I'm wearing each item in my wardrobe to see if I still like it

Today is an Xmas gift from my DM. On paper, it should work. It's a dark and flowery dress - scuba material, and I tend to love anything floral

In reality, it rides up with every step I take and the armholes are funny

It's gone after today!

Anybody else want to join me?

Hippie - I could see that dress being worn casual! Some wedge-heeled sandals - perfect for a day out, or shopping trip. It's really nice.

hippiedays · 17/06/2016 00:05

Coin - it is very flattering on (mummy tummy is hidden). I'm so tempted to keep it, it really is very office(y) though. The colour and especially the collar is like a school shirt!

CointreauVersial · 17/06/2016 00:18

I'm tempted to buy it myself!!

trevortrevorslatterfry · 17/06/2016 09:23

hippie keep it! It doesn't look office-y at all to my eye, although I am in an office full of accountants far, far from London, so no fashion forwardness at all here!

drspouse · 17/06/2016 09:38

I'd wear that for a non-office day (if it was ever warm enough).

Jeans and a Uniqlo patterned tshirt and a Boden thin jumper here - I like the jumper but it hides the whole of whatever's under it and I kind of have a weird thing about there being no point in wearing something nice under it if you can't see it and you aren't going to take off the jumper. Daft I know. But both of them fit and flatter so both are keepers and it might be warm enough to take the jumper off.

gingerboy1912 · 17/06/2016 10:32

I have done this it's very satisfying. Looks over at my under stairs cupboard as its rammed and I can't find anything in there

drspouse · 20/06/2016 13:12

Mainly tatty stuff for camping at the weekend though I did wear two Breton tops that are still OK.
Multi Breton t-shirt (must have all congregated together in the drawer) that is more OK for work than I thought, plus blue tweedy cotton trousers and bright blue cardigan today.

BananaChew · 20/06/2016 13:54

Totally late to the table but may I join please? Love this idea
Today I am wearing my skinny H&M jeans which cost £12.99 and are my faves in the entire world. Wear them (one of my two pairs of same jeans) at least 4 times a week!

New zara shirt on today - bought last week in sale and was not sure but I think I am sold.

White converse, fossil watch. All keepers.

Heading out to meet a friend from dinner and need something over the top. Going to wear my jacquard type oversize cardigan - not convinced about this and it may be my first throw out.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 20/06/2016 14:31

Hello banana / ginger / everyone

I have decided over the weekend to throw out all of my hoodies. I practically live in them but they are all men's small ones and make me look like a potato. I will replace a couple with ones that are actually the right size - I have nothing against hoodies in general.

BananaChew · 22/06/2016 18:45

Think I have my first victim. It's hard to throw out though because I used to love it. Think it no longer suits me though. The neckline seems wrong and it hangs a bit shapelessly.

I'm wearing each item in my wardrobe to see if I still like it
drspouse · 22/06/2016 20:46

Today I wore- drum roll - A DRESS. I've almost finished my t-shirt drawer and was left with about 3 white ones. Desigual, it is a tad low cut but I love it and wore a plain cardigan over it, both keepers.

My dresses for summer seem to be mainly going out/holiday (maxi dresses etc) or quite casual (t-shirt dresses). I could probably wear the latter to work on non-public-facing days. But I'm going to be packing for a UK holiday soon so I'll shove a few in. Need to do some ironing now so if I iron a skirt or two I can get the last couple of white t-shirts worn.

CointreauVersial · 23/06/2016 01:05

BananaChew - agree, the cardi isn't doing much for you, but maybe if you're undecided put it into the loft for a while.

Today I was wearing a Boden top which I love, but it is the most difficult colours - tan, with pinky-orange stripes. It goes with virtually nothing in my wardrobe, except for my off-white Gap Aubrey chinos. Which I wore today, but they are on the verge of being too tight. Both are keepers for now, but if my arse gets any bigger the trousers will have to go. Then I won't be able to wear the top at all!! I have the same top in blue/cream, and it gets way more wear.

I had a free hour today, so sorted through all the tops and shirts in my wardrobe. A shirt has been banished to the eBay pile (it's M&S Limited Collection, black with red and pink daisies, but it's weirdly-cut, with horrible tight sleeves and a wide body. Too long at the back as well). Two work-shirts are going into the loft; until I lose a bit of weight they're too boobilicious for the office. And I have lined up items for the next few days.

drspouse · 23/06/2016 09:39

I've got an ironed skirt and I'm not afraid to wear it. A-line, lightweight, knee length, orange/red/pink big slightly retro flowers.

