Sandals for schlepping for miles around city streets

Any recs? Tan, black or grey and as comfortable as humanly possible without looking like my gran would wear them. Absolutely no to Fitflops, Ecco, or anything that looks as if Millets might sell it. Not totally flat, and ideally with some nice squidginess in them. Not flip flops and no toe post. Must have straps and not just be slider things or mules.

No more than £60 and would prefer less, as they'll get wrecked quite quickly.

I may well be asking the impossible.

What a fab thread, wonderful suggestions, thank you Smile

ElizabethHoover · 20/04/2015 06:53

Tbh I've spent so long on the thread I AM GOING TO TRY GO WALKS. I don't need them. Im just getting Stockholm syndrome.

BabyGanoush · 20/04/2015 07:33

I totally know what you mean OP!

Italian shoes are best, but not easy to find in the UK. When in Italy you will simply see tows and riws of shoe shops with holy grsil shoes where fashion meets comfort meets elegance...

Proper grown up shoes....

But until you can get yourself to Italy...

I sometimes buy pikolinos, but they are not quite IT.

Last year I thought: sod it abd wire trainers and got laughed at by my friendsAngry they said the white trainer jeans skirt combo is hillarious ...

Buy shoes on the mainland, the UK does not get the concept, as you seeSad

agoodbook · 20/04/2015 08:29

Right- I came back and have seen all the other ones, you didn't like the merrells, but I also I love geox, and they do sandals - again a bit pricey, but worth a look?

polyhymnia · 20/04/2015 08:36

I'm a Geox fan and find them incredibly confortabke.

Have two pairs of their sandals, in blue and also in tan, very like those Sukie from 2 years ago which have done a huge amount of pain free city walking and still going strong ( though rather fancy the Sukie).

DeathMetalMum · 20/04/2015 08:48

Doe those of you who wear trainers with shorts etc wear no socks? I really can't do trainers and no socks my feet get horribly sweaty and smelly after a few hours.

I've heard good things about reef sandals I like These but I need a toe post on sandals otherwise I would have them. I also doubt you would be able to try them in a shop.

Do you have a sketchers shop/outlet near you? I got some really fab sandals this time last year from sketchers outlet - they're my comfiest pair of footwear and I have walked miles in them including cobbles. I can't find a link anywhere online for the same range though.

polyhymnia · 20/04/2015 10:01

I wear those trainer liners which don't actually show with trainers in summer.

stripytees · 20/04/2015 10:08

BabyGanoush To be fair, most of the shoes posted on this thread are from brands based on the continent - for example Camper, Art and El Naturalista are Spanish and Ecco is Danish. I think Rieker is German as is Birkenstock.

everythingsgoingsouth · 20/04/2015 10:10

too many to link, but ebay "geox sandals" a few that fit the criteria ,not frumpy/chunky,not absolutely flat, soft soles etc.

dexter73 · 20/04/2015 10:12

I don't wear socks with my trainers. I have weirdly unsweaty feet so don't ever get smelly trainers. I do chuck them in the washing machine if they look grubby.

NeitherHereOrThere · 20/04/2015 15:06

Trainers socks here too

florascotia · 20/04/2015 16:50

OP I have narrow feet and found these stayed in place OK last year because of the strap across the instep. The rubber sole was very comfortable.

ww.amazon.co.uk/Fly-London-Womens-Leather-P500400006/dp/B00ARRM4PA/ref=sr_1_1?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1429543622&sr=1-1&keywords=fly+london+shoes+Paly

I sized down, as most of the Amazon reviewers suggest: the fit is indeed a bit eccentric - long in proportion to the width, and the strap is definitely roomy.

I'd buy another pair this year, but am not sure if they are making them. They have similar low-heeled, non-platform styles, however. I am rather tempted by these Womens-Closed-Toe-Pumps/dp/B00H88A9D0/ref=pd_sim_sh_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=19S044K9KK8W40S6HGWK

aoife24 · 20/04/2015 16:58

I have a pair of Varcas which I find very comfy. I got mine from Toast, so online for me, not sure where you might find tem on the high street.

I like those red wedge things! Maybe a bit high though? Can they be bought anywhere in real shops, do you know?

You're all lovely. Thank you for your patience and I promise to at least go and try some Go Walk on.

OMG, Remus likes the red wedges! Shock Grin [happydance] [incomfyshoes]

marshmum · 20/04/2015 19:21

No-one has mentioned Panama Jack yet. I love their sandals and live in them all summer. I've got flat ones I can walk forever in and wedges that are super comfy too. Quite a good range on Amazon or their website. They're a bit pricier than Clarks etc at £60 - 90 a pair but very well made. I saw them mentioned on another thread last week and I agree with that pp, they don't even need 'breaking in' because they are so comfy. Good luck with your search OP.

Galrick · 20/04/2015 19:26

Teva retailer search.

Returns: If, however, you change your mind for any reason about any goods ordered from the Teva website, you may return them FREE OF CHARGE for an exchange or refund within 30 days of receipt.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/04/2015 19:43

Thanks. We have a couple of stockists, so will go and have a try on.

I have these from a couple of summers ago. they are very very comfortable and go with everything.

a bit above your price range though.

hettie · 20/04/2015 20:44

I think I may have become obsessed by sandals Grin. I confess to be almost as fussy as remus, with very neurotic feet. I have been inspired by this site which has lots of lovely european brands on
Am currently being swayed by a toe post pair....
but quite like the ones with the ankle strap too (though worry it will rub)
