Sandals for schlepping for miles around city streets

Any recs? Tan, black or grey and as comfortable as humanly possible without looking like my gran would wear them. Absolutely no to Fitflops, Ecco, or anything that looks as if Millets might sell it. Not totally flat, and ideally with some nice squidginess in them. Not flip flops and no toe post. Must have straps and not just be slider things or mules.

No more than £60 and would prefer less, as they'll get wrecked quite quickly.

I may well be asking the impossible.

I've got a pair of Clarks v similar to Roya Hannah that there was a link to - super comfy and squishy and look surprisingly ok with lots of styles. Altho plain black fit flops also good! :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 10:53

I looked at Sketchers but they all looked to be either trainers or really ugly flip flop things.

The only thing I could even vaguely imagine looking anything less than freaking hideous on me was this pair but am not at all convinced, and I think it's likely to be warm.

Sorry Puga, but I really don't like those.

Doesn't seem that you like anything very much. What have you had in the past and liked? Give us a clue.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 11:14

I usually make do with Converse and some Clarks sandals or somesuch. Converse too flat for full days of sightseeing though.

I have had much the same problem and have found the most comfortable sandals ever.
Dont know how to post a link but they are by lotus, who i would not usaully touch with a bargepole, as mostly granny shoes, but these are nice and also comfy.
Style is lotus myrtill and they come in silver, black, white, gold or pewter £45
However, just found them in black for £25 and silver for £35
Hope these are of interest.

Zorion · 19/04/2015 11:17

Another rec for Sam Edelman, something like these or these - my Gigis (toe post so no good for you) are the most delicate looking yet surprisingly comfy sandals I own - really hidden squidginess.

But my birkenstocks are my city break best friend. LOVE them!

BillStickersIsInnocent · 19/04/2015 11:20

What did you think of the moshulu ones Remus? They're really comfy and a narrow fit.

Artandco · 19/04/2015 11:26

I would look at Birkenstocks again. I hate toe posts in all other flip flops but love them in the Birkenstocks. They do narrow and regular fit also. Take a week to wear in then super comfy. I have walked miles in mine including up hills and Small mountains, and completely off road in rugged terrain

TinklyLittleLaugh · 19/04/2015 11:27

How about these OP?

Or teva sandals. The tan leather ones are nice

Saurus72 · 19/04/2015 11:29

How about binning the sandals idea altogether and going down the Nike Airmax route? More comfy than Converse, yes they will be hotter than sandals but you will be supremely comfy.

hopefulpuffin · 19/04/2015 11:36

I'll also recommend Naot.

Or Wolky.

They aren't cheap but I've walked miles in them and had no problems. I've also had plantar fasciitis and need to be careful about what I wear.

Both Naot & Wolky have excellent support and are comfy right out of the box.

sassytheFIRST · 19/04/2015 11:40

My best sandals are Next sole survivor ones from last year. They are white, but otherwise fit your brief and are fine for miles of walking. Look nice too : worth a butchers??

catrin · 19/04/2015 12:30

Ah was just about to say Converse when I noticed your last post... I have just returned from 3 days in Rome / 4 million miles worth of sight seeing. I wore the thicker soled Cons. They were fine, but given the amount of walking, suspect nothing will truly minimise aching feet and back - at least I didn't get blisters...

squiz81 · 19/04/2015 12:34

Are you a no to saltwater sandals? I just got some tan ones from Office and they are very comfy.

I can't to Birkenstocks either, too hard and the bump in them doesn't match the arch in my foot. They were so painful.

Also in gold.

Fugghetaboutit · 19/04/2015 12:54

Open toe

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 12:54

Thanks again everyone.

I just want plain sandals - I don't like any of the ones with bling, or hippy embroidery or anything on them, and I don't like the ones that are walking sandals (the velcro ones).

I'll probably consider trainers too, but I do need some sandals. I'll have a look at Next.

This really shouldn't be so difficult!

Also in white, black and snake

Saurus72 · 19/04/2015 13:03

Hobbs have a lovely pair of flat sandals, am v tempted by them. £99 though Confused

stripytees · 19/04/2015 13:10

I got these Art Breathe sandals last week and they are really comfortable (light, soft insole, soft leather) and seem to go with everything. Most of the Amazon reviews say to size up but I didn't and my normal size fits perfectly. Art has many other styles too.

travailtotravel · 19/04/2015 13:11

The Skecher Go walk mary janes you linked to and said they might be too hot - I have worn a pair to death over the past year and can say they are not too hot and are ideal for pavement pounding for miles and miles. they are just on the right side of stylish not to stick out too much. Depends what you are going to wear when pounding pavements.

I know you initially rejected them but Teva have some excellent sandals that are designed for walking but not as obviously so as some.
