Hoping link to previous thread works!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2320549-Ashamed-of-my-beauty-product-hoard?pg=1

Continuation of the thread where I realised I was not alone in my hoarding of all things make-up/beauty/skincare/toiletries.

Lots of lovely mumsnetters who encourage each other to use and enjoy all those lovely products, and at the same time try to reduce our spending on unnecessaries!

I fell off the wagon again... Bought Vit C skin capsules and Vit E cream in Body Shop Sale... And my ebay purchases of First Aid Beauty pads, cream and cleanser arrived!
Obe wan Kenobi you are our only hope...

I've done two thrifty things that feel strangely satisfying.

My favorite everyday lipstick from Kiko broke. I was able to replant it into an empty Chanel lipstick tube I've been unable to throw out. Perfect fit, it works again, and it is a close match of the original shade.

I remolded scraps of soap by first grating them with a cheese grater, then microwaving them with a few tsp of water. I made a pretty marbled soap ball that I will use in my bathroom. I put fresh new bars of soaps in the other bathrooms. My stash is getting used up!

FiveShelties · 08/01/2016 15:57

Well done FrustratedFrugal very impressive.

I have finished a small hand soap, only around 50+ to go. Natio Day Face Cream sample also gone. I would like all this stuff to be used up in the next year which looks like I need to finish something every other day! And of course that means no purchases sneaking their way in.

Ememem84 · 08/01/2016 17:28

So close to finishing clarins hand cream. Took it into work to put on my desk. It looks fancy. And the soap in the ladies is very drying.

So close.

Am hoping to finish it next week. Then get back to my grapefruit and honey one.

Paperblank · 08/01/2016 17:35

Ememem I love the smell of that handcream. It's gorgeous Grin

Kwick709 · 09/01/2016 12:42

frustratedfrugal - very impressive!

I am over the moon to have just finished Clarins Beauty Flash Balm - will not be repurchasing! I think this one was a gift but is about 7 years old... So I am probably killing my skin as we speak.

I am still planning on cancelling my glossybox subscription as soon as I get my free box.

Part of my beauty purchase bonanza is that I still only 41 years on have not found a shampoo and conditioner that I actually like... So I buy, start, y discard... i generally pass on to others so they are not using up space in my compact but bijou flat!

Ememem84 · 09/01/2016 13:24

I couldn't stand the smell of the clarins flash balm. Eugh. I think I've got a tube to use up Sad

Ememem84 · 14/01/2016 19:24

Clarins hand cream finished. Yippee. Will rebuy but have about a gazillion other brands to use up first

Paperblank · 15/01/2016 07:48

Oh dear....I've been bad...

Popped into Boots yesterday and couldn't resist a couple of sanctuary bargains. I've justified these purchases in my mind as

  1. I do use everything in the gift sets anyway
  2. I don't count shower gel/bubble bath/ soap etc because they are essentials
  3. I'm on Mat Leave as of next month so I've saved money (clutching at strawsGrin)

Back to being frugal!!

FiveShelties · 15/01/2016 10:54

M & S Body Moisturiser gone - no need to replace, well not in the next five years anyway.

FrustratedFrugal · 15/01/2016 16:30

I have three lipsticks that are nearly finished. Hoping to use them up this year.

I have three bottles of shampoo left, but have used up all crappy ones. And I got no toiletries for Christmas Grin

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 15/01/2016 17:04

I've finally finished a tube of hand cream I've been working on for ages. Another one almost finished too.

Paperblank · 15/01/2016 17:33

lego I am planning to have used up the hand cream on my desk by the time I go on mat leave in 3 weeks. If I have to give everyone in the building a splodge of handcream I will use it up!

Kwick709 · 15/01/2016 20:21

Congrats to all user uppers! I am afraid to say that I am plotting my next onslaught of Boots purchasing - I am dying to try some Lee Stafford products and they have a sale on... also need to stock up on some essentials

I am still going strong on using up my samples.

FrustratedFrugal · 15/01/2016 20:22

Have finished a mini Neutrogena Norwegian hand cream from my travel pouch. I look like a butler, will wear white cotton gloves to bed! Have a full-size one plus a LRP hand cream as backups.

