Hi Winters!

I'm the last person to ask for make-up advice. I know what I like and like what I know. I'm currently rotating Mac Capricious and Plumful, and wear for both day and evening.

Bought the New Look high-waisted coated jeans in black (these aren't coated jeans - they're just pleather!), and they're fab! Much better than the depressing pleather trousers I tried in a variety of shops last winter. I think only available in black, but in a variety of lengths (normal length was absolutely fine for me - 5'7", if anything they're slightly longer than I'd like). Hoping they'll see me through the party season. www.newlook.com/shop/womens/jeans/black-coated-high-waist-super-skinny-jeans-_352630801?productFind=search

Also bought a beautiful black silk top from the Jaegar outlet sale when they were doing an extra 40% off. It's slightly on the short side, but looks great with a high waisted tube skirt (and ok with the coated trousers, but slightly Milk Tray...): www.jaegeroutlet.com/Long-Sleeved-Silk-Top/650079J,en_GB,pd.html?dwvar_650079J_color=00100&dwvar_650079J_size=6&start=6&q=silk%20black%20top

mimiasovitch · 17/11/2015 23:10

Nice top. I bought this in both colours. I love the purple, but the red was just too tomato for me.

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 20/11/2015 17:59

Think I would agree with QueenCardi - I love burgundy, it's one of my best colours, but I am indeed a sultry winter.

L'Oreal lippie... ooh... I haven't come across cassis passion before. So can someone tell me please if it will suit a sultry winter?

mimiasovitch · 20/11/2015 19:29

Yes Sarah it will. I'm a sultry and it's a favourite of mine. I was just coming here with a shout out to another new lipstick. Following another thread about lipsticks somewhere on here, I ordered a few from Kiko. I am now wearing a gorgeous cherry red that is bold but not strident. I feel like Snow White. It's the velvet Matt in 608. I've been so good at not buying any for ages, but I am pleased I fell off the wagon, so to speak.

Plumpysoft · 20/11/2015 19:33

Thanks Mimi - I just bought the Jaeger wrap top in violet! x

mimiasovitch · 20/11/2015 19:50

Glad I could help Grin

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 22/11/2015 09:41

I've just ordered the cassis passion lipstick... Smile Thanks Mimi

Stokey · 22/11/2015 12:45

Ooh I'd like a new lipstick. Something plum or burgundy. Maybe Cassis passion is what I need. Interestingly I was out a few months ago with a girl who had a great red lipstick on that she told me was from Kiko.

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 22/11/2015 13:32

Was out shopping yesterday and passed a Kiko shop... I'm sure it wasn't there last time I went. Didn't have time to pop in, though it looked full of teenagers (eek!) How do they feel Mimi? I found some reviews online that suggested they were a little dry to apply.

Mamia15 · 22/11/2015 17:39

Another sultry winter here - I have the Cassis Passion and its great. I love the sound of the red one at Kiko and will have a look for it.

For plum - try Boots No 7's Plum Beautiful. I use it a lot.

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 22/11/2015 17:55

I had a bit of a lipstick clearout after I had my colours done and have been exclusively using HoC ones as I knew they would work for me but I've been looking for something new now. I do have the HoC nos 27 and 711 but on my less confident days I feel they're a bit... well, full on - I'm happier with plums Smile

mimiasovitch · 22/11/2015 19:52

It feels lovely on. I also bought another one - the unlimited stylo. Though I don't live the colour as much it goes on beautifully. Is that No7 one similar at all to Mac plumful? Dd1 keeps pinching mine, and I'm not paying £15 for a 14 year old.

TheDaerieQueene · 08/12/2015 11:06

I've just been draped as a Bright Winter in the Sci-Art 12 season system. That's Winter on the border with BrightSpring which I think makes me a Sprinter Winter in HoC? Following for inspiration and because most of my wardrobe seems to be summer or autumn...(didn't disagree with the draping though - I think I prefer soft colours but the clear drapes did look better on me).

mimiasovitch · 09/12/2015 10:35

Sometimes it just takes a bit of adjustment. I was utterly convinced that I looked good in coral, cream and grass green, amongst other colours, and it was a shock to find that it wasn't the case. Not that people would have stopped to point or anything. It's all about the comparison with the good colours. Now I can clearly see how those previous favourites make me look yellow and wouldn't dream of wearing them, as they jar with the rest of my wardrobe, as well as my skin tone. I do sometimes veer into summer shades though, for example a softer aubergine than is truly winter, but as long as it all works that's fine.

SorrelForbes · 09/12/2015 19:59

Bought this at the weekend. Very close to shade 8 but alas it now seems to be out of stock.

Mamia15 · 11/12/2015 17:28

Was in Hobbs today and they have loads of jewel colours - emerald, fuchsia, cobalt and a couple of other winter colours including a beautiful magenta/berry shade.

Happy50 · 30/09/2016 22:42

Hoc winters - I need some inspiration
What is everyone wearing/buying this Autumn /winter

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 01/10/2016 14:09

I need help too... I accidentally Blush bought the Hamble Oak brogues in burgundy (partly because I was so pleased to see soemthing in my colour and my narrow fitting) but I'm not sure what to wear with them. I don't do little tea dresses... any ideas?

Stokey · 01/10/2016 16:52

Hello winters thread, welcome back.

A denim skirt Sarah or a midi skirt or pinafore? They'd also look good with ankle grazer trousers. I have some brown ones that I wore a lot for work before being diagnosed.

Hi Happy, there's quite a bit of green in the shops at the moment. So far this season I've bought a green shirt from H&M, a black & green reversible bomber from Topshop, and a navy pinafore also from TS. There's a green jumpsuit from Hush that I also have my eye on, am going to end up looking like a forest at this rate.

I've been really liking the Clinque Grandest Grape chubby stick as we're getting more autumnal. Does anyone know of a similar shade lippy as the chubby stick doesn't have great staying power?

Happy50 · 01/10/2016 17:54

Thank you
There is a few green tops I like the look at from h and m
I liked a cord pinafore but probably need it a little longer for work as I'm 5 8 and over 50
Apart for a few special events the dress code is very relaxed
Need to start wearing a little bit of make up again
I did when I was first diagnosed as a winter Jewel but sort of let myself go.
Any lip stick that's not too strong ?

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 08/10/2016 13:53

Like this Stokey?

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 19/02/2017 12:13

So is this thread still live or are all the winters out there hibernating? What has everyone been looking at for spring/summer?

mimiasovitch · 19/02/2017 15:15

Hello Sarah. Well done on digging up the thread from times gone by! I haven't yet been thinking about warmer weather, and the many clothes I will need to purchase, though I have bought some fabric ready for summer dresses. I haven't been into my sewing room for a few months, but the will is there, somewhere.

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 19/02/2017 19:29

Ooh, that's creative!

I have just ordered this jumper from Baukjen so I hope it's a proper winter navy and white! I haven't bought anything from Baukjen before but it looked lovely...

standingonlego · 19/02/2017 19:51

Great to see this thread back...I bought a green and white stripy t shirt yesterday. Look like a retro pacers advert but I love it Grin
