I'm wearing each item in my wardrobe to see if I still like it

Today is an Xmas gift from my DM. On paper, it should work. It's a dark and flowery dress - scuba material, and I tend to love anything floral

In reality, it rides up with every step I take and the armholes are funny

It's gone after today!

Anybody else want to join me?

Burgundy courts sound lovely!

trevortrevorslatterfry · 07/06/2016 12:43

ememem84 where did you get your tan pointed flats pray tell? I could do with a pair!

Love the kickers sandals too upthread.

Tried and tested today as I am being AUDITED. Bah.

I may dig out an old summer work dress tomorrow if weather permits. I've a black one and a cream one the same so I could try them both out this week. Fingers crossed for some sun!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/06/2016 17:33

I dug out a draped maxi skirt today (so, shorter and shaped at the front and longer at the back) and wore it with sandals. I do like it, but actually I think I prefer it in Autumn with tights and ankle boots. A keeper, but maybe not so much for summer, as I found the jersey a bit too warm.

Wore it with a brilliant jacket, which is a definite keeper. I got it from a charity shop and think it might be Primark originally, but have been asked several times if it's Westwood. Love it and wish I could find more just like it!

Ememem84 · 07/06/2016 18:19

Tan flats are a buy from years ago. But I swear I've seen some in dune.

Burgundy courts are ace. From Jones. Look like lk Bennett's.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/06/2016 18:31

Wore a scoop necked , bit low in the armpits but fitted T Shirt yesterday (as I had waxed my armpits) Okay but the label annoyed me (I can snip it out)

Wearing another dress today - keeper Smile

CointreauVersial · 07/06/2016 18:41

Wearing my new Mango culottes today with a old top - a bright pink short-sleeved cotton knit with a lace panel at the top. It was a cheapo from George @ Asda, but it is cool, pretty and fits well, so it is staying.

Have had lots of inspiration from Swebby's wardrobe - it reminded me I have a green and black palm/leaf print skirt (ALSO Asda, now I come to think of it Blush) which is very similar to one being modelled so beautifully, and I haven't worn that for ages. I will dig that out in the next few days.

I wish I had some more interesting shoes - mine are all black/blue/brown - very dull.

drspouse · 07/06/2016 19:44

A three trouser day- no 1 was a pair of crops that is too tight so is going, no 2 was weed on by DD within half an hour (knee length chino shorts) but is nice, and no 3 was red cropped Boden also sort of chino-ish.
Black old favourite t-shirt with elephants on top which is a bit faded and may only have this one season left but I'll stretch it out.

These are my Kickers sandals

Tomorrow's outfit. Black shift dress. With long olive green cardigan. Tan ballerina flats. I have a lot of tan flats...

I may have clients in so will substitute flats for black courts if I need to. Staple lk Bennett's which live under my desk.

The thing I'm finding difficult is that today for example out of all the women in the office I was the most dressed up. And someone has again asked me why. As much as I like saying "because I can" it's getting old. Why is no one I know in real life getting on board with this...?!!?!

Swebby · 08/06/2016 01:08

Eventully they'll stop asking and you'll be know as 'that lady in the office who always dresses really well' which will be awesome!

Ememem84 · 08/06/2016 06:28

Haha! I hope so!! It is nice being a bit more dressy!

I was away in London on Friday and my boss asked why. So I told him. His words were " wish others would smarten up" (we do have some shockers - were a no jeans except on Fridays smart casual office. But some are a bit too casual. Birkenstocks were worn yesterday by someone.

ARichVernacular · 08/06/2016 09:01

I don't think anyone will say that about me today Swebby Blush Stretchy striped tube skirt, black vest, charcoal grey wrap cardigan with three quarter length bell sleeves - have had this for ages and considered getting rid a while ago, but glad I didn't as it is very light so useful as a cover up on muggy days like today. Flat strappy sandals. I work in education though so can get away with a more relaxed look.

The only thing that annoys me about this cardigan is that it sorts of rides up. I have realised I have a very short body which makes it hard to find flattering summer tops - anything unfitted which stops at the hips makes me look like a box. In the winter I can just wear long sleeved tees and jumpers to work, but vests are a bit too casual even for me without something over the top.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 08/06/2016 10:14

Everyone's outfits of today sound lovely.

I've got my cream dress on - I cut the fabric waist tie off it and have an actual belt on instead which looks much better. I like the dress but it creases really badly across the middle when I've been sitting down, so will see if it passes or fails based on how I feel in it at the end of the day.

