Guest at wedding in Italy, it's going to be a scorcher!

Please help! Size 14 hourglass figure (huge norks 30hh smallish waist, large of hips and arse), height 5.2.

Want something cotton for the heat, not too restricting, something that nips in at the waist, not too 'booby', must be at least to the knee. I love blues and large print.

Budget about 100 quid.

The weather will be scorchio, up to 40 degrees I've been told.

Can any of you lovely people help me? Nearly killed myself shopping the other day and found nothing!

Morning all

Have had a think. I'm thinking maybe salt and teal are right in that I should opt for something more simple, chic and classic. Also not maxi.

Although I've adored some of the dresses on this thread, and I may just buy some for the hell of it and me course my discovery of Mod Cloth!! I'm thinking something plain might actually be the way forward.

Sorry to change the goalposts! But I really want to get this right.

Can anyone help? As I said before, I've never dressed in a chic classic way, I've always gone for big print, prom or wiggle dresses. I have no idea where to start.

Thanks to anyone who replies. And thanks to everyone who has replied. Flowers

I went to dnephew's evening wedding last June and every woman except me was resolutely in floor length dresses. General rule here (south) would be more is more Grin

Anything goes as long as it's very ostentatious tbh, and you can tell by looking at it how much it cost.

Lots of proper red carpet evening gown stuff. Only the mothers-of-bride/groom age ladies wore knee length with little jackets stuff.

Is it an Italian's wedding, or a wedding in Italy?

X posted with you there, OP.

That is more or less how every woman was dressed at the last one I went to. Except me. I was in white Boden jeans and a floaty chiffon pleated top.

playingup · 12/06/2015 08:44

Drank, thanks for posting.

It's a wedding in Italy, no Italian guests, all will be English / irish !

I love that blue dress, electric blue suits me very much I think it's my colour. But floor length dresses do look odd on me because of my height (or lack of it)

Depends on where you are. I'm in Rome, and something like this (both outfits, obv not white, with a bit more focus on shoes and bags) would be the norm (they are in LA, but I see stuff like this all the time). I'd avoid pattern, Italians seem to prefer powder pastels and jewel tones. I think it would be best to ask the bride/ her mother/ sisters about dress code specifics and hem lengths. If it's a proper society wedding, it can be floor length couture ballgowns, but we live next door to a church so I see lots of more down-to-earth dress codes too. As a foreigner you can wear whatever you want, though.

FrugalFashionista · 12/06/2015 08:45

Okay, if it is a wedding in Italy you will just wear whatever you would wear to a hot weather wedding at home.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 12/06/2015 08:48

I agree with FF, then. If it's not going to be an Italian wedding, then I think the "rules" are much less rigid.

you probably won't have to spend a month's wages on the wedding present either

playingup · 12/06/2015 08:48

It's in sorrento. There isn't a dress code as such, just weddingy!?

I do like that white dress in the picture linked, obviously in a different colour. Although it seems to be a bit baggy around the bust which would be no good to me...

Sorrento is all about tourism, so that sets the tone. It is very beautiful area, do visit Capri and take the pretty road to Amalfi if you have time.

playingup · 12/06/2015 09:28

All lovely dresses, notthe, they're good but they're not the one! Thank you though.

Does it have to be plain?

This Whistles dress is patterned but it has a lovely sleek nipped in shape and has some sleeves.

playingup · 12/06/2015 10:48

Sorry Anna, not keen on yellow or the pattern. Sorry!

Oh god I don't know anymore. Confused

Cotton with a waist under budget, print but a lovely classic shape

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 12/06/2015 10:57

Will be slightly longer on you, so more stylish than the photo

playingup · 12/06/2015 10:59

Oh god. Sorry closer, it's not the one.

The more I look at that reiss one the more I love it. But it's too short and too high in the neck, and too expensive. I've never tried on that shape dress and I imagine it would look awful on my voluptuous body. But it's different and chic and, oh I don't know, so not me but something I'd love to wear.

Sorry, rambling now!

Please don't give up on me guys. I need help!! I'm looking myself but I just can't see anything. Confused

OP posts:
CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 12/06/2015 11:00

Maybe too pale?

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 12/06/2015 11:01

Simple and chic

playingup · 12/06/2015 11:01

I might go and try it on just so I can rule it out or love it and then cry because I can't afford it

OP posts:
CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 12/06/2015 11:02

Pleated skirt

playingup · 12/06/2015 11:03

Yup, too pale . The second one is lovely but not the one.

Can I just say I really appreciate everyone's contribution and once again, please don't give up on me Confused

OP posts:
playingup · 12/06/2015 11:05

Pleats make my arse look gigantic...

Worth trying on the reiss one to either put it out of your mind or work out what to scrimp on to up the dress budget - if it's in John Lewis etc you might be able to get 20% off on one of their random sale days?

If you are upping the budget, though, you might have more choice as natural fabrics tend to cost more than synthetic
