I'm wearing each item in my wardrobe to see if I still like it

Today is an Xmas gift from my DM. On paper, it should work. It's a dark and flowery dress - scuba material, and I tend to love anything floral

In reality, it rides up with every step I take and the armholes are funny

It's gone after today!

Anybody else want to join me?

Day one - these trousers.

Very comfy, but loose at the top, kind of high waisted (although I cover it with a top) and tapered above the ankle.

Stay, or go?

I'm wearing each item in my wardrobe to see if I still like it
albertcampionscat · 21/05/2016 09:12

Go.

Miffyandme · 21/05/2016 09:18

I'll join in please. I try to tackle my wardrobe every so often with a big empty and try-on, but in reality I don't have the time for that anymore and it is always messy, stressful etc.
I have a feeling there will be some things that won't even make it to be worn out of the house. I must be ruthless about what I put in boxes "for when I am thinner"!

FiveShelties · 21/05/2016 10:23

What an excellent idea. I have been wearing items and then hanging the coat hanger the other way, but I keep cheating! Your idea sounds much better.

Ememem84 · 21/05/2016 10:58

vaara I like the trousers. But would probably only wear them in the house. So no one would see them.

Go.

CutYourHairAndGetAJob · 21/05/2016 11:06

I do this sometimes, it is great because I find things which I really like but I'd forgotten about, and I also find things which definitely need to be chucked.

Unfortunately I'm still a bit bigger than my normal size after having ds six months ago so I can't do it properly at the moment

Vaara · 21/05/2016 14:24

Go? Hmm

I think I agree. They're so comfy I get seduced into them, but I've got another less offensive pair which are definitely more flattering.

What is it about them specifically? Cut? Or pattern? Or both?

GoofyIsACow · 21/05/2016 14:29

Ooh i like this thread! I am in! Working tomorrow and i wear a uniform so monday will be day 1 :)

Vaara, the decider for me would be shoes, do you have any shoes to go with? The fit seems good, length good, pattern not bad...

AdrenalineFudge · 21/05/2016 14:34

Vaara, I'm also in the Go camp. As someone else said I'd only wear them whilst lounging about at home.

I think I need to be ruthless with this as if I 'save' something on the off chance I'll eventually like it then it defeats the whole purpose.

thestarryeyedsurprise · 21/05/2016 15:27

I love this thread...

Sorry to say.. Trousers must go.

Vaara · 21/05/2016 15:37

Ok ok they're gone!

Shoes - flip flops, sandals or navy pumps

Miffyandme · 21/05/2016 15:44

Vaara, those trousers just look like they're a bit baggy around the bum and top bit - kind of like you've had good wears out of them but they're tired now, so I'd say go too.

Ememem84 · 21/05/2016 17:30

I've ditched four tops this afternoon. Two were old faves which were falling apart and needed to go. These have been binned.

Two others have been worn once and were in the "what was I thinking" pile. They've been put in a bag for the charity shop.

NicknameUsed · 21/05/2016 17:34

Great idea. I shall steal it.

What is scuba material?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/05/2016 17:48

Totally in here Grin
I have a bag ready to go on Tuesday.
I sorted out some underwear/socks last week (work socks are black) , chucked out ones I wouldn't want to be wearing if I ended up in A&E (my Gran's yardstick foe decency of undercrackers. When my Dad was a boy , he ended up in hospital. She didn't say "Oh my poor boy, are you ok"? . It was "I hope you have clean underwear on" Shock )

Scarves,gloves sorted out.

Some This Old Thing clothes in the bag.
Couple of shapeless jumpers that I'd sadly imagined would be flowing and lovely, but I just look saggy and middle-aged.

Off to sort out my DS clothes too, he's outgrown some.

BestBeforeDate · 21/05/2016 17:54

Excellent idea. I'm away on holiday at the moment (so wearing stuff that rarely sees the light of day at home) but I will definitely join in next week.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/05/2016 19:20

I love the length of those trousers vaara, as I have quite skinny ankles and I find with the right shoes/pumps I can look down and see my bony ankles and feet which makes me feel skinny all day. yes, I am that sad however, the florals are the sort of thing I buy (because I like the idea of being floaty and boho) but never wear (because I actually look more 'playgroup leader'). Wardrobe is /was full of unworn florals!

TobleroneBoo · 21/05/2016 19:23

Nickname it's like a thick shinyish material, not sure how best to describe

Love how into this you all are getting!

I did think I wouldn't do casual clothes but today's leggings are a bit see through - off they go!!

Great idea.

I have a whole wardrobe of lovely clothes, but always wear the same boring stuff because it's easy.

So I've just planned my outfits for Monday - Friday, wearing some stuff I haven't worn for ages. I've written down on the lists section of my phone what I'll wear each day, so the thinking has already been done.

I culled my wardrobe fairly recently and got rid of all the stuff I didn't like, but I just need to make more of an effort to create different outfits from what I have, and try to look my best, rather than throwing on any old thing that doesn't really go well together.

LardLizard · 21/05/2016 22:10

Great idea, will copy

SpiritedLondon · 21/05/2016 23:41

It's very liberating to have a sort out. If you've got the patience to take photos of everything you may want to try an app called Closet which allows you to keep photo records of items in different categories, eg tops, trousers, skirts etc. It also allows you to tag each item eg work, beach, short sleeves, red etc so you can plan outfits by searching under a number of different categories. I find it's helpful to see all your items in front of you rather than having to pull them out of the wardrobe or drawers. etc. I can sit on the train during my boring commute and plan an outfit in advance since I barely have the time or energy by the time I get done with dinner. V helpful.

CointreauVersial · 22/05/2016 01:22

Ooh ooh me too!

I started doing exactly this a couple of weeks ago, having sorted through my clothes and folded them nicely Kon-Mari fashion, so I could see what I actually had. I'm addicted to charity shopping, with the result that my wardrobe was bulging. I'm attempting to wear each item and if I'm not feeling the love, it is being dispatched to eBay, or back to the charity shop!

So far, I've got rid of a blue Monsoon top that made me look like a tank and creased terribly, a droopy wrap dress that showed too much cleavage, and a Boden dress in an unflattering shade of vomit green.

But I've discovered a lot of old favourites which had been buried under everything else, and it has been nice to wear them again.

duro1 · 22/05/2016 07:45

I need to join this.... got so many clothes and probably wear about 10% of wardrobe... I've got back to pre baby weight now but my boobs (which were already big) have not gone back down and it makes a lot of my old clothes look pretty hideous... sob

FrustratedFrugal · 22/05/2016 11:49

I wore the blue silk peasant top all day yesterday, then went out for a drink and switched to something else (a relief). Clothes that are fiddly or don't sit right have no place in my wardrobe. That top needs to go.

Today I am wearing a bright watermelon red tunic top. It languished unworn in my wardrobe for years, then rediscovered it last summer. I need to pair it with bright lipstick but it feels effortless and good on - a definite keep.

CointreauVersial · 22/05/2016 12:54

Today is just a slobbing about at home day, but I have dug out a pale orange jersey smocky/shirty thing - M&S Indigo via charity shop - wearing with grey skinny jeans.

It's okaaaay, fine for today, but I probably wouldn't wear it out anywhere. It's a nice unusual colour, though. I will keep for now,
