These jeans...stylish or bloody awful?

I just bought these jeans from M&S Limited Edition, having seen them on a blog (baaa....).

I'm 5 foot 7, forty-cough-cough years old and a size 10. I do like a cropped leg. They fit nicely. A bit different from the usual. But family have given them the universal thumbs down.

DS said "meh" (what does he know?)
DD1 said "no, they're awful" (but she's still denying the 70s revival)
DH said "it looks like they were too short, and you've just taken down the hems" (um...OK, can't argue with that one)

What do you think?

I only like skinnies cropped just above ankle Those jeans are quite short even on mt 5'5 they were a def short

burnishedsilver · 19/05/2015 18:06

On the m&s website they look awful, as usual. I like them on the blogger.

theladylovescupcakes · 19/05/2015 18:49

I have them and love them. Although I'm slightly gutted that they're now a "thing" on the mum blogs. I'm not a sheep. Really.

noddyholder · 19/05/2015 19:06

They do look good on I don't like on the blog though but its the jacket and shoes not my cup of tea

mooth · 19/05/2015 19:36

I don't understand them, sorry.

Valsoldknickers · 19/05/2015 19:45

Sorry, but they look bloody awful.

They aren't particularly wide, actually! Not like those monster flares M&S did recently; if you wore those in a high wind you'd be half way across the North Sea.

But the contrast between the two denim colours at the hem is quite strong, so it does draw the eye a little. A "feature".

Strangely enough, something about them makes me think back to the 70s and 80s when mums across the land would sew a panel of fabric/lace/rick-rack to the bottom of your jeans when you grew too tall, just to get a few month's extra wear out of them. Or was that just my mum? Blush Anyway, Grin possibly not the look I was aiming for...

No not flappy. I like teh feature! Have seen the ones just plain and they just look like too short

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/05/2015 19:52

I like them and hey, it is just a pair of jeans - wear and enjoy!

I also think the lady in the blog looks fab and clearly enjoys clothes. [for disclosure purposes she is a lovely person who I know in RL]

Loving the sneering on this thread about high street - makes a change as normally it is the high end purchases that are much derided on here.

As a total aside since CV mentioned the M&S flares - have flares taken off round your parts? I'm in the south west and have hardly seen anyone in them.

FatAli · 19/05/2015 19:53

I want to like them, but I hate them.

noddyholder · 19/05/2015 19:55

The blog lady doesn't float my boat style wise (although I'm sure she is lovely) but if you think she is scruffy you should see me!

CointreauVersial · 19/05/2015 19:58

MrsCB - I haven't seen a single person in flares (Surrey). My teens refuse to believe that they are "back".

Quite a few in bootcuts, but they are mainly the skinny jeans avoiders that never stopped wearing them the first time around.

Yeap same round here CV. I reckon they may come out a bit in the summer with high wedges but with this rain/hail just too risky.

ouryve · 19/05/2015 20:05

It's definitely the bottoms that are odd. Too much contrast.

MitzyLeFrouf · 19/05/2015 20:06

Not one sighting of flares in Glasgow. I did see a man in a top hat today though.

nilbyname · 19/05/2015 20:08

noddy I'm SW and I have worn my old top shop high waisted flares. But then it got bastard cold, and I'm back in skinnies and ankle boots!

I have about eightyeleven thousand pairs of jeans. I love denim.

PoppysStyle · 19/05/2015 20:08

I love them - check out School Run Style/Mum on IG wearing them too - they look fab - super cool and different. The AWO blog is one of my favorites - it's good to be adventurous with clothes

QuickQuickSloe · 19/05/2015 20:14

Also never seen a camel toe on an empty pair of trousers!

Grin

Sorry OP, I have no helpful style comment to make, but had to share my appreciation for this ^^

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/05/2015 20:14

I would be scared to count how many pairs of jeans I have. Also have lovely stella denim skirt but it is too cold to wear it yet.

Nice to see Poppy on here Smile

dexter73 · 19/05/2015 20:16

No flares in Oxfordshire, just old school bootcuts+mumboots.
I actually prefer blogs where they don't wear the same sort of clothes as I do as I like to see something a bit different. If I wanted to see 50 versions of skinny jeans and a stripy top then I can just look in the mirror. I am not adventurous with clothes myself (and I'm perfectly happy with that) but I like seeing other people doing it.

Shopgirl1 · 19/05/2015 20:17

I love them, think they look great on the All Worn Out blog, I don't love the jacket with them, but in general I think that blogger has great style and these are a great fun summer jeans.

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/05/2015 20:20

Yeap Dexter, I'm not very adventurous either.

The most entertaining blog at the moment though is her birth story is just so similar to mine Wink

PoppysStyle · 19/05/2015 20:21

Hi Mrs CB ;) I have ordered the as I love the H&M flared dark hemmed jeans so much - totally polarizing but that is why I love fashion - J.Crew and Rachel Comey have similar pairs too.

These jeans...stylish or bloody awful?
MrsCampbellBlack · 19/05/2015 20:21

And how I wish I had placed a bow on my newborn daughter's head Wink

dexter73 · 19/05/2015 20:23

WTF is that bow all about? Is it glued on?!!
