Sandals for schlepping for miles around city streets

Any recs? Tan, black or grey and as comfortable as humanly possible without looking like my gran would wear them. Absolutely no to Fitflops, Ecco, or anything that looks as if Millets might sell it. Not totally flat, and ideally with some nice squidginess in them. Not flip flops and no toe post. Must have straps and not just be slider things or mules.

No more than £60 and would prefer less, as they'll get wrecked quite quickly.

I may well be asking the impossible.

cheap esska sandals with squishy footbeds

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 13:17

I linked to a flat tan pair at Hobbs on another thread the other day. I love them, but they are too flat for what I'm after now, and are far too expensive anyway. I also really like these Next ones and might try them on as a possible pair for weekend wear, but they are too flat for pavement pounding.

I'm not feeling the Art ones tbh, and the Office links aren't working for me. I'll try the Sketcher things on, and see how daft they might look with rolled up skinnies or a pair of shorts for example.

oh NO to Ecco.
hmm
would be obv choice.

Twitchcoco · 19/04/2015 13:17

I'm trying to track down a pair of Lotus Rhona sandals in my size. Tried them on and they felt like air. They're a suede finish and I like them but they might be a fashion crime for some. It's hard to know!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 13:18

Ecco way too expensive, even if they did a pair which I loved (which they don't).

Not fond of the metallic ones either.

Oh bugger.. You said tan. Sorry.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 13:25

Sorry Elizabeth but I really hate those Sketchers ones - they look like boats.

is this for Berlin?
I would get the skechers and shove a pair of flip flops in if your feet get hot

ElizabethHoover · 19/04/2015 13:27

just wear trainers. All tourists wear trainers. For a reason

tethersend · 19/04/2015 13:29

If it's Berlin, EVERYONE wears Sensible Shoes. It's so relaxed, no fashion pressure at all. Love it.

tethersend · 19/04/2015 13:29

Otherwise, I found what you're looking for Grin

I'm happy to wear sensible shoes - but not ugly sensible shoes, blingy sensible shoes, Millets-esque sensible shoes or, indeed, many of the sensible shoes seen thus far on here. I don't like flip flops except for the beach - wouldn't wear them in a city (any city).

I'm going to try the Clarks ones, Hushpuppies ones and the plain black Sketchers Mary Janes. If all of those fail, I will investigate squidgy insoles for my Converse. I look a nob in trainers.

What size are you, Remus?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 13:37

Elizabeth - you have found the ideal combination of everything I hate in that latest pair. Clunky. Metallic. Colourful. Reminsicent of 1970s astronaut-inspired fashion. Do people actually wear such things?

OP posts:
ThePaperBagPrincess · 19/04/2015 13:38

Have you seen these ones from Clarks?

tethersend · 19/04/2015 13:40

Ok, don't laugh, but if you're a size 5 or less, I bought these for DD and they are moulded, squidgy, light and adjustable for a perfect fit. They would be perfect for lots of walking.

They come in tan/coral and tan/pink too.

ElizabethHoover · 19/04/2015 13:41

i have the PERFECT pair
