I know it might seem like we've nothing left to say but I'm sure we have :)

I have to tell you: Seville a l'Aube is on the TK Maxx website for half price - lots of other L'Artisan perfumes but that one is very special and I wore nothing else all summer!

SOTD: Cuir de Russie. Like a fuzzy hug with vague undertones of marauding Cossacks from the 19th century.

I have also tried the Yves Saint Laurent now. I think it's a bit modern for his tastes although I like it.

I'm warming to the Sisley now though. But I know I have no good ability to detect anything other than the top notes with men's perfume.

getoffthattabletnow · 07/01/2016 13:45

Oh no Battleaxe I didn't read your message properly.
The Campagne is that price!
So sorry.
The one you want is at BeautySpin for £50+.

MissBattleaxe · 07/01/2016 13:47

That OK getoff, I just googled and FragranceX has some for under £45. Smile

getoffthattabletnow · 07/01/2016 13:51

The last time I ordered from Fragrance X I had a £20 customs bill.
Never again will I order from them.My bottle of perfume with the £20 added up to over £70 which was the standard price for a Serge Lutens .

FrustratedFrugal · 07/01/2016 14:19

Ilovetosleep of course you can wear Elixir. When you see your friend, you'll switch to something else, but the signature thing is a marketing cliche anyway (probably aimed to make one a repeat customer).

Years ago, the girlfriend of my good friend started wearing 'my' perfume. I felt weird for a moment, then started wearing something else - and discovered lots of lovely things. She probably unwittingly enabled my perfume obsession Wink And we all are still great friends.

I have a perfumista friend who is into very subtle barely-there scents, Olfactive Studio and Osmanthe Yunnan for example.

Hello everyone, happy new year to my favourite thread to lurk on!

You will all be pleased to hear that I spent a lovely 2 hours with my 12 yr old dd in duty free yesterday marching her round and introducing her to perfumes. (I had a thread just before Christmas when I asked you all to recommend me an orangey fragrance for a young teen- I went for Fragonard in the end because it was half price!)

After much deliberating she plumped for My Burberry which obv did nothing for me (the assistant and I spent ages discussing how perfumes seem somehow to be very much of their time and place)

I got a bottle of my old faithful Chanel 19 but walked round in a cloud of L'heure blu (so reminded me of someone, but can't think who) and Black Orchid (which I think might be my Next Big Thing) I had a go at Coromandel as have been in love with the name forever, and initially I thought eeeeeuw but as the evening wore on kept getting the card out and sniffing it, and by the time my plane landed I was virtually licking it it smelt so good. Grin

FrustratedFrugal · 07/01/2016 14:31

Thenlater the first 15 minutes of Coromandel are hellish, but its afterglow is great.

-23 C here today! Cold enough for heavyhitters like Coco or Coromandel!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 07/01/2016 14:34

Yes! I actually went "eeuuuuuuuw" out loud, much to the amusement of the assistant. He said "wait, just wait, it'll be OK!"

TheToys · 07/01/2016 14:35

Keep warm! Im now back in Scotland with a relatively balmy +3. Grin

HipHopOpotomus · 07/01/2016 14:47

I've just received, via post, 7 x 2.5 ml spray vials of the 4160 Tuesdays "Crimes of Passion" series they crowdfunded last year - not tried any of them yet so an exciting few days ahead. (on special offer for £20 - www.4160tuesdays.com/4160tuesdaysscentshop/prod_3950385-Seven-Small-Crimes.html)

They also sent me a sample of a new fragrance to be launched later this year "Sex Goddess" - which is a little modern softer version of YSL's Paris, to me, though it is still developing on me.

Can't wait to try MAXED OUT tomorrow - it's based on a hedonistic NY party :) From the description (rum, coconut, lime, tobacco, coffee, cannabis essential oil, musk, vanilla) it sounds right up my strasse.

Love her inspirations.

(I'm on thread earlier but have NC)

OwlCurrency · 07/01/2016 16:10

I got the Sisley in the end. It was £55 for 50ml.

I haven't handed it over yet. I'll let you all know the reaction.

Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate it. I wouldn't have never stuck with it without encouragement.

cardoon · 07/01/2016 17:08

How do you say the 4160 bit.....I have 2 (ealing green and last summer) and I don't know how to say it when anyone asks what it is Confused

MissBattleaxe · 07/01/2016 17:13

I say four one six oh, but someone else i know says forty one sixty. I have met Sarah and will probably meet her again this year- I shall ask her!

cardoon · 07/01/2016 17:32

Ooh yes and ask her what it means - I say it like you for the moment

hollinhurst84 · 07/01/2016 17:34

SOTD is 4160 Tuesday's New York 55
I smell like strawberries and candy floss Grin

getoffthattabletnow · 07/01/2016 17:43

It means the average person has 4160 tuesdays to make a difference assuming a normal lifespan.Don't know how to pronounce the number though.

MissBattleaxe · 07/01/2016 18:00

I love New York 55. I have a full bottle of that one.

I have to say, I didn't like some of her earlier stuff at all, but this new stuff is fantastic. I've been trying the Crimes of Passion range and they are amazing.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 07/01/2016 18:48

i have a box full of small handbag size 4160 stuff and now three full bottles: babylon sunset, rome 1963 and the dark heart of old havana (which i actually won in a competition of theirs on fb)

MrsCocoa · 07/01/2016 21:16

Have smelt Sex Goddess and thought it was much more 'classical' in its construction than other 4160's I've tried. The latest sample set sounds fab. I have a bottle of Paris 1948 which I like, but tend to layer with other people's drier, mossier chypres (the peach notes overwhelm the oakmoss on me).

Battleaxe - that's funny, I have a 6 year old DS too, but he lets me choose which of my perfumes he gets to wear on the school run (he usually wants to smell like me)! I'm not sure he has ever made anyone faint though.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 07/01/2016 21:22

my 4160 parcel arrived today and oh how i love it. they kindly put in four 4ml handbag sizes as well, they are always generous with things like that and the hand written notes are always a lovely touch. one of the small sizes i was sent was new york 1955 which i haven't tried before and it is absolutely lovely, candy floss, sugar, something creamy that i can't quite place. it smells fun and i thinkit will be perfect for when it starts warming up, to be worn with sandals, sundresses and big floppy hats

Stokey · 08/01/2016 08:48

Sometime poster here, inspired now & then to add my two cents Grin

I really want to love 4160 Tuesdays but they just don't seem to last well on my skin. I got the new Red Roses one on Black Friday and love it at first sniff but within a couple of hours I can barely smell it. But do love their personal touch, and wore the Sex Goddess sample on NYE. Anyone else have problems with their longevity?

I just got a couple of samples from Scentsamples, they seem good value. I got Portrait of a Lady as want a FB but can't justify it while I'm not working & Tauer L'air du desert Morocain. They sent me the EDT rather than perfume of LADDM - I probably ordered it wrong - but it's still amazing, lasts all day.

Has anyone on here tried Orlov perfume? It seems to be a new house by Dominick Ripon.

MissBattleaxe · 08/01/2016 09:51

Goddess of Love and Perfume is my favourite 4160, along with Raw Silk and Red Roses. I'm also rather partial to Fruits of the Tree of Knowledge ( aka What Katie Did on Friday Night), much to my surprise as it contains loads of notes I would normally avoid, but its like "tart cherry jam" and I love it.

handslikecowstits · 08/01/2016 10:03

I was bought Assam Oudh from Crabtree and Evelyn for Christmas. www.crabtree-evelyn.co.uk/collections/night-garden/assam-oudh-eau-de-parfum-100ml-80433.html It wasn't cheap but it's lovely. I hate sweet feminine scents for winter and this is spicy without being too woody or smoky.

I wear French Lime Blossom by Jo Malone in summer. www.jomalone.co.uk/product/3586/9990/Fragrances/Colognes/Light-Floral/French-Lime-Blossom-Cologne/French-Lime-Blossom-Cologne#

MissBattleaxe · 08/01/2016 10:06

Hi Stokey, I find 4160 last pretty well. She also does extrait versions which will REALLY last.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 08/01/2016 10:13

stokey i find some of them a bit fleeting but then there's others which stick like glue and i can still smell the next day if i shower in the morning rather than the night before. i think it just depends on the individual make up of each one
