I have a beautiful but 'now relegated to decorating' pair of Gap long and lean 34" leg and I adore them, with their slight boot cut and waist height waist.

Sadly it seems no one else does as they're discontinued. As a 5ft11 pear, they are simply the most flattering jeans I've ever had.

SausagesAndLaughter · 05/04/2016 16:44

Tailored boot cuts can look very flattering, especially if you have long legs. I can never find any suitable ones, though. It's wall-to-wall skinnies in my local high street.

MsBojangles · 05/04/2016 16:47

MIH Marrakesh are incredible for us tallies, the inseam is a ridiculous 36" - I have to wear them with wedges.

Autumn2014 · 05/04/2016 16:58

I can never get the length right so they soak up puddles. Standard is too long, but short is too long. I think this is why I didn't wear jeans until my 30s and when skinny jeans came in. Can you get jeans shortened?

BoatyMcBoat · 05/04/2016 17:14

DD(16) will only wear bootcut (well, maybe flares sometimes).

She scorns those awful skinny things which are almost universally hideous on both males and femals. I wish everyone else would too.

AliciaMayEmory · 05/04/2016 17:23

I look awful in bootcut jeans and find straight legs and skinnies much more flattering. I'm tall and so getting the le vth right is one problem, plus I find them baggy round the thighs which looks wrong, or if they do fit my thigh then the bit that flares out looks flappy. So I gave up and wear skinnies with boots and straight leg rolles up with everything else.

Sadik · 05/04/2016 17:24

Where does your dd get her bootcuts, Boaty? (skinny hating teenager here too)

I'm not sure I'd call my combats stylish Grin but I'm not sure they particularly look my thighs look big - they're just kinda baggy. I'm thinking this sort of style.

MitzyLeFrouf · 05/04/2016 17:28

Sadik I've never clicked on such a horrific link Sad

You could have given me a proper warning!

Tanaqui · 05/04/2016 17:52

Gap Long and Lean were amazing 😢

I was watching that Back in time for the Weekend programme, and in the 90s episode they had the teen daughter in combats and a tight vest- and it did look good and I can see it coming back!

Sadik · 05/04/2016 18:02

Grin Mitzy. I think we might possibly have different tastes in clothing (though to be fair I tried to link to traditional olive green, rather than bright red).

MitzyLeFrouf · 05/04/2016 18:07

I will graciously admit the olive green aren't as alarming as the red! Wink

And yep, I bet that look will come back Tanaqui.

pointythings · 05/04/2016 19:24

I have never worn anything but boot cut. I am almost 6 feet tall and not skinny. Skinnies are not for me. Straight legs just don't feel right. It's boot cut all the way. Now just to find some that are long enough and don't cost the earth. And are black.

Gwenhwyfar · 05/04/2016 19:28

I think bootcut jeans with a fitted top look good. The problem is when I look at photos of myself in my big winter coat and wearing the bootcuts. I look untidy somehow.

hugoagogo · 05/04/2016 20:43

They are certainly no good for chunky short arses like me.

skinnies don't work for me either.

I always wear straight legs.

BabyGanoush · 05/04/2016 21:01

I sometimes feel that sticking to a jeans-type that was fashionable 10 or 20 years ago is a bit like those women I pitied, in the late 90s.... The ones that decided to stick with blue eye shadow and Lady Di haircuts..... Because it "suited" them.

Shock

Are 90s bootcuts the blue eye shadow of the 80s?!

Yseulte · 05/04/2016 21:13

You seem to have missed the fact that flares are in fashion right now, so this is not about sticking to something from the past but going forward with changing trends.

You could argue that sticking to skinnies is the same phenomenon. I agree with pps who say there are a lot of women wearing skinnies who don't suit them.

Lweji · 05/04/2016 21:36

My 11 year old only wears the closest we could find to combats. He needs the big pockets.
I have a pair of combats from my pregnancy waiting for their turn.

BoatyMcBoat · 05/04/2016 21:48

Sadik mainly ebay, she says.

twistyfennel · 05/04/2016 21:59

I look like a parsnip in skinny jeans (big arse, big thighs, skinny legs below that). Just no way. There's a point where no matter how fashionable something is you just can't look good in it. I'd rather look like an unfashionable leek than a fashionable parsnip.

Straight leg jeans, IME, aren't that at all - they taper just as much as skinnies but just do it while clinging less - hello, baggy parsnip.

PrimalLass · 05/04/2016 22:02

She scorns those awful skinny things which are almost universally hideous on both males and femals. I wish everyone else would too.

Nope. I look better in skinnies, but they have to be the right ones.

Trills · 05/04/2016 22:23

Some people look better in skinny jeans.

Some people look better in bootcuts.

Jeans that are the wrong size or wrong length are obviously wrong and not to be used to damn a whole style.

Anyone who claims that any style of jean is universally unflattering should be ignored forever and banned from Style&Beauty,.

Trills · 05/04/2016 22:23

I miss Gap Long & Lean too.

I gave a pair to the charity shop just last week because I finally admitted that they would never ever fit me again.

Higge · 05/04/2016 22:25

I feel frumpy in bootcuts - I don't like the way they look - I don't the like skinny knee, fat ankle look...I quite like the way the cropped boot cut look on model types but they look like shit on me.
Happy for other people to wear them though - don't get the insistence that they suit everyone or the desire some people seem to have to insist everyone wears the same style of jeans.

Xmasbaby11 · 05/04/2016 22:29

I think they look OK on me, but at a size 20, I'm never going to be wearing skinny jeans!

didireallysaythat · 05/04/2016 22:32

On me, they make the only thin part of my legs, namely my ankles, look chunky too. Not a good look.
