I quite like fuchsia with navy for brightness and contrast, but I do worry it looks a bit mother-of-the-bride somehow.... Confused

NeitherHereOrThere · 04/09/2015 17:04

I wear quite a bit of navy too - worn with dark red, burgundy, silver/pale grey, pine green, magenta, plum and purple.

SorrelForbes · 04/09/2015 19:02

I bought this today to wear to a christening in a fortnight's time. It's a fairly good match for shade 31 (ice blue?) but a bit more grey. A silvery grey I suppose. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's 'icy' and a winter shade .

Any ideas on what to wear with it? I'm thinking either charcoal or navy court shoes or maybe ankle boots? What type of jacket (I can't do cardigans). Help. Grin

AmberNectarine · 05/09/2015 09:17

sultry winter, checking in.

Sorrel that dress is definitely winter. It's lovely. Because it's so simple It would be good with a more interesting jacket, maybe brocade or something with military details/Nehru collar. ISTR you are a romantic classic, or did I make that up?

SorrelForbes · 05/09/2015 10:18

Phew! I haven't actually taken it out of the bag yet just in case.

Yes, I am indeed a romantic classic so can add a bit of interest through texture, sparkle etc. I'm wondering whether to do very high black ankle boots and a black fitted jacket as opposed to a more 'feminine' wrap/cardigan type thing and courts. I tend to look much better when things are 'smart'.

didireallysaythat · 05/09/2015 10:26

Anyone relishing the change in the temperature ? I'm back into the comfort zone of navy or black dresses, dark jeans, boots (hooray - no idea what the style day meant by pretty shoes!), lipstick and a scarf.

Still need a black leather handbag that can accomodate an A4 diary and laptop/overnight stay clothes if anyone's seen one ? Smile

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 19/09/2015 11:29

Not that keen on the change in the temperature (less still the rain!) but love the autumn colours - all that damson and navy that seems to be around. Finding it hard to rein myself in... Blush

mimiasovitch · 19/09/2015 18:44

Where's the damson Sarah??? I feel the need to buy something that's not royal blue!

shadesofwinter · 19/09/2015 19:03

We've had a beautiful day here, a little out of the blue after a miserable week but much appreciated.

I bought some great pine/forest (?) green jeans in Zara the other day, really pleased with them. Also bought some light-ish navy Mary Janes from Clarks - think it's my first pair of Clarks shoes since childhood Grin

I'm after a decent (ie good quality) grey or black tube skirt and some new boots that satisfy my ingenue requirements - easier said than done!

Anybody bought anything nice recently?

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 20/09/2015 13:03

Fatface seems to be full of damson... bought some leggings in Uniqlo... think White Stuff was as well, I seem to have been in a lot of shops recently and thought "ooh, love the colours!" but have managed to resist, at least for the moment. OK, at least until I've sorted out what I might buy from Kettlewell. Then it will depend what's left in the budget!

Monica101 · 23/09/2015 19:42

Hobbs has a good green in at the moment - it's called celtic green but seems to be a good winter pine in some items.

I have just bought this coat and i'm really pleased with it. The colour is quite clear and cold in real life. Nice and warm too.

SorrelForbes · 23/09/2015 20:36

We've just bought a house (well, we complete tomorrow) so I'm on a temporary spending ban Sad. Typical really as my winter wardrobe could do with a bit of sprucing up. I wore my (limited) selection of work clothes to death last year and they're looking a bit tired. So, I'm trying to be good; today I threw away three catalogues without even opening them first to have a browse Grin

Happy50 · 27/09/2015 23:29

Do you think either of these dresses are HOC winter.
I'm a natural injenue - which I think may fit but not sure of colour as I'm jewel winter

Happy50 · 27/09/2015 23:30

The colours are labelled smoke and plum.

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 30/09/2015 20:20

Hard to tell, though it might be my screen, but I wonder if it isn't a bit blue-grey and summery? The plum looks like a good colour to me though.

Happy50 · 30/09/2015 22:49

Thank you yes I thought it may be.
There are free returns so I may try it out and report back

mimiasovitch · 01/10/2015 07:25

They both look a little soft to me, but there's no harm in trying them. The burgundy tights look very right, so they could just need some judicious accessorising. I bought a black pencil skirt yesterday, with a pink floral print. The flowers are all deep summery colours, but I figure that with the right sweater it'll winter up lovely! Now I just need the weather to cooperate. All this sunshine is playing havoc with what I actually want to wear Grin

ForSaleChesterDraws · 25/10/2015 16:13

Help! I need a casual outfit for family pics in the park next week. I'm a sultry winter, natural romantic, size 16. Skinniest like hideous on me. I was thinking skirt and top or day dress with my black suede knee boots. I have a mid grey leather biker jacket. Any inspiration?

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 25/10/2015 21:31

I like the sound of a mid-grey biker jacket and black suede boots... it's just a question of what you put between them! Grin

A day dress sounds like it would hit the right note but I'm a natural classic and not very good with romantic, so I'm not going to be much help, sorry, but it sounds like you're 2/3 of the way there anyway.

ForSaleChesterDraws · 25/10/2015 21:39

I've also ordered Nars matte lip pencil in damned for the pictures too!

HopefulAnxiety · 25/10/2015 22:27

Hope I can get some advice even as I save up for getting my colours done properly. I'm pretty sure I'm a Winter but I really struggle with the plum/burgundy end of the spectrum. I must be not be able to easily tell when they're cool toned because so often they make me look so sallow and ill Confused All other Winter colours are fine though.

For plus sizes, Yours Clothing has some pine/forest green leggings in along with other Winter colours - but I love pine/forest green and can never find enough of it in my size.

IsaBisaBuildsaBoat · 16/11/2015 21:50

Hello fellow Winters! I am a jewel winter. Thought I'd just revive this thread - I have been on these in the past under a different name.

Ive been looking at YSL Vernis a Levres lipstains as I hear they are the bomb for stains that last. Has anyone tried any? It is hard for me to get to a counter and I'd like a winter-y pink that is good for very day wear.

mimiasovitch · 17/11/2015 00:19

I've not tried those, but I generally prefer lipsticks. I find stains wear off on the inside, leaving a look of lip liner behind. Not great when you're a fan of bolder shades! I cannot recommend the loreal colour riche puppies enough. The cassis passion mentioned here a number of times is a fabulous daytime (anytime) pink. I have several just in case now!

IsaBisaBuildsaBoat · 17/11/2015 08:13

Oh, I love that one too! I'm just always in the market for something that lasts and thought I'd try those YSL VdL as they come so highly recommended.

QueenCardi · 17/11/2015 08:20

Hi winters, it's good to see the thread revived!
Not tried any ysl lipsticks. I have so many lipsticks now that I really don't need anymore!
Just going back to hopefuls post in October-I too aren't great with burgundy but I'm at the spring end of the spectrum so am better in the blues and brighter colours. The burgundy is more of a sultry winter colour. I've also found that a lot of burgundies are quite dark and plummy toned wheras if you're a jewel/sprinter then you probably need a bright burgundy iyswim.
