Smile BTM, ouch. As Mariella says: that bloke is lucky his dd is planning to feed him. In our house, I suspect the current master plan is to peg dh out alive on a mountain top and invite the crows to peck out his liver.
bigTillyMint · 23/08/2015 11:21

StroppsGrin

Cremo · 23/08/2015 12:21

Hi Stropps , brilliant that you felt up to posting. You are made of sterner stuff ( keep repeating)

Beachy my goodness the fortitude of dd! This trip will be the making of her, and how brilliant to have made friends with the older kids. That will be great when they all go back to school. Wow!

Here packing, ironing, trying to forget about work situation and divkhead ebayer who has been ghastly. Funny the things that break you ( weepy last night). I guess I've been retaining and holding back all the stress for months. Hoping for a quiet first week to hols with an audiobook and a loungerSmile

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/08/2015 17:31

So DD1 goes back to school tomorrow night. She has been doing her homework this afternoon, complete with shouty tantrums, wails of "it's not fair", dramatic throwing of paper, pencils, rubbers. How long has she had to do this homework? Since 15 June. How long have I been nagging her for to do it?

I am tired and seem to have lost my mojo. I CBA to cook (but did make some muffins this afternoon). I think this is resentment at DH being back on his bonkers diet of fish, salad and potatoes or brown rice, which he is now eating every day for lunch and dinner. If I suggest he cooks, guess what we get? DD2 wants sausages tonight, with mash and peas, so that is what we are having - if he wants to eat fish, rice and salad, that is his look out. And I have been to Tesco, which is always soul destroying.

MollyLair · 23/08/2015 17:36

Marking place...glad to see us ALL back together again. Grin

MrsS, fgs avoid Tesco. Most of all on a Sunday.

motherinferior · 23/08/2015 17:55

MrsS, commiserations. DP, as some of you will recall, cooks regularly but not always deliciously, and if I add salt I get The Look.

Would an array of condiments - from mayo to shriracha sauce - make his food more edible?

Lalsy · 23/08/2015 18:04

Crem, have a brilliant time - I wish you many lounging hours (have just had 20 mins myself).

Stropps, wot Molly and everyone said.

I am laughing at dd: for two nights in a row, her beastly parents have made her go out to dinner and to cool (by our standards, which are low) things; she keeps trying to go back to bed GrinGrin.

wordassociationfootball · 23/08/2015 18:14

I'm in!

Have a superb hol Crem.

Herbs - don't get no-one a'hollerin' about cashews in Tenby... I know there's not much great nosh, but there's not much braying middle classes either.

(Lalsy, yes there is a connection. DH grew up not that far away and there is family friend accommodation for us to stay in. I truly love it)

CV you made me larf blowing raspberries at me.

Stropps. Brill to see you.

CointreauVersial · 23/08/2015 18:19

Am doing some leisurely holiday prep.... leaving tomorrow. Roof box is on, suitcases out of loft, crisp pile of Euro in my wallet... There won't be a lot of relaxing for the first few days, and I'm a bit Angry (but not particularly surprised) that rain is forecasted in Amsterdam (it poured with rain on both my previous visits; I actually resorted to buying more clothes on one occasion because I had massively underpacked). DB has kindly offered us dinner en route to the ferry.

DS is still not back from Wales. The washing machine awaits his return.

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/08/2015 18:32

MI - no. I am sick of lettuce and cold salmon, tinned tuna and smoked mackerel. I am also getting tired of grilled chicken (which is the alternative protein). Apparently I need to make the salads more interesting. But I don't think that is the point.

I am as bad as DD1 - I have to put in job applications by tomorrow (deadline) and have done nothing about it. Each application needs to be written individually and tailored to the job. I don't particularly want any of them, but anything is better than what I am doing at the moment. One nasty moment when I went to speak to someone about a job, working to a very very senior level committee. I asked if M was still serving on the committee, was told he was, and was then asked how I knew him. Didn't really think I should say "in the biblical sense" although it would have livened up the conversation. If I get to interview, no doubt I will be rejected time and again for not being enthusiastic enough about the jobs.

Need to snap out of this negativity, and do something, even if it is just cook dinner. May plod through some job applications tonight to get them out of the way.

Hi WAF!

MrsS, I feel your pain re the homework. Very similar situation here. DD has to get 3 essays done by the end of tomorrow. It doesn't bode well for A'levelsSad
And DS is watching some godawful American film on NetflixAngry

CV, hope your DS and GF are still happily ensconced for your holiday!

Cremo · 23/08/2015 18:53

Gosh C V that's a quick turnaround for ds and gf innit? How will things be dry for the morning?Grin ( of course you prob have a tumble drier)
Packing mostly achieved. Because of car and just two people , we have far too much going with us. ,y excuse is the weather can be a bit neurotic at this time of year in the West of France.

Mrs S , having been on a similar diet as your Dh I can actually sympathise , but I did cook another menu for the rest as well as staring down the salads and plain boiled rice.
When I feel like you do, I get out a big pile of my faithful recipe books and take to my bed until I feel inspired to cook. I do have to reward myself occasionally with trips to naice delis instead of facing the ritual humiliation of Tesco. ( shopping equivalent of The Daily Mail )Confused

bigTillyMint · 23/08/2015 19:02

Happy hols Cremo - love the West of France.

