put on two things from the rail, then changed my mind and wore something I really wanted to wear. Says it all, doesn't it?

ModerateBecomingGoodLater · 25/05/2016 16:19

Agreed. For a night out (once or twice a decade) I can cope with clothes that need active management, for work I need stuff that is decent, smart, comfortable, and zero hassle.

Last on night I binned some casual clothes: yoga pants with grease stains, a threadbare top, and a lovely Breton top that has shrunk to a crop top. My midriff is not crop top compatible.

SuperFlyHigh · 25/05/2016 18:32

It's really strange also works with packed away stuff (summer) mine are stored somewhere high and hard to reach... I'm currently needing my Monsoon black cropped trousers (great for spring and summer) and my friend first time I wore them gave me a nice compliment as "nice to find a good pair of well fitting trousers" her words!

Plus a mango black origami work dress sleeveless but stretch so really comfy.

Detailsoverleaf · 25/05/2016 20:05

Up tomorrow is a bright orange silk T-shirt, like the style, not sure about the colour on me.....

Ememem84 · 25/05/2016 20:41

Keeping today's outfit. Love how summery the skirt looked.

Tomorrow will be wearing a simple black wrap dress. Tan pony skin flats.

CointreauVersial · 25/05/2016 21:10

Today I tried a couple of work tops with black trousers. First up was a square-necked blousy top with short puffed sleeves - white with a subtle black circle print. I've had it for years, it was too big for me for a long time, but I've grown into it. Blush But the length was all wrong - I'm not a tucker, and it stopped right at the widest part of my hips so I felt like a tank (same as Boden Ravello tops, which I don't get on with for the same reason). It's outta here.

So I ended up wearing a similarly ancient M&S jersey top, short sleeves, pleats at neck, grey and lime green print....much better shape on me, worn with the above-mentioned trousers and a grey Boden cardi. It was OK, but I'm worried that the print makes it frumpy. I'll give it another chance because I like the colours and shape.

whirlygirly · 25/05/2016 21:13

Love today's outfit. Slate grey relaxed skinnies with metallic linen t shirt and Zara cardi. Metallic converse trainers. All comfortable and flattering.

Agree with pp that taste changes immensely in 10 yrs. back then I wore a line knee length skirts and wide leg linen trousers. Jumpers were quite fitted. I like slouchy layers now.

I think I need to pick the items I love from my wardrobe and get shot of everything I just like. That is hard.

EquinoxBloom · 26/05/2016 06:56

I'm getting rid of two summer dresses today. I got them years ago, same dress in two colours. They're definitely tatty now and I have so many newer and lovelier dresses that they'll be joining the other cast offs today.

Detailsoverleaf · 26/05/2016 12:23

Top is staying. Shoes are really annoying me - the heels slip off my feet. They might have to go, but they look so nice ....

CointreauVersial · 26/05/2016 13:11

Another "new" item today - a plain grey jersey Boden dress from eBay. Lovely! Perhaps slightly on the casual side for work, but I dressed it up with a necklace and heeled sandals. Very comfy, and skims all my lumps and bumps.

BestBeforeDate · 26/05/2016 13:28

Put an old pair of jeans on today that had faded and gone a bit tatty and was thinking they should be thrown out. However, now the weather's a bit better I've rolled them up a bit to above my ankles and wearing them with a pale pink sweater and ballet flats and they look summery and 'beachy', so they'll certainly last another few months. (It's actually really cold here, but I'm enjoying the look!)

FrustratedFrugal · 26/05/2016 14:50

I wore the botton half of yesterday's dismissed outfit and received compliments. Lesson learned: pair iffy bits with your favorites, they will be much easier to wear.

BestBeforeDate · 26/05/2016 15:17

Frugal yes, this is an interesting exercise as I'm trying to find different ways of wearing stuff I had lost interest in to see if I can make them work, with some success so far. It's making me actually think about a 'look' rather than just bunging stuff on and then feeling unhappy with the result.

FrustratedFrugal · 26/05/2016 15:28

BestBefore I agree! And my favorite pair of jeans this year is an ancient pair from H&M. I found them last year during our house move. They are straight and not skintight, look fab rolled up, and the denim is super soft and feels wonderful on.

I've figured out how to wear quite a few items this year. Often I need the right tee, the right vest or the right shoes, and it takes a few iterations and some patience and to get the outfit to work.

I've also refound my bright green Zatchel from a few years ago. It looks great with plain navy/blue/white outfits.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 26/05/2016 17:40

Ooh may I join please? I've just found this thread and am excited to go and try stuff on!

Today's outfit is new and will remain. Navy dress from Jeetly as powerdressing for a meeting today. Requires remedial underwear but definitely a keeper as I feel amazing in it Grin.

My "casual" clothes however are a different matter. Off home I go to find tomorrow's outfit to try!

TobleroneBoo · 26/05/2016 17:47

Welcome welcome!

My outfit today is a black wrap dress. A bit booby so I put a white bandeau underneath. All fine until I saw my reflection in a bus and realised I look like a nun Grin

Good items just better separately I think

Woops Toblerone . Maybe try a black camisole underneath?
