Every day trainers - what's stylish and comfy?

Need some trainers for holiday and walking with the baby and toddler around town, parks etc. Probably mostly worn with skinny jeans, so nothing too clumpy. I like converse but everybody seems to have a pair. What alternatives are there?

Hello, this thread is a little old and the links are out of date. Take a look at this handy page for a round up of Mumsnetters' favourite trainers.

I was considering Sketchers

Eliminate that thought immediately!

By all accounts Nike is the way to go in terms of out and out comfort.

Squooshed · 31/08/2015 12:59

On this thread alone
Nike Roshe
Nike AF1 Ultra Force
Nike internationalist
Nike Thea
Nike Air

....have all received rave reviews in terms of the comfort they give the wearer.

Squooshed · 31/08/2015 13:08

And one last thing, Nike make sports shoes whereas Skechers make 'fashion' (debatable I know) shoes so the support in a Nike would be far superior.

Hope you find something that helps, sounds hellish.

Cocolepew · 31/08/2015 13:11

Trade secret Im afraid Squoosh. Its ok having skin like silk but I bruise like a peach Sad
Driver, Nike Roche might be best for you because the heel is hugher than the front of the shoe.
Ask for a referal to a podiatrist. I went a couple of weeks ago and she gave me insoles, my knees and pelvis are so much better

Cocolepew · 31/08/2015 13:15

Higher not hugher Confused

DriverSurpriseMe · 31/08/2015 13:25

Thanks Squoosh Grin Thing is, I don't want anything particularly sporty looking either. I am not sporty and never will be. The idea of trotting around in proper running trainers is too ironic for words (I can't even break into a light jog without pain!).

Will check out some of those Nikes, although I don't like the idea of such a recognisable sporty brand.

New Balance 420s here. So comfortable. I'm usually a size 6, but they come up pretty small, so got a 7 which are perfect. On my feet all day when working and these really are amazing. Best pair I've ever had and unless they change, I'll always get these. Can't recommend highly enough.

Hezaire · 31/08/2015 20:46

Not sure they count as trainers but toms are the comfiest shoes in the world in my opinion. I've worn mine to death this year walking with the kids. They are great

treaclesoda · 31/08/2015 23:16

I really really need to stay away from threads like this. In the space of 24 hours I convinced myself that I really needed new trainers, and now I've gone and ordered a pair. On the plus side, I managed to buy a kids pair, so it was cheaper

DriverSurpriseMe · 04/09/2015 18:31

Thank you S&B. You have saved me from making a Skechers mistake and today these Liberty print Nike Internationalists arrived from Office. I love them!

I quite like the look of the leather low tops from next

What are peoples opinion on these? I'm not very stylish --own two pairs of skechers and bloody love my Go Walks so there-- but I need a school run shoe to wear with jeans but hate the jeans and trainers look.

Coastingit · 04/09/2015 23:17

Trainer fans - go to Shoeaholics and check out their trainers section. Fur lined Converse hi tops, Ash Bowies, Liberty Vans, Kurt Geiger skate shoes etc all heavily reduced. Liberty Vans are £19 on there.

mathanxiety · 05/09/2015 06:20

I just recommended Nike Roshe shoes on another thread but here goes again..

Nike Roshe are worth every penny.

MagicalRealist · 05/09/2015 07:49

Kiwi I actually posted about those next trainers on this thread! They are gorgeous on and look more expensive than they are.

Cocolepew · 05/09/2015 07:53

They're lovely Kiwi
.

Cocolepew · 05/09/2015 07:58

Oohh I like these

mayum1 · 05/09/2015 08:07

I have a pair of wedge Skechers that I can't wear without wincing in pain after a few hours.

I love my Nike Air Max 90s.

I used to think Converse was painful but I wore mine again recently and I was surprised it was comfortable. Maybe it depends on the socks.

The Adidas Boost ones are comfortable also.

I wanna get Roshe Run for spring/summer but not sure how much support the mesh upper part can give.

LucyLocketLostHerPocket · 05/09/2015 08:20

Are the canvas low tops from places like New Look a complete no-no for a forty something year old? I love all these casual shoes and want some for autumn but £50 plus is just way outside my budget and saw some patterned ones yesterday for about £12. I bought DC some Converse high tops a couple of years ago for Christmas but they found them so uncomfortable they ever wore them. They now wear the cheap Dunlops from Sports Direct and find them much comfier (very lucky they're not fussed about designer stuff really).

Cocolepew · 05/09/2015 08:34

Of course they're not a no no, go for it Smile

LucyLocketLostHerPocket · 06/09/2015 08:56

Thank you Coco I'm now the proud owner of two pairs. It's doubled my shoe choice!

AnyoneButAndre · 06/09/2015 09:12

I've hesitantly suggested these on the New York thread. They might be worth a try for DriverSurpriseMe.

hiccupgirl · 06/09/2015 09:28

kiwi I've got the black ones and I picked up a red pair in the sale that I haven't worn yet. They are really comfy and look great. I think they're a bargain. I like the look of the mink ones too Grin
