I'm wearing each item in my wardrobe to see if I still like it

Today is an Xmas gift from my DM. On paper, it should work. It's a dark and flowery dress - scuba material, and I tend to love anything floral

In reality, it rides up with every step I take and the armholes are funny

It's gone after today!

Anybody else want to join me?

Grin nice!

My mam's friend (also a clothkits fan) had two daughters - one older and one younger than me - so we were in a constant cycle of years of each others' hand-me-downs of identical clothes.

Then my female cousins got the stuff - I think the aforementioned pink dress/skirt eventually gave up the ghost about 10 years after its original owner first wore it.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 09/06/2016 14:47

Sorry for clothkits derail!
I will look for my black sundress for tomorrow to see if it can stay or go.

Ememem84 · 09/06/2016 20:38

Tomorrow is dress down. Planning on khaki skinnies, simple white vest top. And skinny knit black jumper.

drspouse · 09/06/2016 21:25

I'm taking DS to my mum's tomorrow afternoon for the weekend so need to pack, probably new coloured chinos and selection of t-shirts. Will pack spare in case some don't work!

CointreauVersial · 09/06/2016 22:52

LOL at 1970s cruel....try growing up in the 1970s with a fashion designer DM! All my clothes were made by her, and were somewhat...err... fashion forward. I also have memories of the two of us sporting matching purple trouser suits.

Swebby - I will photograph the skirt. It's such a tricky colour!

Anyway, I did well today, in top-to-toe charity shop. A Next white linen shirt with a lovely Kew blue/turquoise cord skirt (button front, slightly tulip shape). I have previously only worn the skirt in the winter so it was great to find a summer use for it. I also found a cardigan (M&S, also charity shop) in my stash which perfectly picked out the blue in the skirt. Happy days.

CointreauVersial · 10/06/2016 21:43

Another item brought back from the dead today....in one of the many fashion blogs I was reading recently, someone was wearing a long tunic-style shirt with long side splits, over skinny trousers and sandals. Light bulb! I have a shirt like that somewhere! After a bit of digging about in the loft I found it - it's from Monsoon (via eBay), cream with yellow and green flower print, and I haven't worn it for years. But it looks fab over a pair of Jack Wills (via charity shop) skinny khakis and some green/brown leather flip flops. I'm so pleased I hadn't thrown it out.

Mainly new items today - yet another Uniqlo t-shirt, Boden orange coral chinos, and Dunlop purple canvas shoes. DS chose the baggy lilac White Stuff jumper for me and I do actually quite like it so will keep it good thing as I didn't bring another jumper away and it's set to rain.

BestBeforeDate · 10/06/2016 22:16

Cointreau I think that's the useful thing about this thread - actually making us think about how we can make stuff work rather than leaving them languishing in the wardrobe (or the loft!). Your outfit sounds great.

Ememem84 · 10/06/2016 22:30

Black skinny jumper may have to be thrown away. It's a bit holy moly but so comfy

My friend was embarrassed to be seen with me while I was wearing it.

ModerateBecomingGoodLater · 11/06/2016 07:40

Yesterday was an important meeting at work so I combined smart navy Hobbs 7/8 slim leg trousers with nude heels (still a tad scruffy), a bright yellow short sleeve jersey that I haven't worn in a year, and the navy blazer that narrowly escaped the bin earlier.

I lost count of the number of complements and comments.

I'm going to rescue a similar black jacket from the "sell" pile.

This thread is doing wonders for my work wardrobe game. Casual still a challenge for me, but some blue superga are on their way Amazon....

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/06/2016 14:30

Nice navy/spot top (BHS) with nice fitting arms and a round neck ( I bought a red one too but didn't keep it)
The fabric is nice, stretchy .

I seem to have a huge amount of navy in my wardrobe , I don't wear much black, navy seems to be my Go To colour/neutral.

To redress the lack of colour, I bought a nudey pink top and a jade green yesterday.

One thing I did last year which really helped was put all my clothes in colour order.
White/White+black/Black/Grey/Navy/Green/Wine/Brown/Dark pink/Light pink/Peach/Beige/Yellow/Cream

Anything patterned gets fitted in the colour it has most of.

It means I can see what goes with what rather than having shirts/blouses/jumpers/jeans order

drspouse · 11/06/2016 19:15

Same coral chinos today with an H&M plain white t-shirt which is quite fitted but works OK, and a White Company white cardigan which I often wonder what to wear over - answer is - white t-shirts. Both stood up well to a day of DS, relatives' new puppy, and helping my mum sort my brother's tat. As I only brought one pair of long trousers and one pair of crops, and it's not as warm as last week, suspect I'll be wearing the chinos again tomorrow.

