These jeans...stylish or bloody awful?

CointreauVersial · 19/05/2015 12:48

I just bought these jeans from M&S Limited Edition, having seen them on a blog (baaa....).

I'm 5 foot 7, forty-cough-cough years old and a size 10. I do like a cropped leg. They fit nicely. A bit different from the usual. But family have given them the universal thumbs down.

DS said "meh" (what does he know?)
DD1 said "no, they're awful" (but she's still denying the 70s revival)
DH said "it looks like they were too short, and you've just taken down the hems" (um...OK, can't argue with that one)

What do you think?

It's the thing at the bottom I don't like, I'm not keen on cropped trosers at the best of times but that looks distinctly odd.

QueenofallIsee · 19/05/2015 12:53

They are gopping OP, sorry! Also never seen a camel toe on an empty pair of trousers! amazing

ephemeralfairy · 19/05/2015 12:54

I quite like them. Very Chloe Sevigny. I think you'd need to be careful what shoes you wore them with though. Those block heels in the pic are quite good, wedges maybe too for the 70s thing. You could try some ballet pumps and a plain top for a sort of Audrey Hepburn vibe
Birkenstocks or trainers wouldn't work.

ephemeralfairy · 19/05/2015 12:55

Although the weird stripe at the bottom does look a bit odd I agree.

EverythingButTheKitchenSink · 19/05/2015 13:06

Sorry I agree with your DH, they look like my jeans when I was a teenager and stood on the hems until they ripped and became longer...

CointreauVersial · 19/05/2015 13:09

I mean, DH is correct - they are designed to look as if someone has let the hem down on a pair of too-short trews, complete with ironed-in fold and unfaded bits....

No more contrived than the current ripped/patched trend, though. I'm not a rip fan.

OP posts:
moogalicious · 19/05/2015 13:12

Vile - sorry! They look really frumpy.

cardoon · 19/05/2015 13:13

I think they're OK - the 40 bum lady has them....

ItsRainingInBaltimore · 19/05/2015 13:17

Erm…I'm not sure. The bottoms are a bit odd and they look bloody awful with those mid height black sandals but they definitely have potential to look really cute on someone really slim and stylish the right size/shaped person with different shoes, maybe ballet flats, loafers or Birkies, and a slouchy knit off one shoulder, or a Breton top or similar.

CointreauVersial · 19/05/2015 13:23

..."really slim and stylish".....

BerniceBobsHerHair · 19/05/2015 14:01

I really like them and also bought them in a sheep like manner, having seen them on a blog.

They were too short on me but I do like the hem.

dexter73 · 19/05/2015 14:08

I quite like the hem bit.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 19/05/2015 14:10

I hate them. I don't like cropped things that are baggy at the bottom. If it's cropped or 7/8 length it needs to be slim fit/skinny/tailored for me.

dexter73 · 19/05/2015 14:14

To answer your question though I don't think they are stylish or bloody awful. They are an ok pair of cropped jeans. As you said they are a bit different from the distressed or patched jeans and if you like them and they fit you well then I would keep them.

MisForMumNotMaid · 19/05/2015 14:15

Trouble is your bubble is now burst and that seed of doubt will remain if you ever want to wear them out.

I'm completely unfashionable, i generally like comfort and cut over fashion. I quite like them. I like the hem/ cuff its a bit different and on a warm day with a simple top and simple shoes they'd be fun.

Hobby2014 · 19/05/2015 14:33

I can't see them. The link doesn't work for me. Waaaaaaaahhhh.

ItsRainingInBaltimore · 19/05/2015 15:00

To be honest they are only jeans and if you find them comfy and versatile who cares? It's like you will be wearing them when you go to collect your OBE from Her Madge or anything, is it?

I look atrocious most days but I dress for comfort and practicality. I know when it's important to look good and when it's not. Grin

BritabroadinAsia · 19/05/2015 15:38

I think they are potentially v stylish, but have just missed the mark - shape is good, fading to centre of leg also nice, but I think the rather dramatic contrast between the 'hem' and the fold line makes them look a bit contrived, IYSWIM?

BadgersArse · 19/05/2015 16:15

whic blog
I like them but I have skinny legs and would make my feet look like twigs

foraret · 19/05/2015 16:22

I'm only five foot one so I'd avoid them but on you, 5'7" and size ten, they'd be lovely. I like them, they're a nod to the 70s. And they're a bit different.

BerniceBobsHerHair · 19/05/2015 16:22

All Worn Out

BuggerMeInBurnley · 19/05/2015 16:30

Oh god, I really hate them with a passion. I think they're too old for you, OP. They look like they might have once had aspirations of being stylish but have failed hopelessly and ended up as another item of indiscriminate rags in M&S.

I go hate cropped trousers of any kind though and find them very very dated.

I also don't really get the blog. Is this woman meant to be some kind of fashion blogger? Or someone you take fashion advice from? It just looks like she posts pictures of herself wearing high street clothes. As in, she doesn't look like she's found something in the high street and made it look really sophistocated and expensive. She just looks like a normal woman, wearing normal clothes so not sure why anyone would be taking fashion advice/tips from the blog...

BuggerMeInBurnley · 19/05/2015 16:33

Dug around the blog some more, I get what they're going for now!

Still think they're failing miserably- just a group of women in high street clothes Confused

hairhelpplease · 19/05/2015 16:38

I didn't like the jeans until I saw them on the blog and quite like them. I do like jeans, shirt and blazer though. I am ordering those shoes!

BadgersArse · 19/05/2015 17:00

hm they don't look nice on the blogger tbh.

She wears really scruffy stuff
