Just that really. I'm only 35!! But my feet are a bit shot from years of running and a ruptured plantar fascia a few years back. I live in Sketchers memory foam trainers all winter but what can I wear in summer that looks nice but that I can walk in without pain??

I'm not very glamorous, either flats or low kitten/ wedges heels about my limit, I'm also 5'11". I've just been googling orthopedic shoes but that made me feel about 90.

Merrell sandals are very comfortable and have moulded foot-beds designed to take into account a woman's anatomical needs (i.e. her wider hips and the pressure this puts on knees and ankle joints). I have arthritis in one of my feet and I can wear Merrells all day. They tend to be quite sporty styles so they might not be suitable for every occasion, but they're good for casual/holidays/walking: www.merrell.com/UK/en_GB/womens-featured-sandals/

I just got some Kickers sandals. I can't find a shop that has them but I think you can get them from Amazon, or Ebay, or possibly Amazon.fr.

I put them straight on and walked miles and they are ACE.

This sort of thing.

Birkenstocks

Omg they are like heaven. I've worn mine on the school run, on the farm, up mountains in India and they have never let me down. Not overly stylish but I don't care much ... I would live in them, mine are looking sorry after 5 odd years and 8+ months a year usage but I will definatly buy more of them

squoosh · 12/05/2016 16:34

What about these Clarks Alexia sandals? Cushioned sole but nice metallic leather.

It depends on the style. I don't rate the single-strap Birkies because they come off easily. But there are lots of other styles with more straps that stay on better. My fave is Mayari Birko-Flor but there are plenty of other good'uns like Gizeh or the classic two-strap design.

sammy891 · 12/05/2016 18:02

Esska are very good as well

BevyofQuails · 12/05/2016 18:07

These arrived today, they are super comfy :)

Oh dear god I want comfy sandals.

My only experience with Birkenstocks they gave me blisters. Could never wear them in.

I'm a huge Merrell fan .. but not for rocky hikes or on the bike.

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 12/05/2016 18:40

I like yokono sandals, they are like Birkenstocks but with way more choice of styles. They do tons of different heights too. Loads of leather options. I rarely feel the love for sandals, but they do some lovely ones.

NameChange30 · 12/05/2016 18:56

Bevy where are they from? They look like Clarks?

almostthirty · 12/05/2016 18:57

Crocs flip flops and sandals are amazing! On my feet all day and so comfy!

BevyofQuails · 12/05/2016 19:03

They're Hush Puppies. I thought they were the same as the ones LMGTFY was talking about, but they're not Confused

Anyway, Hush Puppies, Bretta Jade. :)

I love my art sandals, they have a shaped sole like Birkenstock but have leather straps to actually hold them on your feet! They are very lightweight too. I would recommend trying them on, I bought mine in treds but I think schu (?) Do them as well, rather than buy online as you need the perfect size. Mine are enjoying their 3rd summer season as well so excellent value.

balkanscot · 12/05/2016 19:23

I really like Saltwaters, after being sceptical for many years (too ugly looking on screen), I was pleasantly surprised how nice they look (and comfortable they feel, despite being drop dead flat). So much so that after getting myself a patent turquoise pair last year, I am eyeing up these tricolour ones.

I also love the fact they are indestructible on/near sandy beaches.

Behooven · 12/05/2016 19:33

I'm not injured or young or old, or need an excuse 🙂I just like comfort - Rieker all the way, I have 3 different pairs, these are my newest...and like the others that took me all through Florence and Pisa - are walking on puffy clouds

Oh dear god I want comfy sandals.

I have plantar fasciitis and am in pain thinking about sandals as the pair I have worn for the last three years fell apart and are no longer made. I need a toe post and something that is not completely flat.

I have bought merrel Albany post and the gladiator buckle ones, super expensive but so far (worn twice each) as OK.

Fit flops made me cry with pain and birkies didn't work for me either.

(I love winter, live in my Sorels, all three pairs from October to March - I live in the mountains so that is allowed! I also have Scarpa trainers for mid seasons)

AgathaMystery · 12/05/2016 21:04

I've got some lovely gold gladiator sandals from M&S kids Blush they go up to a 5!

oobedobe · 12/05/2016 22:29

Also take a look at KEEN sandals on their website, they do smarter leather ones as well as lots of sporty/water type.

I got the Clearwater CNX in the aqua colour for this summer, as I need a study sandal that can also be used for kayaking or paddleboarding.

I love my Birkenstocks! So comfortable couldn't survive summer without them

glassgarden · 12/05/2016 22:35

I like KEEN sandals and keep meaning to get some birkenstocks

Bubble2bubble · 12/05/2016 22:47

My el Naturalista slingbacks arrived today and I love them. Ok not sandals, but quite sandalish...
I have plantar facilitis but they seem to push my arches up in the right place.

Creatureofthenight · 12/05/2016 22:48

I got some lovely sandals from M & S Kids last year Agatha - so comfy!
Why can't they make the women's ones like that?!

glassgarden · 12/05/2016 22:54

I bought a pair of these about 5 years ago, worn them a lot every summer since, lasted really well (expect I had to replace the elastic laces last summer)
