I know it might seem like we've nothing left to say but I'm sure we have :)

I have to tell you: Seville a l'Aube is on the TK Maxx website for half price - lots of other L'Artisan perfumes but that one is very special and I wore nothing else all summer!

SOTD: Cuir de Russie. Like a fuzzy hug with vague undertones of marauding Cossacks from the 19th century.

Paris 1948 ans Shamzam! are definitely worth a sniff from 4160 tuesdays, especially if you like chyrpes/orientals. i especially love paris 1948, lovely to keep catching whiffs of it through the day

CointreauVersial · 06/01/2016 13:24

Cresset - well, that's shaken me to the very core; a domestic dilemma not solved by PigletJohn...Shock

MrsC - yes, my Pichola is from a Discovery box. I'm not sure I've tried the 1805, but I'll dig it out for tomorrow - interesting to see if I love or hate it.

SOTD is another Discovery Box sample - Penhaligon's Malabah. Oh, I do like this one, very wearable soft spiciness.

MissBattleaxe · 06/01/2016 13:39

My new favourite 4160 Tuesdays scent is Raw Silk and Red Roses. It blew me away. I adore it.

OwlCurrency · 06/01/2016 13:45

Would anyone be able to help me find a scent for a man?

My DP wears a particular one. The new bottle he has smells like a toilet compared to his old one and I'd love to find a new replacement.

Can anyone help?

cressetmama · 06/01/2016 14:15

Yes, Cointreau, ditto! But I may have a cunning plan involving a moulding material that hardens..........

Sunrise, I have just re-jigged my pages having been confused by the new look MNet masthead and see from just before Xmas that Unspoken came from your Crystal Flacon haul. I may have to venture over there, just for a look-see of course, in the name of educating my olfactories. Interested to understand what made you choose it.

I was confusing 1805 with 1270 Frapin, which I recall liking. Must sniff it again soon.

MissBattleaxe · 06/01/2016 16:53

OwlCurrency. Can you give some more clues? Does he have a favourite?

OwlCurrency · 06/01/2016 18:18

Haha, I forgot to mention the name! That's not going to help, is it?

It Versace L'Homme. The bottle is nearly empty, so I'm guessing it was purchased some years ago. He does have another bottle, but it doesn't smell the same.

Google says basil is one of the top notes, which we both really like. I know Guerlain do a lovely perfume for women that has basil, but I'm hopeless at choosing one for men. I find them so overpowering to start with that I always choose something boring in the development.

MissBattleaxe · 06/01/2016 19:02

The Guerlain you speak of is either Herba Fresca or Mandarine Basilic- both lovely.

Back to your husband-

Try this one www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Maurer-Wirtz/4711-Acqua-Colonia-Blood-Orange-Basil-8700.html

or this one (also called L'Homme) as it has basil in www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Yves-Saint-Laurent/L-Homme-734.html

Or try Italian Cypress by Tom Ford

FrustratedFrugal · 06/01/2016 19:19

Have just found this lovely perfume diary...

OwlCurrency · 06/01/2016 20:05

Yes, Mandarine Basilic is the one I mean. It's like a garden in the spring. So simple and crisp. Not quite right for January though.

I haven't heard of Italian Cyprus. Maybe a bit difficult to get hold of. It looks lovely though. I haven't disliked a Tom Ford yet, so I might try that for a birthday.

I can try the Yves Saint Laurent one tomorrow. It's for a cheer-up-it's-January gift rather than a big thing, but I want it to be right. The last perfume I bought him was a bit babyish. I don't know what I was thinking in the shop.

OwlCurrency · 06/01/2016 20:06

Oh, and thank you! Lots to try!

cressetmama · 07/01/2016 09:52

SoTD is Lady Vengeance. It sounds fierce, but is a gorgeous red rose. Not my kind of thing at all, but I am yearning for warmth and sun instead of rain and wind.

getoffthattabletnow · 07/01/2016 10:20

Owlcurrency Sisley's Eau de campagne would be a good one for your Dh to try.Strong bitter greens with basil and tomato leaf and Oakmoss.I adore it but its a fairly masculine Scent whilst being Unisex.
Annick Goutal's Songes Eau de Parfum today.Such a sunny, warm, rich floral suitable for yet another rainy day.I'm looking forward to the prospective cold weather so I can wear my Winter perfumes like Battito D Ali ,Dark Amber and Ginger Lily and Lubins Akkad.

