Sandals for schlepping for miles around city streets

Any recs? Tan, black or grey and as comfortable as humanly possible without looking like my gran would wear them. Absolutely no to Fitflops, Ecco, or anything that looks as if Millets might sell it. Not totally flat, and ideally with some nice squidginess in them. Not flip flops and no toe post. Must have straps and not just be slider things or mules.

No more than £60 and would prefer less, as they'll get wrecked quite quickly.

I may well be asking the impossible.

Hush puppies or Anne Klein - can't get link to work but both available on debenhams website

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/04/2015 22:34

Has anybody seen these irl? I don't like them much but they do look squidgy and are cheap.

TK maxx also worth a look I just bought some esska tan sandals from there at under £20!

BestIsWest · 18/04/2015 22:41

Not seen those exact Hush Puppies but had v similar to these here last year and they were ok.

tethersend · 18/04/2015 22:46

not keen on the hush puppies... If we're heading into that territory, then why not good old M&S?

Suttonmum1 · 18/04/2015 22:51

I have had several pairs of Hush Puppies which were v similar to the Ceylon Sling, and they are v comfortable. Footbed well padded. Have worn them for a lot of schlepping around hot cities. So comfortable that I replaced them by scouring ebay for more, esp as I wanted a darker brown that is not available new.

Suttonmum1 · 18/04/2015 22:54

I do like those Nishi ones you found OP, think I might try and track some down in the flesh. Shockingly bad nail polish for a model though, when I zoomed in!

Oooh I really don't enjoy shoe shopping but sandle shopping is the Seventh Circle of Hell for me.

I need ajustable straps, squidgey soles and flat.
I have very narrow feet (rules out 99% of sandles) and the flat shiney lining of moany sandles makes my feet cry.
Birkies are a No for me.
Toe posts are hit and miss.

My favourite sandles of all time were FlyFlot but I don't know if they are still around.

A couple of years ago I bought "Earth Spirit" which are good (and will appear again this year) and some M&S gladiators ( only about 5 years behind everyone else in fashion)

hollyangel · 18/04/2015 23:40

I have these in the grey, but they're more of a pewter www.clarks.co.uk/p/20358885

Sooo comfortable, squidgy sole and walking is a dream in them! I think they look ok with skinnies and dresses so far, not as pretty as really dainty flat sandals, but I'm willing to forego that as they allow me to walk miles!!

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/04/2015 23:45

Naot, but they are often a bit lentil-weaverish.

If you can get thee to a Clarks Outlet/Factory Shop, they had loads of these at £24.99
flat gladiators
Super comfy, I walked miles in 'em last year.

Mytholmroyd · 19/04/2015 00:11

As someone upthread said, Rieker have always been my go to sandals for serious sightseeing in hot countries - soft suede-like padded footbed so no sliding on shiny plastic or leather and very comfy leather straps without being too frumpy.

Another vote for Reiker. I've bought two pairs the same just in case one wears out.

Everythingsgonegreen · 19/04/2015 09:39

Fly London Tram- have walked for miles in these over the years,

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 10:32

Holly - they were one of the Clarks pairs that I've made a note of to investigate irl. They look a bit daintier than the usual ones - necessary because I have narrow feet and skinny ankles.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 10:40

Thanks, all.

Fly are too wide for my narrow feet ime, and I'm not really sold on the clunkiness of them.

These Rieker ones look reasonably inoffensive, though I can't say I particularly like the look of them.

Looks like Clarks or Hushpuppies might be the way forward.

I had some Gabor ones a couple of years ago, having managed to find a slightly less gruesome pair in the sale. I thought the quality was bad for the price though, and they gave me blisters on the soles of my feet. Maybe they were a bit too wide?

Which streets are you going to be pounding Remus? What about some Sketchers? The do a really nice breathable pump with a soft memory insole, really comfy.

mistymeanour · 19/04/2015 10:47

The moshulu sandals are nice - like the range of colours.

PUGaLUGS · 19/04/2015 10:51

www.skechers.co.uk/style/13962/skechers-gowalk-2-convertible/stn. I tried these on, very comfy
