Just that really. I'm only 35!! But my feet are a bit shot from years of running and a ruptured plantar fascia a few years back. I live in Sketchers memory foam trainers all winter but what can I wear in summer that looks nice but that I can walk in without pain??

I'm not very glamorous, either flats or low kitten/ wedges heels about my limit, I'm also 5'11". I've just been googling orthopedic shoes but that made me feel about 90.

josef seibel sandals are the comfiest ive ever had and also hard wearing. Some of them are grannyish, but lots of nice ones

I found some lovely Hush Puppies ones but was put off by the floral print footbed.

marriednotdead · 15/05/2016 22:58

I bought these Josef Siebel sandals recently in TKMaxx but having left it too late to return them, I can't decide if I like them enough or not Confused Both straps are adjustable (Velcro) which was part of the attraction and they seem mega comfy.

JaceLancs · 16/05/2016 00:06

I used to buy Clarks or M n S
More recently I'm liking Esska, Earth Spirit and Reiker - I even verged into Hotter territory - they do occasionally have the odd non frumpy pair
Ecco don't seem a good fit any more for me
I have small narrow feet and blister easily so spend hours looking for the perfect footwear

maxybrown · 16/05/2016 09:16

ok I'm joining this thread too please.

I severely over pronate and have for about 5 years plus, worn Birkenstocks. The ones with the toe post and adjustable strap across.

I also have a thing going on with my toe on my right foot which pretty sure is Capsulitits of the second toe.

So essentially I really need something supportive.

Then all of a suddent last year my Birkenstocks were no longer comfortable. No idea why. I can wear them for about 20 minutes or so but any longer and I have bliasters on the outside edge of my feet and a small one on the inside. I have no idea why this happened it did it with new ones and ones already worn in :(

So last year I bought some Earth Spirit more walking type sandals :/ and yes they were very comfortable. But I still would like something that looks a bit better, sigh.

I am not girly girly at all and Birkenstocks were perfect for me, just no idea why they now give me blisters.

This thread is my fugly sandal home. Smile :o

Thank you, dontyou.

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 16/05/2016 21:58

Don't thank me, I'm relieved it's not just me!!

Scholl ones should hopefully arrive tomorrow and I shall model them for you.

Birkenstocks give me blisters and terrible foot pain too, they're not padded enough underfoot I think. I sound about 80 ffs.

I might accidentally order those Hush Puppies tomorrow. Ssh.

You're not alone. I'm 35 and this year have finally admitted defeat and decided comfort is far more important than style (though I'd prefer both!) I was amazed that virtually all sandals either have towering heels or are so flat that they make my feet ache. I need a small heel or wedge. I even bought two pairs of shoes from Hotter recently despite being 30 years younger than their target market Blush - there really is no hope for me is there?

Threesoundslikealot · 16/05/2016 22:08

I highly recommend Moshulu sandals. I struggle to find comfortable sandals but can even wear wedge heels from there.

Gumbies!

Pipbin · 16/05/2016 22:20

Just joining in here as I'm looking for new sandals. I have two pairs of Merrels which are lovely and one pair of Birkies.
Where is the best place to buy Birkinstocks?

FirstTimeMummy25 · 17/05/2016 04:53

Pip- I brought one pair or Birks from jones the boot makers however I since found them in Tk Max for a hell of a lot cheaper so try there

sammy891 · 17/05/2016 07:25

I bought quite a few pairs of Birkies off Amazon last year, they were quite a bit cheaper than in store.

CuttedUpPear · 17/05/2016 07:40

I have about 5 pairs of Hotter shoes and some boots from Rieker.
I get compliments on them all the time from younger friends. I tell them that my fashion secret is 'old lady shoe shops'. Pick the right shoes and you are laughing

SoThatHappened · 17/05/2016 08:33

Fitflops.

Wonderfully comfy.

Walked from one end of Marrakech to the other in them and no pain.

SoThatHappened · 17/05/2016 08:37

Hush puppies are the most uncomfortable sandals I have ever worn.

Fit flops have a thick bouncy and supportive sole. My feet rarely feel sore in them.

Lots of style too

knowler · 17/05/2016 10:40

FitFlops do a lot of different styles now. I've got a ballet shoe one which is so comfy and looks nice. I don't think you can beat them for overall support and comfort, although I also love skechers.

nickEcave - if you're 'clawing' your foot in Birkenstocks, they don't fit correctly. you should walk without clawing or gripping your toes - this is the point of the ridged soles. I've found them good for plantar fasciitis because if you're wearing birkies properly i.e. no clawing they distribute your weight and pressure correctly across your foot and don't put it all on your heel. they also have good arch support.

gincamelbak · 17/05/2016 18:16

Following because i need new sandals!

sammy891 · 17/05/2016 18:43

CuttedUpPear do you have any pictures of the ones you bought from Hotter? You have convinced me to going to the shop tomorrow to have a look!

RaisingSteam · 18/05/2016 00:30

With Birkenstocks is it the ones with one strap across the toe (Madrid?) that you have to clutch your foot in else they flipflop? I have a style called Mayari which have a sort of diagonal strap arrangement and they are really comfortable for a non-trekking sandal.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 18/05/2016 09:07

I'd be careful with some of the fit flops, The Banda can be very uncomfortable. it's the way the slim strips are placed.
