Every day trainers - what's stylish and comfy?

Need some trainers for holiday and walking with the baby and toddler around town, parks etc. Probably mostly worn with skinny jeans, so nothing too clumpy. I like converse but everybody seems to have a pair. What alternatives are there?

Hello, this thread is a little old and the links are out of date. Take a look at this handy page for a round up of Mumsnetters' favourite trainers.

I bought Superga for the first time this year. Very comfortable.

RaisingSteam · 28/08/2015 12:39

I was in Schuh yesterday and tried on these black nubuck ones. Are they OK for everyday? I tried on black puma suede but felt a bit conscious of the white bits gleaming out.

yazzy85 · 28/08/2015 15:19

Supergas were too hard and not supportive enough for me. Will order the puma suedes to see if they are wider. It's a shame the new balance ones do look good!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2015 15:42

I like those, Raising Steam.

drinkscabinet · 28/08/2015 17:21

I think New Balance come up really small, I regularly have to size down in a lot of brands but bought some New Balance recently and had to send back and get the next size up.

Puma suede will be my next buy, I swithered over buying them when I bought my last pair of Converse. I have to wear leather shoes at work so have ben known to fall in love with some trainers then realise that I can't get them in suede or leather, it's very sad.

RaisingSteam · 28/08/2015 18:06

RLBG thanks for your endorsement. hopefully will keep me away from the dangerous territory of these

Cocolepew · 28/08/2015 18:36

Puma suedes are wide(ish)
They are better than Converse but are flatter than trainer still.
DD has the shoe and I have hi tops, in the Puma but I wear insoles.
I had a pair of New Balance years ago and they were ridiculously uncomfortable.

Awks · 28/08/2015 19:13

I'm on my second pair of Saucony Jazz trainers here. Had the plain black and white ones and am now on grey and lime. They are super bouncy and comfy.

scratchandsniff · 28/08/2015 20:08

I've reordered the new balance in next size up and also some puma suede which they only had in next size up. Hopefully one will be ok. The puma suede are a good deal cheaper.

Puma suedes look nice but they're not bouncy.

MsBojangles · 29/08/2015 10:33

I have the Nike Thea's, I can walk for miles in them, even ran for a train in them yesterday - something I would never have attempted in normal shoes!

Cocolepew · 29/08/2015 10:38

These have bven my favourite for a couple of years, all I know is that they are Addidas.

Blush sorry that always happens when I post pictures

VioletBumble · 29/08/2015 10:41

Any recommendations for wide-ish and bouncy (oooer) trainers. Skechers obv fit the bill perfectly but are there any others?

Cant do thin soles and a lot of styles seem to be for narrower feet.

leccybill · 29/08/2015 10:59

Following on from VioletBumble, any recommendations for narrow, lightweight trainers? I have very narrow feet so can't wear anything clumpy!

yazzy85 · 29/08/2015 11:08

Are the Nike Theas ok for wide feet?

VioletBumble · 29/08/2015 11:13

Leccy - Converse are usually too narrow for me if that helps! New Balance also look narrow, though i havent tried them.

Lurkedforever1 · 29/08/2015 11:25

violet Nike airs all the way. Mega comfy. And pretty roomy. Men's sizes go down to a 6 in some ranges and they're really wide imo.
leccy Lonsdale are generally lighter and narrower. Converse are usually lighter but don't have a vast range in the non fashion trainers. Or if they aren't for running, look at football boots with blades, or tennis ranges, they're usually a narrower fit. Or if you're under 5&1/2 or 6 look at kids ones, tend to be narrower and lighter.

leccybill · 29/08/2015 11:46

Oh brill, thanks all. Anyone know at a glance which brands go up to a 6 in a kids size? Hoping I might save a few quid!

Lurkedforever1 · 29/08/2015 12:46

I've found it's not brands so much as some styles that go up to a 6 in kids. Have a look at sports direct, they seem to have the biggest range of actual sports shoes rather than just fashion for kids and ladies sizes and always have stuff on sale too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2015 12:53

Converse and Nike Roshe both work v well on my narrow feet. I thought the NBs were a bit wide.

leccybill · 29/08/2015 16:15

Wow, just been to our new Sports Direct, remembering the horrid cheapo hell-hole I used to get dragged to with DH for new football boots.

Bit taken aback really - it's now a massive, bright airy store full of bargains. Got some Karrimor gym wear, a Regatta coat for DD and got my eye on quite a few pairs of New Balance runners, just need to decide which I liked the most! Pleasantly surprised!

DCITennison · 30/08/2015 11:18

Im notoriously bad at choosing trainers, was veering towards Skechers til I saw this thread.

What about these, I like them but are they really awful to normal non-trainer-blind people?
