Hoping link to previous thread works!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/2320549-Ashamed-of-my-beauty-product-hoard?pg=1

Continuation of the thread where I realised I was not alone in my hoarding of all things make-up/beauty/skincare/toiletries.

Lots of lovely mumsnetters who encourage each other to use and enjoy all those lovely products, and at the same time try to reduce our spending on unnecessaries!

Finished one of my lovely "Christmas Market" soaps....got a bit carried away and have about 8 big bars of savon de Marseille in a box on top of the wardrobe. Use it in the shower and kind of alternate with shower gel. I don't think I will need to buy any next Christmas, each bar lasts me months!

Have been using up sachets. Loved the Eve Lom cleanser and Emma Hardie skin lotion with primer.

I have organised all my toiletries into baskets and are much easier to find.

I think the free gift is the thing that makes me keep buying rather than choosing a product I want for itself. I often buy Clinique or Clarins this way.

Been lurking for a while.

Used up an imperial leather shower gel I bought in a panic. It was the funfair nostalgia one, would probably not bother buying again.

Also used up two mini cans - one Sure deodorant and one mini Batiste.

Tiny amount so far, but cannot wait to one day have nothing left.

Now on to the 20 odd body lotionsSad

Yesterday, I bought some Boots 3 for 2 offers (mainly skin care for DS and hair things for DD)
And some Soap&Glory because I had an Extra Points voucher and it was 3 for 2.

Today I calmly put the shower gel and scrubs in the cupboard and used the rest of the Sugar Crush scrub Halo, and will work my way through the Body Shop shower gels.

Haven't finished anything in a while but still at it. I am using up full-size products so that takes time. A bottle of micellar water, a lipstick, a blusher, a toothpaste, a sunscreen and a conditioner are almost gone. I scooped out a spoonful of BB cream from a finished tube and mixed it with a paler shade in a tiny glass jar - perfect shade match and even the last drops will get worn.

I also have an eye palette that is slowly getting there. One of the four pans is gone and in the rest I am getting closer and closer to hitting pan.

A couple of empties this weekend. A sample size of Sensodyne mouthwash that I was given as a freebie in a shopping centre a couple of years ago - I found it a few weeks ago in one of my kitchen drawers. I took it away with me in my washbag, it was just the right size for a two night trip. Won't repurchase as it didn't taste minty enough and I don't have sensitive teeth.

Also a Flexitol heel balm, which is a good workmanlike product. I probably will repurchase this but not yet because I have another one on the go in my bedside table.

IPokeBadgers · 25/04/2016 13:26

Finished a shampoo. Not very exciting but as I have said before, the fact that, since starting this thread, I am now operating on a principle of "use one, have one in reserve" [as opposed to about 6!] is big progress for me! Grin

An donated one of my lovely soaps to my lovely husband, so that is one less in my stockpile.

No perfume empties this week, the ones I'm using up are really strong and don't work very well as room sprays (unless I want to be very unpopular at home.)

Have finished a Body Shop Shea hand cream, won't rebuy as I've got several spares in other scents. Also finished a jar of Lancôme beauty sleep perfector, definitely wouldn't buy again as the smell was odd and can't see that's it's made any difference to my skin.

I've bought quite a lot of skin care stuff recently Blush To be fair, I didn't have much to start with but really must try not to let it get out of hand.

Ememem84 · 25/04/2016 20:42

Finished a mini batiste today. Am off on a weeks business trip next week. To Israel. So am hoping to finish a ton of travel size products, a sunscreen, some aloe Vera gel (not a forever living one!) and some mini Molton brown shower gels. Dh is out of shampoo. So I'm encouraging him to share mine.

Tomorrow I'll finish a soltan fake tan.

dogdaydisaster · 26/04/2016 09:29

Finished another Aussie conditioner today, and have 2 in reserve as it's all I use.

Also used upa Body Shop Vitamin E nightserum/oil. I liked this but I have the Kiehls one still going so no need to rebuy.

CheshireChat · 26/04/2016 19:03

I've decided I need to start using my stash up as well so I might as well join in. My problem is I get panicky about using things up so they either go off or I buy a replacement that then might or might not get finished, it's even worse if the product isn't dirt cheap.
However, I'm getting better and I'm trying to use up some Korres stuff that I should love, but they don't do much for me. It's the trial kit with Japanese Rose and Wild Rose stuff, they're not bad but the moisturiser isn't any better than my £1 Dove one and I'm not sure my face likes the mask...
I've also started wearing perfume around the house as I enjoy it.

Paperblank · 26/04/2016 19:10

My Elemis Pro-radiance Cream Cleanser is still not used up!!

I thought it was nearly done a month ago. It must regenerate in the tube Grin

Kwick709 · 26/04/2016 19:36

Does anyone else see stockpiling tendencies overflow into other parts of life... Yes I will be that lady that they find in her flat but camnot get to due to crap everywhere!!! Clutter is my middle name!

Ememem84 · 26/04/2016 20:08

kwick I'm the same.

CheshireChat · 26/04/2016 20:08

Kwick709 what you mean that random piece of ribbon that I may use in another lifetime?

Kwick709 · 26/04/2016 20:38

Indeed! I have a box full of ribbon (at least it is in its own box). Have every bank statement since 1992....

CheshireChat · 26/04/2016 20:50

Or nice jars- I saved quite a lot of my Douwe Egberts ones... And then binned then as I don't actually need them for anything.

Ememem84 · 26/04/2016 21:24

Oooh I love nice jars. I save the ones from candles Jo Malone and use them for cotton buds. Cotton wool balls etc

WellTidy · 27/04/2016 08:38

I save all jars, nice or not nice! Was it Douwe Egberts that released the Orla K jars with their coffee? I bought all three colours, £5 each, and I don't even like their coffee. Now all three jars are standing empty as I have no use for them.

There was a time when I would make chutneys and sauces and stuff, so I would save every smallish jar we'd finished with. I haven't done that for a couple of years, but I still save the jars. I have a whole shelf of empties. I must do a stocktake as that is what encouraged me to stop hoarding beauty products and toiletries.

Kwick709 · 27/04/2016 08:42

welltidy please make chutney and sauces again!

WellTidy · 27/04/2016 08:54

I keep meaning to Kwick, after all, I have all the jars! And quite a few labels sets. I've made a few from the Lorraine Pascale book, the first one she ever did. They were really easy. The blackberry and apple one is really nice, and the Asian chilli jam is gorgeous. They are foolproof. And I have done an orange and cranberry and port sauce from some book or other, and a redcurrant jelly. They're all really easy, and I like making things that we can eat all year round. And if I do them in batches, then I have some gifts for others too.

And they are something else I can hoard!!

Kwick709 · 27/04/2016 09:11

I say go ahead! At least the jars will be serving their life's purpose :)

Kwick709 · 27/04/2016 10:33

I have FINALLY finished Body Shop Lemongrass footspray.. Obvs not one of my favs as has taken me maybe 5 years to use up????

WellTidy · 27/04/2016 10:40

Foot creams last forever for me too. I had one of those Body Shop lemongrass ones for years. Mine went powdery - is it supposed to do this? I have a very nice one from Ahava on the go at the moment, but again, I've had it for an age.