CointreauVersial · 11/06/2016 22:31

White jeans today, with a black puff-sleeved fine cotton top from H&M. It has multi-coloured embroidery around the neck, so looks vaguely folksy. Both are staying in my wardrobe.

Loving this exercise! I honestly don't think I've worn the same outfit twice since I started.

Ememem84 · 12/06/2016 13:15

Pink skinnies today. With blue strappy cami and white skinny knit jumper. And fuzzy slippers.

Not sure about these.

I'm wearing each item in my wardrobe to see if I still like it
drspouse · 12/06/2016 14:11

Tried on a Zara white twist top but it has such an odd seam across the boobage area that it's a no. The area below the seam is a single layer so appears see through as well.
So having brought a random selection of clothes, I'm wearing coral chinos, a white t-shirt with pink flowers that fits and it's nice but clashes, and the lilac boxy jumper again which doesn't work with the t-shirt neckline.
Individual items: fine.
Outfit: bag lady.

CointreauVersial · 12/06/2016 23:50

Ememem - we won't miss you on a dark night. Grin

I've just been out for a pizza with the DCs and dug out a dark denim blue linen shirt dress from M&S Autograph. It needs to be ironed before every wear (I don't do ironing) so it doesn't get out much! And of course, I spilled something down it, so it will go straight back in the wash, grrr... It's a nice dress, though, a size 8 (haha! I'm a solid 12 in reality), and perfect for warm-but-not-too-warm days.

drspouse · 13/06/2016 10:31

Home today, Gap girlfriend jeans today, they fit really nicely but the legs are pretty skinny. Boden logo t-shirt (actually Johnnie B) and Paul Frank Julius hoodie. I tried on a Uniqlo hoodie I've worn before but it is pretty thin fabric and a printed all over design so the, er, chest area, is a little, er, stretched. It's gone in the "maybe sell" pile as it's hardly been worn.

I'm ordering a couple of work wear white t-shirts from John Lewis as I need to order bedding for DD who's just had the side taken off her cot. Urgh.

SapphireStrange · 13/06/2016 12:07

Fallen off this thread a bit.

Dug out today a chunky but quite open-knit grey cardigan. Really like it and had forgotten I had it! It's being kept.

CointreauVersial · 13/06/2016 16:33

After a weekend of carby over-indulgence I needed something tummy-skimming for work today. I am wearing an old F&F dress, black and tan, wrap-style with ruching and folds in all the right places. It's doing a fine job of disguising my pizza-bloat. Grin

ModerateBecomingGoodLater · 13/06/2016 17:38

Loving the post pizza fashion tips! I am giving a new, second hand pair of navy chinos their trial day today.

I'm cheesed off that they are not as nice as the identical pair I already own. They are too tight in the calves so the legs ride up. Not quite sure what to do with them. I might cut them off and try to open the seams to make the calves fit.

Supergas arrived today. They fit but I just don't know, they just look big, and new, and a bit silly. Gah.

Ememem84 · 13/06/2016 21:50

Today's outfit included a favourite orange skirt. A fave white top. Blue cardigan ( which needs a wash as it smelled a bit of old wardrobe) and a new pair of navy suede wedges. New as in never worn still with labels on. But bought last year. Oops.

CointreauVersial · 13/06/2016 22:45

I love orange and blue. I just bought an orange shirt on eBay and looking forward to pairing it with lots of denim and navy.

ARichVernacular · 14/06/2016 09:05

I love yellow and orange but they don't work at all with my colouring :(

Today's outfit is a teal Smedley jumper with brown straight knee length Jigsaw skirt and brown Clarks heels. A dependable set of workwear. Pleased though that the jumper looks much better on since I've trimmed down a bit.

Also tried on some linen trousers yesterday that haven't fitted in ages - now they do, hurray! just about

CointreauVersial · 14/06/2016 13:36

Jumper and boots in June - where's the summer gone??!

I'm wearing a new (to me) Boden top I picked up on eBay. It's cotton, short-sleeved, with a broderie anglais front, in a lovely bright scarlet. I was worried it would be a bit tight over the boobs, but it's fine. Wearing with my most ancient and dependable grey work trousers.

Works very well as an outfit, but I should have chosen a slightly better necklace...

Moderate - can you cut down your chinos into shorts??
