Just that really. I'm only 35!! But my feet are a bit shot from years of running and a ruptured plantar fascia a few years back. I live in Sketchers memory foam trainers all winter but what can I wear in summer that looks nice but that I can walk in without pain??

I'm not very glamorous, either flats or low kitten/ wedges heels about my limit, I'm also 5'11". I've just been googling orthopedic shoes but that made me feel about 90.

I love my Birkenstocks. I wear the Gizeh or Arizona. I do have some Madrid ones but they aren't any good for walking all day in as single strap and you need to grip.

I need new sandals. I had some lovely Birkenstock style ones with X type straps from office last summer but they really rub this year.

I'm lazy and like sandals that just slip off no buckles or straps.

I guess lots of the s&b aficionados would say my style was mumsy so I need to be careful with sandals as ones that people who are more 'on trend'than me can wear in an ironic way and look cool I just look 20 yrs older than my 40yrs.

I LOVE me a gorgeous/fugly sandal!!

I just bought these in gold from M&S and they're lovely, and comfy so far:

I also have some Birkenstocks Mayari on the way so am pleased to hear recs for them Smile

I also vote for Earth Spirit as fugly but v comfy walking/holiday sandals.

polyhymnia · 18/05/2016 12:08

Thanks for the tip on the FF Banda, Chardonnay - I have quite a few comfortable FFs already, but I was wondering about the slim strap on those.

BlueEyeshadow · 18/05/2016 13:03

Earth Spirit do some non-fugly but still comfy sandals too. I live in these ones:

beaded ones

silver strappy

I'm 37 and T1 diabetic (comfortable shoes are a must) and I just bought some Pikolinos Kaye sandals. They're so soft!

RuthyToothy · 18/05/2016 21:40

This thread will bankrupt me! Angry

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 18/05/2016 21:40

My Scholl sandals STILL aren't here

I suppose it is pissing down so I wouldn't be able to wear them anyway but I'm still cross.

My friend was wearing Toms today. Not sandals as such but looked bloody comfy. Anyone with crappy feet got any experience of them?

Oh I love this thread. I have long skinny feet that blister at the drop of a hat, flat feet, hypermobility, plantar fasciitis etc.

I don't like the look of a lot of the sandals linked to, really because they make my canoe feet look longer than ever, but they do look comfy and that's what I really need these days. I've tried a few of the brands on though, and they are too wide. Anyone else with skinny feet found anything comfy?

Acornantics · 18/05/2016 22:25

Merrell every time. I have a gorgeous pair that I wear with everything in the warm weather. They're supportive, very comfy, and not at all in the 'crusty sandal' bracket. Love them.

MathsFiend · 18/05/2016 22:28

Sorry, the hotter shoes up thread are UGLY, and not in a good way.

I just bought these from dune.

rose gold sandals

The sole is really comfy, just seeing if I can wear the straps in a bit. Hopefully they will soften up as I hate it when you get hard straps digging in.

MathsFiend · 18/05/2016 22:42

AAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!

Those fugly hotter sandals are following me! Why did I click on the links, why for the love of God?

flippineck · 18/05/2016 23:02

I have problems with my feet that mean I can't wear anything that isn't attached with a strap (iyswim!), so mules and most Birkenstocks are out - a shame, I loved my Gizehs. I also can't wear anything absolutely flat.

I have these and they are great: these Yokono sandals . They are a tiny bit wide for my narrow-ish feet, but are incredibly comfortable.

Naoko · 18/05/2016 23:11

In this situation last year I went to BHS (because I was also really broke) and tried on every pair of sandals that wasn't utterly fugly. I ended up finding the comfiest pair - soft leather straps behind the heel, over the instep and over the front of the foot, small (1 inch) wedge, soft padded sole. They don't seem to do them any more but looking at the website they have several similar ones so it might be worth a look?

I have hypermobility and ridiculously high arches. I wear orthotics in winter boots but I can't wear knee high boots in high summer so occasionally sacrifice stability for not overheating, hence the sandals. I'd say that with any sort of foot problems that cause you pain a soft, not too thin sole is important, as well as support so you don't have to strain just to keep your shoes on and stay upright.

VenusRising · 18/05/2016 23:20

I wear a lovely clarks pair UN something.
They got me around Rome without even noticing my feet, walking all day.

Also Havaianas espadrilles not the flip flops. They're really super comfy. Comfy enough to play tennis in!

I'm afraid I'm a Hotter hater. But do like the look of some of those Pikolinos. Does everyone who's tried them find them good?

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 19/05/2016 00:03

I've booked a shellac pedicure for tomorrow. I am WILLING those Scholl fuckers in to show them off in.

Went to Hotter yesterday but didn't find anything that wasn't grannyish. Sorry. All the sandals were with velcro and padded soles, not a young look at all. With Clark's if you look hard enough there are nice sandals but I think the target audience of Hotter is much older than my age.

AgathaF · 19/05/2016 11:15

I think you are more likely to look ok in the hotter type sandals if you are young etc. For the middle aged amongst us, they just tend to be aging. Well, they are on me anyway.

I've just this morning ordered a pair of Fitflop Banda slides. I think they will probably be too wide, but if not then they look pretty ok.

parmalilac · 19/05/2016 11:25

Clarks - had their sandals for years, always very comfy, properly supportive and cushioned footbed with arch support which you need with plantar fasc. When I see anyone wearing those wafer-thin ballet flats I can't help thinking they will have foot problems somewhere down the line ...

AmyMumsnet · 19/05/2016 16:11

Hi folks,

We've rounded up your favourite sandals into a handy page over here to help you find a comfy pair for the summer. Let us know if you think we've missed any off.

Happy shopping!

RainbowFlower24 · 19/05/2016 16:19

I have Ecco flash t strap sandal - like wearing slippers. Really great

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 19/05/2016 18:57

I haz shoe newz.

Tada! Arrived today. They are really comfy straps, I've never had straps so soft. I thought the sole would be a bit sponging than it is but round the house they're great. Will try them out tomorrow and report back!

Scholl Bioprint Cindy, £59.

sammy891 · 19/05/2016 22:26

Those red sandals look beautiful!

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 20/05/2016 16:08

Fanks! They're so comfy.

As are.... ... These babies from Hotter! Went past today and popped in purely on the basis of this thread :)

Lots of old lady shoes but also some lovely ones too. They've got three for two so I also got a pair of whitey-gold canvas pump things. Both REALLY comfy.

Thank you thread, I'm going to immediately go and throw away all my old cheap pairs that mangle my poor old feet. Summer, bring it on, I am READY.
