Have just seen this photo (on a v highbrow news website, ahem) of the uber stylish Diane Kruger in what appear to be bootcuts!

I get how they can look good in winter, with the right boot, but I have never really been convinced by a summer bootcut. Foot/ankle cleavage looks better with a skinny or flare, to me.

ImogenTubbs · 05/04/2016 13:59

I buy Gap Perfect Boot jeans again and again. I am 6ft tall and a size 16 and they are the only jeans that don't make my legs look like triangles. They are spot on for me.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 05/04/2016 14:02

I must admit that my frenemy someone I know only wears boot cuts, one inch too short, with a blocky heel ankle boot and a fleece. It puts me off no end.

MattDillonsPants · 05/04/2016 14:10

Oh you're all making me want boot cuts again! Aren't flares back anyway? Can I have some of those?

Tate15 · 05/04/2016 14:11

I hate bootcut jeans! My ex used to wear them and he looked ridiculous and my attemtps to steer him away failed!

They look ok on me but straight leg or skinny look much better.

LordoftheTits · 05/04/2016 14:14

I really, really hate them and live in super skinny ankle grazer jeans. If I can comfortably bend my legs to sit down, they need another blast in the tumble drier Grin

My mum wears bootcut and they make her look short and wide.

JanTheJam · 05/04/2016 14:34

I'm 5'5", hourglass shape with a long torso.

I've yet to find a pair of bootcuts that don't make my thighs huge and my ankles the same size. Not a good look.

Glorious on the lovely long limbed Rosie H-w

Purplepicnic · 05/04/2016 14:40

Nothing worse than a bootcut that's too short though. Length is everything.

BennyTheBall · 05/04/2016 14:45

They look great on the long and lean, but what doesn't?

They are extremely unflattering on most people and wearing them with heels boots puts them firmly in frumpdom.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 05/04/2016 14:48

I lived in bootcut in the 90's and noughties! I remember having a bit of a shouty conversation with my mum about the length though. She though that for practicalities sake I should lop off a good few inches of each so they were almost ankle swingers. I preferred letting them trail oh so fashionably on the floor to get slowly mangled.
In hindsight we were both wrong. However, after nearly two hellish years of tough dieting I now have a pair of legs worthy of skinny jeans - is there a chance they're heading out of fashion? Gah.

Twinklestein · 05/04/2016 14:52

Totally disagree. Skinnies are the most unflattering of all jeans unless you're super thin. The majority of women wearing skinnies would actually look better in something less unforgiving imo.

Sadik · 05/04/2016 14:55

Not big on jeans myself (still waiting for combats to come back into fashion), but I think bootcut definitely look good on most people.

If anyone can point me towards a good pair of bootcut jeans to fit a 14 year old girl, I'd be very grateful - dd won't wear skinnies, or skinny flares, and bootcuts for that age are a nightmare to find.

Twinklestein · 05/04/2016 14:57

I don't see that it has to be either/or.

I wear skinnies, boyfriends and flares - bell bottom and bootcut.

MitzyLeFrouf · 05/04/2016 15:00

I agree with Twinkle that for your average punter skinny jeans are a much more challenging garment to pull off than bootcut, purely because there's nowhere to hide. I wonder how many people 20 years from now when looking at photos of themselves from 2015 will shake their head sadly and whisper to themselves 'but why did no-one tell me I looked like a denim clad root vegetable?'

MitzyLeFrouf · 05/04/2016 15:02

But I must say I do enjoy looking back and chortling at my sartorial choices of yore. Flicking through photo albums must be very dull for people who were born with innate style and have only ever worn taupe or greige.

Not for them the joy/horror of a t-shirt that changed colour as you sweated!

Lweji · 05/04/2016 15:02

How about these Levi's www.levi.com/US/en_US/womens-jeans/p/196450006 ? Or these www.levi.com/US/en_US/womens-jeans/p/095900066 ?
They can't be worse than skinnies. www.levi.com/US/en_US/womens-jeans/p/196430001

BennyTheBall · 05/04/2016 15:09

Yikes, all of those Levi's jeans look horrific.

Lweji · 05/04/2016 15:12

It's for the purpose of comparison between styles. :)

BennyTheBall · 05/04/2016 15:14

I know - I think it's the shirt tucked in thing that renders them so very awful.

Lurkedforever1 · 05/04/2016 15:15

denim clad root vegetable Grin

I think some people are perceiving the way boot cuts work the wrong way round. For most people, it isn't that they show your thighs as they are, but also make your ankles look as wide. It's the other way, it makes your thighs look smaller, and your legs therefore look more in proportion.

Skinnies however just amplify the width of your thigh compared to your ankle.

diddl · 05/04/2016 15:16

Ooh, don't know what's going on but I can't see those links Lweji, it just flicks back to this thread!Confused

Lweji · 05/04/2016 15:18

Try them like this:

bootcut1
bootcut 2
skinnies

But they work on my computer.

MitzyLeFrouf · 05/04/2016 15:19

This is my favourite skinny jeans photo.

Poor fella looks strangulated. And as for his own root vegetable, well it can't be comfy in there!

"For some people, it isn't that they show your thighs as they are, but also make your ankles look as wide" and for some people it is.

Your thighs will look the size they are.