Thanks for the shoe information - I actually need tan ballerinas not pointy flats, really. I shall go and investigate the shops at lunchtime.

drspouse · 08/06/2016 12:14

At home today with a new pair of Jigsaw stripy straight legs and an old grey v neck t-shirt. T-shirt is still OK and fills a boring hole in the wardrobe.
Also put on a lilac floppy White Stuff jumper this morning. Not sure - may be too floppy/boxy/triangular. I have a lot of fine knit jumpers. I think I'll hold off till I've tried it with jeans though.

BareBearBum · 08/06/2016 14:20

Yes!!! So glad I found this thread.
I've been doing this for a while now, as moving soon and we'll have less cupboard space.
I'm being brutal, there are clothes that survived kon Marie-ing that have gone because I just didn't quite like them enough iykwim.
I get dressed and have a good look in the mirror and if I don't feel really good, it's in the charity bag.
I have filled 3 black bags! Blush
I'm now also better at trying stuff on in shops ( I never used to do this! )

ModerateBecomingGoodLater · 08/06/2016 19:13

Dug out some summer staples today, that haven't seen the light of day for a year.

A slightly fitted short sleeve white shirt, great but a tiny bit see through, with a multicolored leaf print boden skirt which is still great.

Both keepers.

My 'safe' aka dull navy cardigan is going to get its marching orders. It does me no favours and is so middle aged.

Tomorrow I am going to break out a fabulous spoty dress, and see how it fares.

CointreauVersial · 08/06/2016 21:03

Wore a slightly boxy black broderie anglais top (Zara) today, with a black/orange/tan/cream patterned pencil skirt (M&S).

Not bad as an outfit for a dull day in the office, but I wish the skirt went with more things. Will find something different to wear on top next time I wear it.

Swebby · 09/06/2016 01:01

Do you have a pic of the skirt Cointreau?

ModerateBecomingGoodLater · 09/06/2016 08:05

Spotty dress didn't make it out of the bedroom. Viscose underskirt / slip was too sweaty. And its tight round the arms.
I've been hanging on to it for years, but today it goes.

Boden floaty multicolored flowery dress instead.

ARichVernacular · 09/06/2016 09:06

Woohoo, I'm wearing a pair of jeans that didn't fit last time I tried them on! They can stay, they are motivational Grin and look nice now I've lost a bit of weight.

Worn with an ancient red cat print top and a utilitarian cardi. I need more summer cover up options, cardis are starting to feel a bit middle aged (now that I am middle aged).

drspouse · 09/06/2016 09:18

I'm wearing a green Clothkits A-line skirt (old Clothkits, I made it from an untouched kit a few years ago) and a White Stuff gathered t-shirt - the skirt is awkward because of the waist - you can't wear a fitted long t-shirt and you can't really tuck anything in either. The hook on the waistband needs tightening a little but otherwise it's nice.

The t-shirt is new and I like it (I have it in 3 colours but the green was too green with the green skirt. I looked like a tree).

trevortrevorslatterfry · 09/06/2016 09:54

Ah drspouse Clothkits!

I used to be dressed head-to-toe in clothkits as a child in the late 70s / early 80s. I remember a neverending pink pinafore that my mam converted into a skirt once I outgrew the dress - I think the kit was made on purpose to allow that to happen.

Grin at looking like a tree

I am back to tried-and-tested today but I've been trying to get my head around burgundy cords - can anyone help? I bought them about 6 months ago because I loved them in the shop but now I don't love them. They are boot cut slightly flared and the shape is quite flattering.. I can just about stand wearing them with old skool adidas and a t shirt like a proper 90s indie kid but I don't have any other ideas.. can anyone help?

drspouse · 09/06/2016 10:36

I'm afraid I mainly wear my boot cut cords on Guide camp (jeans get cold when they are wet).

Another 70s style top maybe? Cheesecloth?

I have some other Clothkits kits for my DCs, they come up on Ebay quite often but silly prices, but if I see something cute I do snap it up. The DCs are getting bigger now so I'm not sure how much longer I can go on being cruel. I suspect there was a wider margin of cruel in the 70s.

I feel like I should be taking a home made chicken liver pate and home hewn bread to a Jubilee street party.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 09/06/2016 11:46

Ooh cheesecloth yes good idea!
Ha definitely a VERY wide margin of cruel in the 70s :)

drspouse · 09/06/2016 12:07

This which is hotpants and a baseball cap would definitely come under cruel.
