Guest at wedding in Italy, it's going to be a scorcher!

Please help! Size 14 hourglass figure (huge norks 30hh smallish waist, large of hips and arse), height 5.2.

Want something cotton for the heat, not too restricting, something that nips in at the waist, not too 'booby', must be at least to the knee. I love blues and large print.

Budget about 100 quid.

The weather will be scorchio, up to 40 degrees I've been told.

Can any of you lovely people help me? Nearly killed myself shopping the other day and found nothing!

Lovely dresses both, but mostly polyester.

MairzyDoats · 13/06/2015 09:56

And polyester in Italy is asking for trouble...

playingup · 13/06/2015 10:11

I think I need to sit at a PC and go though all the links again, with fresh eyes. Maybe something I dismissed earlier might be the one...

good idea playingup - maybe if you can narrow down exactly the types you like, even if you don't find "the one". FWIW I don't have an issue with polyester in the heat (I live in a hot country) provided the dress is sleeveless and a fit and flare style.

a couple of other suggestions ...

simple with beaded sleeves

mostly cotton

simple but pretty colour

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/06/2015 11:06

That midnight blue dress with the beaded sleeves is simply lovely, coffeenut!

playingup · 13/06/2015 11:10

I agree the beaded sleeves one is very pretty

Find an independent dressmaker and have something made for you?

Or if you know an enthusiastic home sewer they could help you out?

Or you could have something altered?

playingup · 13/06/2015 11:46

I am thinking about getting something made. But I don't really know what style I want. I'm none the wiser since I started the thread Confused

Basically, I think you want something fitted on the top, which then flares out over the hips, maybe a little, or a lot depending on your preference. With a v neck, or maybe a sweetheart neck, or low round neck.

In a cotton weave, with a little lycra for comfort.

The colour is up to you - whatever suits.

You could find something you like the shape and fit, and then have a copy made, or a dress you already own which fits well, and have a copy, or adapted copy made of that?

playingup · 14/06/2015 16:41

Thanks, snow. It sounds so obvious when written out like that!

I dunno, I guess I just wanted that "oh wow, that's the one!" And I wanted something different. But really, I should just stick with something I know I suit. Fitted and flared.

Chic only loks chic if it fits properly Smile

playingup · 15/06/2015 15:21

I'm not even sure what chic is, if I'm being totally honest!Blush

To me, chic is extreme simplicity and high-quality materials. Could it be something like this but perhaps in a cooler fabric? I watched Italians who were coming out from the church next door this weekend and simple knee length swing dresses (sleeveless or with cap sleeves), a pochette bag (possibly jeweled) and very high, often beige or nude heels with ankle straps and glamorous sunglasses and blow-dried manes were the normative look. Lots of neutral colors, pastels in particular, but also saw a stunning tangerine orange silk shift. Older women wore demure black chiffon short-sleeved open cardigans over their dresses to cover their shoulders.

Sounds gorgeous, but this is a British wedding in Italy. I assume most if not all of the guests will be British, playingup?

SwedeDreams · 15/06/2015 20:21

blue floral?

snowaccidentprone · 17/06/2015 08:24

maybe something like this?