TheToys · 07/01/2016 10:38

So, verdict of Bois Farine. I like it, although for perfection (IMO) it could do with a touch of more leather and rum or brandy sweetness. As it is, it smells like an old, dusty library room with old wooden and leather furniture.

Also bought a fairly bargainous bottle of one of my faves, Teint de Neige, recently and wore it yesterday. It's strangely gourmand even with all the powder. Somewhat like loukhoum. DS demanded I spray some of the "vanilla perfume" on him and then proceeded to ask for topups, which I declined to give him ( bit too expensive!).

cressetmama · 07/01/2016 12:02

How old is your DS Toys? You are clearly getting him trained up early.

OwlCurrency · 07/01/2016 13:00

I have a Sisley counter just down the road from me actually. Might pop down this afternoon and have a look...

I'll report back!

MissBattleaxe · 07/01/2016 13:07

I was thinking of the Sisley too, but its way over the budget. They are very pricey aren't they? Shame really because I love Eau de Soir.

TheToys · 07/01/2016 13:14

DS is 6. Yes, he loves fragrances in everything and offers fun and accurate descriptions of the components. Maybe he could be the next Ellena! :D

MissBattleaxe · 07/01/2016 13:17

I have a six year old DS as well Toys and sometimes I let him choose my SOTD. I always wear whatever he chooses no matter what. Sometimes I have made people faint on the school run.

cressetmama · 07/01/2016 13:21

Grin Battleaxe. Not sure which image made me laugh most: fainting school run mums/teachers or asphyxiated canaries.

OwlCurrency · 07/01/2016 13:27

I have just tried the Sisley. I found it a bit peppery. I'd love to try it on him, but then he'd be onto me.

I was recommended Vetiver by the lady in the shop. I preferred it at first, but it is a bit flat on a further sniff. It's very toothpaste fresh.

TheToys · 07/01/2016 13:35

DS chooses for me sometimes too. He chooses by looking at the bottles, so it's not an exact science at all.. I've had on a light citrus cologne in December rain, and an insence monster for trip to the library and coop... He adores flower smells the most. Especially rose, which I think is a bit strange. But nice, of course!

getoffthattabletnow · 07/01/2016 13:37

MissBattleaxe its on sale in AllBeauty for arround £37.I am cross because I was waiting for months for a reduction and ended up buying it at the duty free shop

MissBattleaxe · 07/01/2016 13:37

You're kidding? It was over £100 last time I looked it up! Thanks for the tip!

ilovetosleep · 07/01/2016 13:39

I just want to de lurk and say hello, I love reading about all your perfumes. I have always worn perfume here and there but only in the last few months really started to get into it and I got loads for Christmas :) But I am still mostly clueless and I find a lot of the niche stuff just too strong - I think I am much more sensitive to strong smells that other people eg my brother who is completely obsessed with perfume, he puts his nose right up to his wrist to smell something new whereas I literally have to just walk past him if he's tested something new and it can be quite overpowering.

Anyway I'm here to ask your opinion on signature scent etiquette! I have totally fallen for a perfume that I have known and loved for years on a good friend of mine, sadly we are no longer living anywhere near each other and see each other about once a year. I went into a perfume store recently and sprayed some of it on me and just had to have it, now I want to wear it all day everyday. But it is just so her, I don't think she'll ever wear anything different and we do have mutual friends. I think it smells different on me anyway but maybe thats just me. I feel so guilty! Is this a big no no? The perfume btw is Elixir des Merveilles. I have worn it out twice now and I feel like it is mine already ;)

(My other new bottles are Tom Ford Santal Blush, Jo Malone Intense Cologne miniature set, Samsara, and Michael Kors Sexy Amber which I also LOVE but HATE the branding and the name, which I know is irrational but I feel quite strongly about it!)