FiveShelties · 16/01/2016 10:49

L'Oreal Revitalift Sample used up and a Herbal Essences Conditioner gone.

Hippywannabe · 16/01/2016 11:48

New name for the new year, I have finally thrown away an empty huge tresemme shampoo and a hair thickener, almost at an end of one of the thirty or so shower gels ...

Kwick709 · 16/01/2016 11:58

Well done fiveshelties! Were they any good? I used up a sample of loreal youth code night - which was really moisturising.

So I am having quite a good use up day:

  • Wella sachet hair conditioner (post hair dye 30 days) felt nourishing
  • Clinique moisture surge gel-creme: really nice texture and feels very moisturising - first Clinique product I have used in over 15 years!
  • Vichy Liftaciv advanced filler sample - just started but I love this stuff so it will be gone in a jiffy
  • Stella soft body milk - I love the smell but the bottle is really annoying - very hard to get last dregs out!
  • Whitegrape hand & body lotion - okay but not the best hand cream I have used
FiveShelties · 16/01/2016 14:06

Yes kwick709 I did like the L'Oreal Sample - I have a couple more in the pile, surprise surprise. The conditioner smelt really fresh and I would buy it again - I hardly have any conditioner left so will actually have to purchase something I need soon. Smile

Paperblank · 16/01/2016 14:38

Have finished my Laura Geller Balance and Brighten Sad I have found my holy grail everyday foundation in that!

I will definitely re-purchase but before I do I have a few liquid foundations to use up. Still searching for a holy grail liquid foundation...

FrustratedFrugal · 17/01/2016 07:34

Have used up a full-size Wella hairspray. The product is terrific for my fine, listless hair. I had a half full replacement in the back corner of the bathroom cupboard but its mechanism is broken and I wasn't able to fix it - so relying on a travel spray now and I am actually allowed to buy a replacement Shock

A few months ago when we moved house, my toiletries cupboard was so full that I had to move DC's bath toys and store some of my hair stuff elsewhere. I still have a couple of extra styling products and quite a few conditioners and shower gels/ face cleansers downgraded to shower gels, but everything fits on one shelf!

Have also found an old tube of Revlon Skinlights. I've come to a conclusion that matte makeup does absolutely nothing for me (my dry skin is naturally matte, I need some glow), but want to use up a matte blush, and they look really pretty layered.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 17/01/2016 18:29

Finished a ck perfume and a balance me face wash. Unfortunately I'm liking the Chanel cream I mentioned previously, goes on and sinks in lovely, but it's a bit pricey for me! I think il write the name down in a notebook and see what position I'm in once I've used up everything else.

IPokeBadgers · 18/01/2016 11:47

Finished an Una Brennan Superfacialist Vitamin C Exfoliator and a Clarins Melting Gel cleanser. Loved both of these, find them not too harsh on my skin, so will repurchase in the future. But have so many cleansers in the stockpile [Liz Earle and Elemis amongst others] it won't be for a while.

Oh, and a Garnier 5 second blur primer which I really liked, thought it made the foundation go on/stay on well, so will probably repurchase that as well.

Acquired a few things in the run-up to Christmas so wont be buying any shower gel for the foreseeable future. But have been quite pleased that I have resisted a few QVC TSVs, and also that I have stopped hoarding shampoo and conditioner.....

I too am planning a run on Boots for things that I have genuinely run out of. Some of the products above are on the list in case I decide to try and make a minimum spend to get bonus card points. There are two lists actually: on one side are products that I need/know I love and will definitely use: I am allowed to consider buying these.

The other side of the page is a list of DO NOT BUY. This currently includes Cleansers (7+), body lotions (3+), shower gels (9), eyeshadow palettes {too many to count), perfume (10+) and handcream (5+) etc

It seems a bit drastic but hopefully it will help me focus when I do go into boots.

oh, and Paperblank you get a pass for stocking up on "essentials" before you begin your Mat Leave....If I were you, I would chuck in a few luxury items as well with the plan for you to enjoy them when you are feeling cruddy and penniless a few months in Wink

Another Revitalist Sachet gone and a pack of Face Wipes from Superdrug gone. I don't often use the wipes but like them when I am being too lazy in the evening to cleanse properly. No need to replace, more in the cupboard.
