Sandals for schlepping for miles around city streets

Any recs? Tan, black or grey and as comfortable as humanly possible without looking like my gran would wear them. Absolutely no to Fitflops, Ecco, or anything that looks as if Millets might sell it. Not totally flat, and ideally with some nice squidginess in them. Not flip flops and no toe post. Must have straps and not just be slider things or mules.

No more than £60 and would prefer less, as they'll get wrecked quite quickly.

I may well be asking the impossible.

Why would you look ridiculous in trainers? What about something like this?

Timberland have a few pairs of nice plain sandals though over budget - I'm also lusting after a pair when did sandals get so ££. Here.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 17:14

Edith - don't like those, sorry.

I'm going to look at the Timberlands irl, as I do like the look of them.

Thanks for your patience, everyone. Grin

If you are going the Cons route after your searching, bear in mind that Skechers also do a 'fake con' style that might work for this trip. I can only find these on the website but I went to Brantano and found a different colour way (demin with pink or white laces I think).

If I was walking miles I would buy proper trekking sandals or wear trainers. Actually trainers with socks protect your feet much better. I know not the most fashionable but for me, comfort first!

Though get the right trainers and you can look cool.

workadurka · 19/04/2015 18:51

How about Heavenly Feet? Anyone tried those? Some ok styles on Debenhams website

NeitherHereOrThere · 19/04/2015 19:15

Honestly, with cobbles and hard pavements you would be much better off wearing footwear that has a proper sole. You look silly hobbling and limping after a hard day's sightseeing. If you are sightseeing, you're a tourist, no one cares how you look so you might as well wear trainers/keens/walking shoes etc.

Do not wear converses -these are not built for comfort or lots of walking on hard pavements/cobbles.

everythingsgoingsouth · 19/04/2015 19:39

sorry, haven't read all thread, but I'm wanting these .any good?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 19:45

Which ones, Everything?

Not heard of Heavenly Feet before. These have a v strange sole, but I like the top of them.

I won't be hobbling and limping. Survived London and Amsterdam in Converse, but would prefer more cushioning. And there's always a coffee shop when reaching the hobbling stage!

Do people wear trainers in the summer? With bare legs? With skirts? Or just with jeans?

Trainers are very fashionable. Even with skirts and dresses. You need to get New Balance or some old skool type Adidas or Puma. I like the look of trainers with dresses and skirts tbh.

dexter73 · 19/04/2015 19:55

I wear these for schlepping. I wear them with skirts, bare legs and jeans. I have a pair of Timberland sandals and they are ok but not as comfy as the plimsolls.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 19:59

Fashionable trainers look good with dresses on the beautiful young things on Pinterest, but what about on short, curvy, middle aged ladies? Grin

I also have Skechers go walk. They aren't the most attractive shoes in the world but they are like walking on marshmallows so I can overlook that!

chicaguapa · 19/04/2015 20:13

I came on to say Skechers Go Walk. I've never worn anything so comfortable in my life! I wore them at a theme park last week and my feet thanked me. Seen loads of teens wearing them too (not that it matters! Wink)

everythingsgoingsouth · 19/04/2015 20:13

oops,what a lemon I am!

My dd is 18 and wears my skechers go walk for work as she is on her feet from 9 to 6.30. She wore her trendy shoes once and then embraced the skechers as they were so comfortable!

FrugalFashionista · 19/04/2015 20:20

I totally don't understand this thread. You won't necessarily find a pair of footwear that matches all of your outfit options but what's wrong with mesh trainers? Those, a pair of caged wedge heel sandals, a pair of flat espadrilles, and a pair of flat K Jacques type tropeziennes, and I'd be set for most imaginable outfit options. They take very little space, I usually slip in a pair of Havs too, and I tend to travel hand luggage only. And I find high tops comfy for air travel - but go for ones that have a cushioned sole or slip in insoles that pamper your feet. Mesh trainers are much easier to wear in hot weather.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 20:20

Thanks all. I will try some Sketchers on - if they are as comfortable as you all say they are, then maybe I won't care what they look like!

i think i would wear trainers with shorts. I wear shorts a lot. I go to DLP with work every summer and wear flip flops as tbh its not the trek Mn makes it out to be.

for school other trips i have 'pub shoe' type trainers - new balance or similar

member · 19/04/2015 20:21

The grey ones avail in other colours including tan

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 20:23

Frugal - I haven't said that I want one pair of shoes for every scenario. I am just looking for some comfortable sandals.
