So there. :)

herbaceous · 18/07/2015 22:19

I can't take total credit - Pinterest provided lots of the inspiration! And my party partner is both creative AND practical (something of a rare combination - and she did most of the arty stuff.

cremolafoam · 19/07/2015 12:42

Janeyo Mac Herbs you are such a sport. The party sounds fantastic: lucky ds. Over and above General Parenting imho.

We are attacking the dust today. It is everywhere, and the Hoover is on the blink. The cats are going i. Iand out of the new doors like nutters. They are going to yam at it constantly when closed aren't they?Angry

Addle, fgs what is wrong with those buyers? Have they no clue as to how these things work? Are their questions about fixtures and fittings? If so it will be on the solicitors list. Time wise -they are being buck eejits.Shock

Bidding is furious on my eBay crap items. May be able to afford The Rookery in September( hopefulGrin)

Oh Rudy Envy

We are one nights accommodation short but otherwise good to go (we think.....)

MrsSchadenfreude · 19/07/2015 15:38

Cat sitter booked, so we are off oop north to stay with friends for a week next month. Yay. But next year I am going to book holiday and cat sitter well in advance, and not leave it up to DH.

DH got a letter from the Inland Revenue yesterday, telling him he had underpaid tax for a previous year, and that he owed them... 20p. He can either send them a cheque or pay by bank transfer...

Party looked fabulous, Herbs.

Think I will go and sit in the garden later, with some Pimms.

cremolafoam · 19/07/2015 22:21

Oh excellent Rudy. Sounds like you had / are having a good time

BD - can you sleep on the beach under the stars in Zanzibar?
Grin

Mrs S so pleased it has come together for you. I once got a tax rebate for 22p , so couldn't be more delighted to hear your Dh is paying that for me.

Now, in first world problems of the week: if you have triple glazed glass doors do you install curtains or not. I think not but Dh disagrees....

NUFC69 · 20/07/2015 07:42

The holidays sound lovely and I am jealous, says she who has already had two overseas breaks, plus two in England this year (entitled pensioner emoticon) Smile I can tell I am back home, we have the heating on.

Crem, I would go with curtains as I feel vulnerable in the winter in the dark when I can't see out but lurkers can see in - oddly enough I only feel like this with the double doors, not the bay window at the front.

Off for a lady splash and Aquafit shortly to try to remove some of the lbs I have managed to put on over the last few weeks.

beachyhead · 20/07/2015 08:57

We made it, slowly! Average speed about 38mph, I'm guessing. We had to pull over to let the long queues pass us by Grin

Weather starts a bit meh, then seems to brighten up each day. Off for a long bike ride today, maybe some mussels and certainly some rosé...

bigTillyMint · 20/07/2015 09:41

Heating on? It is sweltering down here, night and day - DS has his window open and a fan on all nightGrin

Cremo, are the curtains for privacy or warmth? We have (old - probably nearly 20 years, but still good) double glazing and curtains for both privacy and warmth in the bedrooms and sitting room.

Beachy, that reminds me of the time, 20+ years ago that my then HT borrowed the DH's camper van to take us all to where the kids were on school journey. The combination of the old van and him driving meant that even lorries were overtaking us! Mussels and rose sounds parfait!

So nice snoozing on whilst poor DH had to go off to work this morning - he doesn't finish till tomorrow lunchtime. Packing beckons, but at least I have my listGrin

Rosebag · 20/07/2015 09:57

Racing in….everything's gone a bit manic. Must be that last week of term feeling…
Envy of Rudy, Beachy and other Crepeys already on their hols….

Herbs well done for surviving DS's birthday party…you're a real sport…

BD hope you can get away from the work horribleness and feel that you're having a real break.

Crem We only had blinds in our sun lounge/patio doors and windows, …just recently felt it wasn't cosy enough in winter so now have drapes as well…

Out of nowhere , work meetings today…and working til very late tonight on the play. Looking forward to seeing any Crepeys that are available round about 12.30 tomorrow RFH caff Smile

herbaceous · 20/07/2015 10:11

I'll be there, Rose!

Still recovering from DS's party. And have another hangover. DP and I shared some rosé and prosecco last night over a BBQ, hastily bought on the way home from an abortive attempt to go to a local festival. We queued for AN HOUR and were still 200 yards from the entrance when we gave up. Mental.