Home delivery is your friendWink I haven't been into a supermarket here in ages, bar a quick nip into the local small one for the odd thing.

Cremo · 23/08/2015 19:26

Merci Lalsy , BTM et al re hols: this one has been a long time coming.

MollyLair · 23/08/2015 19:34

MrsS, surely you need to enhance your salads with quinoa ?

herbaceous · 23/08/2015 19:51

Flipping heck. Just lost great long post.

In summary;

Bon vacances all those who are off

We had sunshine this afternoon, after torrential downpours all night and morning, meaning dun was had, including collecting fossils, made plentiful by last nights mudslides. See 'downpours'.

Stropps - thank you for hints, and PM. Will reply shortly. Radio contact patchy!

Lalsy · 23/08/2015 19:55

Crem, that truly is a top crepey tip - going to bed to await inspiration in the face of family nonsense.

Hey, WAF! My df also, and I spent all my hols there as a child. We should compare notes some time. I truly love it too.

wilbur · 23/08/2015 20:29

I have put the 26th in my diary, yay that Crem is coming over, and will keep checking back re arrangements as I would love to see everyone or anyone who's around. Stropps - I saw that RL was very tricky for you right now and I'm so sorry but sending positive vibes for whatever resolution is best for you all.

Herbs - watch out for the rockpools on your hols as I managed the very Crepey injury of a sprained ankle on our favourite rockpool beach in Wales by slipping off the side of a rock and twisting right over on my foot (I was wearing good and grippy shoes too). The pain was so bad that I thought I was going to faint or be sick, so the dcs were treated to the sight of me lowering myself backwards and lying, Ophelia-style, in one of the rockpools so that I didn't fall and crack my head open on a rock. I honestly thought I had broken my foot but I could hobble on it after about 20 mins, thank god. What did make me feel old is how long the swelling and bruising took to arrive - I'm sure when you are young the healing process starts straight away with swelling there almost immediately, but these days it seems my white cells are firmly on the sofa and resent being called out for anything - it took them about 36 hours to make my foot look even remotely interesting and by the time I had a swollen and purple ankle to wave about, no one could be bothered to be sympathetic. I still complained though.

Awful about the Shoreham crash - hope no one you know if affected, Beachy. A v close friend used to live there but is now in Hove, so I know that road well too.

Have a good week Crepeys - hope the terrible weather forecasts are overly pessimistic.

Stropperella · 23/08/2015 20:35

Bon voyage, Crem and CV. Hope you both have a lovely time!
Sorry to hear about your ankle, Wilbur. Sounds exceedingly nasty. Soft tissue injury can often be a damn sight more painful than people think and often takes a long time to settle. Get well soon!
Thanks for all the good wishes. Things are.. peculiar at best.

hattymattie · 24/08/2015 07:44

Hello Wilbur - hope the ankle swelling though late to arrive is early to subside.

Crem - hope the weather improves for you - it seems a bit dire at the moment[.

Herbs - I love looking for fossils and had to be dragged off a Somerset beach where I was searching for ammonites. I could stay all day - provided a good pub lunch is on hand. Mudslides are particularly lucky.Smile

Wishing crem and CV Happy Hols and that you end up somewhere where it's not bucketing down, like it is where I am this morning!

Welcome back to MN cyberspace WAF !

MrsS I do not, repeat not cook for the family on weekend evenings. I used to feel bad when one or other of them was sitting down with bread and cheese and a face like thunder, but that didn't last. Now they don't expect me to....

Ouchy wilbur

rudy sounds like the dust is settling and you have A Plan.... Smile

Preparing to drive back to the Smoke now. DH went yesterday as he's away in the Channel Islands for work and panicking about getting back in time for something important on Tuesday....weather and flights looking disrupted.
This summer has been a bit tough now I look back on it. Going home hopefully to meeting with the SW and to sort something out for DDad.

hattymattie · 24/08/2015 08:59

Following on from Rose - Mrs S - Saturday lunch - often fajitas made by DH. Sat evening - salad with smoked salmon on bread. Sunday night always crêpes - family tradition - made by DH or nowadays a child.

BeachysFlipFlops · 24/08/2015 09:30

Peeing down here too, Rose. I was supposed to take ds to London to do the Rib Ride down the Thames. He has politely declined and as I have a stinking cough and cold, I didn't argue.

At least I'm not going up Snowdon today Grin

bigTillyMint · 24/08/2015 09:50

Hatty, your crepes, are they buckwheat or normal? What do you fill them with? We quite often have Toad in the Hole which follows the batter theme!

Beachy, wise move re Rib! it is peeing it down here! Is your valiant DD going up Snowdon today?Shock

Good luck with the meeting Rose.

Wibur, ouch! Make sure you are resting it properly.

Rudy, so pleased to hear your DD is bouncing back. 3 interviews in 3 days?! Do you have to go to them too?
If DD gets her homework done, she enrols Wed morning, but I don't think they need a parent...

Had DD's friends and parents over last night to get organised for Reading. I'm taking the girls to Decathlon this afternoon, and to sort out a PAYG brick for DD!
