Every day trainers - what's stylish and comfy?

Need some trainers for holiday and walking with the baby and toddler around town, parks etc. Probably mostly worn with skinny jeans, so nothing too clumpy. I like converse but everybody seems to have a pair. What alternatives are there?

Hello, this thread is a little old and the links are out of date. Take a look at this handy page for a round up of Mumsnetters' favourite trainers.

Thanks to you lot I have just bought these Vans

Not sure if they are stylish or comfy!!!!

Cockbollocks · 26/08/2015 14:04

oh and thank you brenda they are nice scratch

Zhx3 · 26/08/2015 14:13

I'm not a fashion trailblazer at all scratchandsniff! I got these:

Burgundy Puma Suede

and New Balance Grey Mint Blue

BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 14:27

love all of those

MajesticWhine · 26/08/2015 15:50

Those Puma Suedes are pretty cool. I'm tempted.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/08/2015 15:52

Ash virgins

Zhx3 · 26/08/2015 16:23

Majestic having just bought them, I now think I prefer these!

Which look very similar, but have burgundy laces and some leather on the upper. Dammit!

PosterEh · 26/08/2015 16:26

Another vote for Ash Virgins.

I think I might need some Marrimekko converse too now.

scratchandsniff · 26/08/2015 19:45

Good choices Zhx3 I like all of those. I'm now having second thoughts about the ones I've ordered and wonder if I should have gone for something a bit plainer and will go with everything. I had some New Balance similar to the ones you have ordered when I was at Uni many moons ago and loved them. The ones I ordered are quite jazzy (as my my mum would say) for me. Probably should have ordered several at once to try them all on and make a choice.

I'm 5ft 5 and not blessed with the slimmest of thighs/calves so worry about looking dumpy in trainers, but my poor old feet are needing a bit more love and attention these days.

Who knew I'd get so into trainer shopping! Spent ages looking while feeding baby in the small hours last night.

Don't buy sketchers they are embarrassing.

BatonRouge · 26/08/2015 22:08

Nike Roche Run's are slick, also have my eye on some Nike Thea's but hefty price tag of £85

So just picked up these on sale - hybrid of huaraches and roches. Waiting in anticipation for delivery

Bunbaker · 26/08/2015 22:13

I don't find the other trainers linked on here any more attractive than the Sketchers ones I saw in the shops today. In fact, if you looked at their website here you will find that quite a few of their trainers look pretty similar to other brands. Also their lace up Bobs look very similar to Converse (and are far more comfortable)

BatonRouge · 26/08/2015 22:21

Cant agree Bunbaker - in my mind Sketchers dont cut it in the design stakes. They're like the equilvent of copy-cat Aldi goods Grin

Too clunky and cheap looking. Plus they're a fashion shoe - you wouldnt get athletes wearing Sketchers in sport.

Lastly the 'kids' are down with them.

Jeez cant believe I've been taken in by above!

BatonRouge · 26/08/2015 22:22

Soz - mean 'Kids' arent down with them!

MairzyDoats · 26/08/2015 22:37

I love the New Balance you've ordered Scratch, really love them, am torn between those and these...

Coastingit · 26/08/2015 23:03

Ash Virgins.

Bunbaker · 26/08/2015 23:17

"Plus they're a fashion shoe "

Ha ha ha ha.
I don't think they are. I simply find that they are more comfortable than any other shoe I have tried. Maybe I have funny feet.

I don't worry about copy-cat stuff either. I tend to avoid branded products unless it is something that I really like. And I couldn't care less what the kids are wearing and am not bothered about looking "cool".

scratchandsniff · 27/08/2015 00:04

Ooh Mairzy I somehow missed those ones. Really like those too and tempting price tag. I prefer the shape/profile of the 410, seem sleeker than the other new balance. Why don't you order both and see which you prefer on.

Those Nike Theas look very comfortable!

BatonRouge · 27/08/2015 06:44

Fair play Bunbaker - each to their own and all that. Wink

IJustLostTheGame · 27/08/2015 09:19

I've got some 'fake' vans from peacocks for about a tenner. They are a hideous shade of pink (only colour in my size) but OMG are they comfy and slip on too.

jingscrivvens · 27/08/2015 09:32

I second Puma Suedes, love em

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/08/2015 18:44

I didn't get on with NB when I tried them - found them really heavy and they made my small, narrow feet look really clunky.

yazzy85 · 28/08/2015 10:51

The new balance 420s I ordered are too narrow and small on my wide feet. Any trainers that will be wider in the toes?

scratchandsniff · 28/08/2015 11:04

They arrived yesterday and I loved them but they were too small Sad. Not sure whether to order next size up or go with something else.

Something like the puma suede might be wider yazzy