Today will be spent cleaning and tidying. Yay.

I am also girding my loins to ask DP the simplest request. Whenever he puts DS's t-shirts in the drawer, he screws them up so that when he comes to wear them they look like rags. As he's so difficult to talk to, I find myself lurking around when he puts laundry away, then dashing in, taking out the screwed up t-shirts, folding them, and putting them back. I think a more grown-up approach might be to just ask him.

motherinferior · 20/07/2015 10:15

I have another MONTH till we go!

Have Ladyjogged and spent rather longer than I meant to on novel rewrite.

motherinferior · 20/07/2015 10:17

Herbs, I feel your pain.

Rosebag · 20/07/2015 10:21

Herbs when you find the answer to the DP/DH's t- shirt folding problem…please do tell…along with the Wrongly Paired Up Socks Problem and the Jeans Being Put Away in the Wrong Person's Wardrobe Problem….

herbaceous · 20/07/2015 10:28

I see I am not alone. Is it some misguided attempt to get them out of any kind of laundry duty? A kind of 'learned incompetence'?

I'm not going on holiday for another FIVE WEEKS. And then only for a week.

herbaceous · 20/07/2015 10:32

BTW, to see the tenor of our Star Wars party, check out my FB feed. Good video of a mass hugging game!

bigTillyMint · 20/07/2015 13:09

I'll be there too - I'm guessing you mean the Riverside Terrace café? It'll be a good incentive to get me to sort my packing before then - 2 days to go here!

Herbs, I feel your pain - DH does this too, as well as screwing all clothes including DS and DD's school shirts onto the radiators in winter, but goes mental if I don't hang his shirts on hangers to dryAngry

Had to accompany DD to library earlier. It seems she has forgotten everything she ever knew about how libraries work (despite doing most of her revision in the very same one) and we had a tense time trying to find books that would do to help her to do a bit of the massive pile of holiday homework the first choice school have given out. None of the ones on the list, of course.

lalsy · 20/07/2015 13:27

Two weeks to go till hols here - tho I am winding down now in favour of sorting dc chaos. Speaking of which BTM, I don't know what sort of books dd needs, but we do very well for dd's university texts from second hand Amazon sellers - thriving market in school and UG texts I think. On the train of bank accounts, zip cards, railcards, for ds.

Crem, we had an extension a few years ago and have folding doors all the way round - we haven't put blinds or curtains in despite living in a very built up area and being completely overlooked. I love the space and don't really care if people watch me MN Grin - we thought we would mind but it turns out we don't.

CointreauVersial · 20/07/2015 13:28

I'm a control freak laundry-wise. DH doesn't get a look in. It's better that way.

But Herbs, I'm a bit Sad that you have to gird your loins for that discussion.

Five weeks til our holiday too. But she who laughs last, and all that....

bigTillyMint · 20/07/2015 13:55

Thanks Lalsy - will look into it. And you just reminded me that we need to get DD a new zip card!

herbaceous · 20/07/2015 13:56

I know, CV, it is ridiculous. Especially as he feels perfectly free to criticise me.

herbaceous · 20/07/2015 14:05

Re window dressings, we have big double-glazed doors in our kitchen, and no blinds. People might be able to see in, but I don't really care. Can't bear curtains/blinds in kitchens - grease a-go-go.

lalsy · 20/07/2015 14:11

BTM, they set it up very cleverly so current ones run till end Sept. Then the school/college can sign the form to say in education and you apply for the 16-18 one - they have to know where they will be for this to happen. Sorry for confusion - ds had lost his so had to apply for replacement.

NUFC69 · 20/07/2015 14:21

Yes, I was impressed with DS's party, Herbs; it sounded marvellous. The temperature was about 8 first thing and the house just felt cold so DH voluntarily put on the heating (faints with shock). I have sheets on the line and it's throwing it down. Meant to say, we do the packing lists, too - I make lists for everything. Have already planned, but not cooked, the meals for when DSis comes next week.

My bugbear with DH is that I carefully iron his shorts, he puts them away, and then the next year when I see them they look like pieces of rag and I end up ironing them again.