No idea where it's from, I would say it's home made but the stitching is factory machine stitching (I know these things). New White Stuff white tee and mint green cardigan. All keepers (the skirt is ancient and I was a bit worried it wouldn't fit any more but it's good. It has a bit of lingerie elastic instead of a waistband which is a good tip for my own makes as it would be ultra easy to do).

BananaChew · 23/06/2016 10:21

Put on a new ebay purchase this morning- Zara Boho blouse with a tie neck at the back. White. Loved the pictures, love the blouse but in practise I don't think it's great on. My husband says I look like I'm an extra from Abba! Back on ebay. Another one down.

christinawilliams · 23/06/2016 10:59

Great idea. I'm definitely going to do this!

CointreauVersial · 23/06/2016 18:20

It's so therapeutic - I'm loving my wardrobe again!

Today I am wearing a lovely black short-sleeved top I found hidden at the back of my wardrobe. Every Christmas, MIL buys me an acrylic knitted monstrosity from a local shop, but a couple of years ago I managed to sneak back to the shop in late December, and swap it for something I actually liked - which was this top. It's polyester, but not remotely tight and clammy, and has a really cool stepped hem. I've only worn it a couple of times - no idea why it has been so neglected!

I'm wearing it with some Phase Eight trousers, ex-charity shop. They were an strange length so I shortened them to ankle-flasher - perfect with black wedge sandals.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 24/06/2016 09:53

Yesterday's outfit sounds lovely Cointreau.
I am giving a dress its first wear today and it's a keeper hurrah!

MIL gave me it as she'd bought it for herself but it was too short. She's a bit taller than me so it's an acceptable length for the office for me.

My wardrobe is definitely a lot less crammed with stuff that doesn't get worn these days Smile

drspouse · 24/06/2016 10:05

Have started on the casual dresses - White Stuff tunic dress with cropped leggings.
Need to go and pack several of them for holiday and swap the DCs clothes that DH chose for some that match

drspouse · 24/06/2016 13:48

Leggings are bagging horrendously - they are Boden and it's the first wear so I will see if I still have a return label/form.
I bought the next size down too to try but returned them as the calves were too tight but I don't think I'll re-order those ones.

Ememem84 · 30/06/2016 07:34

banana lovely bathroom..!

Today's offering - grey pencil skirt - old but a fave. And a button down shirt with a black fleck pattern and pink inner cuffs. From white stuff.

shirt is nice but maybe a bit shapeless. I've tucked it into skirt.

Will see how it goes during the day but I suspect it'll be on eBay at the weekend.

Black ballet flats.

pippinandtog · 30/06/2016 10:23

I'm new in these parts, so hope I don't get shot down in flames for this one:
Thought this was a great idea and been wearing long-forgotten tops- the subject of possible shame is that I love my jersey polyestery trousers- got a pair in black and a pair in navy and every thing goes with them, they are extremely flattering, hanging nicely on my pear-shaped figure.
But are they really old- lady trousers( they were from Kaleidoscope).
Only asking on here as it's anonymous- be kind to me!

drspouse · 30/06/2016 10:42

I'm fabric-ist and hate polyester, if it was me I'd be looking for similar in another fabric.
On a family holiday, mainly city sightseeing. Have not had a top (all proper blouses etc not t-shirts) that has been no good. Even my long shorts that felt a bit tight when I put them on were fine after five minutes. And I've worn two linen tunics that normally I'd shy away from on off duty days are proving great over shorts/jeans.
Minor down side is I'm going to have to do some ironing. On holiday! How unjust!
Today I'm wearing a sweatshirt dress and we're going to the beach.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 30/06/2016 13:24

pippin I guess everyone has their own criteria - mine are: "does it make me feel like I look good + feel happy in myself" - so who cares if your trousers are old-lady ish as long as you look good and feel great!

drspouse I am Envy at your beach trip!

I have a recently-resurrected top on for work today.

In other news I bought myself a couple of new hoodies yesterday. New Look girls 13-14 years fit me a treat now I have ditched the men's small ones which make me look like a potato.

drspouse · 30/06/2016 14:56

It was a very British beach trip. I didn't take off my dress (I didn't actually tuck it into my knickers but I thought about it) and we had fish and chips. V glam.

Ememem84 · 30/06/2016 17:35

Shirt is going. It got more unflattering as the day went on. To be honest I wasn't happy with it really this morning.
