Need some trainers for holiday and walking with the baby and toddler around town, parks etc. Probably mostly worn with skinny jeans, so nothing too clumpy. I like converse but everybody seems to have a pair. What alternatives are there?

Hello, this thread is a little old and the links are out of date. Take a look at this handy page for a round up of Mumsnetters' favourite trainers.

I like them, pity they arent in my size.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/08/2015 11:41

I like the grey a lot, but not sure about the shiny tick and trim.

treaclesoda · 30/08/2015 11:43

I love Puma, I find them fantastically comfortable.

I can't wear Converse, find them quite uncomfortable but I have discovered very similar Dunlops and whilst they have a limited range of colours they are fantastically comfortable. And best of all, they're cheap as chips.

DCITennison · 30/08/2015 11:52

Im size 8, I got them.
The pearly tick and trim not ideal but hopefully not too bad as overall the grey isn't very shouty.

Squooshed · 30/08/2015 12:00

When my regime is up and running Skechers will be most definitely on the banned list.

Hideous things.

LittleMiss77 · 30/08/2015 13:11

Converse are made by the devil himself. Never have i owned a pair of trainers so uncomfortable.

Vans are the way forward OP. Dont let anyone tell you any different Grin

Squooshed · 30/08/2015 13:13

I agree about Converse being uncomfortable. They cut my heels to absolute shreds. Instruments of torture!

treaclesoda · 30/08/2015 13:15

Converse also give me that horrible burning sensation on the ball of the foot. Matches nicely with the shredded heels Smile

Cocolepew · 30/08/2015 13:24

Has anyone got Nike Flex? Have my eye on a black pair.

diplodocus · 30/08/2015 13:27

I really like to New Balance in burgundy, but am now 50 - will I look the dreaded "mutton dressed as lamb"? I still wear canvas converse (which I also wonder if I should give up) but some leather ones would be great for the winter. Do I need to start looking a sensible lace ups in beige?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/08/2015 13:52

I love my leather Cons, but the Nike trainers are infinitely more comfortable.

Cocolepew · 30/08/2015 14:12

I have a couole of leather Cons hi tops, they are more comfortable than the canvas lo tops. I find them toko flat for my dodgy feet, but I just stick an insole in them.

Cocolepew · 30/08/2015 14:12

Theres no such thing as mutton dressed as lamb, wear what you like Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/08/2015 14:15

Exactly!

IAmNotDarling · 30/08/2015 14:27

Stan Smith Adidas for me. I've been wearing this style for over twenty years and they look great with most things.

MsBojangles · 30/08/2015 23:22

I gave away my thrice worn Converse to the local charity shop, instruments of torture indeed - flat soles so thin you can feel every single piece of gravel, heels covered in blood after a 20 min walk to the post office and back.

No thank you!

Nikes really are like walking on air in comparison, my Theas are light as a cloud, no clod hopping involved.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/08/2015 10:36

I honestly haven't had problems with Converse, although I do prefer the leather ones to the canvas ones. They are just a bit too flat for the full days of walking you do when on holiday etc - absolutely fine for normal casual wear for me.

lurkingabit · 31/08/2015 11:14

Thanks for this thread. I've Nike Air and they are magnificently comfortable. (Am not usually given to superlatives). I love them, not so keen on the asthetics but that's just me, others like them. Despite that, I still love them. SO comfy. But they are sadly ready for le bin. TImely thread. Shall work my way through the links.

Cocolepew · 31/08/2015 12:28

Im the same Remus, I've never had any problems with Converse.

Squooshed · 31/08/2015 12:34

I must have delicate aristocratic feet that haven't yet evolved to cope with anything rougher than the finest kidskin leather.

Oh to have hardy peasant trotters!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/08/2015 12:41

Must admit that I spent a lot of my teens barefoot, so am a bit of a hobbit.

Cocolepew · 31/08/2015 12:45

Trotters!? How very dare you. This is me.

What a timely thread. I need some super comfortable and supportive trainers because my body has been so wrecked by two pregnancies I'm in constant pain when I walk. My pelvis is misaligned and knackered, I've recently started wearing a heel lift in one shoe AND I have high arches and awkward feet.

I was considering Sketchers Shock Purely because the memory foam soles sounded SO appealing. Is there any hope of finding something equally comfortable but less hideous to look at?

Squooshed · 31/08/2015 12:51

You're super pretty Cocole. I love that you're all 'yeah I've got cankles, whatcha gonna do about it?'.

You go girl!

p.s. what body lotion do you use, your skin is like silk.
