No on can seriously think the carrot thing comes from your thigh being bigger than your calf!!

I've a glimmer of a thigh gap (in as much as my thighs don't meet but the gap isn't big). In the interest of this thread I measure the widest part of both thigh and calf. 20cm difference.

Carrot jeans are named so because when lain flat the legs resemble the shape of a carrot, wider and the top and then taperingndoen to the ankle. Nothing to do with the shape of your legs!

Yes, skinnies outline my natural shape but I expect my clothes to work harder than that. The skinnies of around ten years ago weren't so bad - they were more relaxed in the leg and weren't stuffed with lycra. But the current crop just leave me nowhere to hide.

Of course flares/bootcuts aren't universally flattering but at least they come in different shapes and cuts so I can play around with proportion and width. And they take the focus away from my thighs. It's all smoke and mirrors but that's what flattering clothes are meant to do.

Having said all that, I'm not rushing back to them as I don't wear heels and I don't think they work nearly so with flats. Plus they're useless in the rain. At the moment I'm back in some old straightlegs and some relaxed skinnies of yesteryear. (This is why I will never have a capsule wardrobe!)

I think this is a good time for jeans as there is a choice in the shops and it probably won't last so we should enjoy it.

All I really any from a pair of jeans is zero lycra. Why can't they just be cotton without any stretch? If I wanted leggings that literally cling to the very shape of you, I'd buy them.

Buy some Levi 501s. They're 100% cotton.

I have pretty athletic legs (not complaining), and some skinnies make me look like I'm wearing running tights. I need to get the proper jean/denim ones rather than jeggings.

Floisme - there are lots of relaxed skinnies around. I have two Whistles pairs, bought from the Next clearance bit (but I still prefer the old Next ones).

Thanks Prima. I like Whistles so I'll take a look though I'll probably hold my nerve until the next sale! I liked the old Next relaxed skinnies too but I didn't think they wore very well - got very saggy.

Today I'm wearing Gap skinnies from about 8 years ago - they're pretty much identical in cut to girlfriends.
