Sorry but can I ask how you remove hair "down there"?

mindifidont · 03/04/2015 09:08

Firstly I'd like to apologise if this is tmi or inappropriate...I hope it's not.

I'm really fighting a losing battle with this one.

I like to stay completely clean down there, like after a Brazilian, but waxing just hurts to much and I don't like having to go to a salon.

Shaving is easier but it grows back too quickly and I get inflamed hair sacks so get lots of red spots....not the look I'm after.

What magic tricks am I missing? Surely there's an easy, pain free method of getting smooth without the pain?

Remember those threads ....shocked that there were so many mingers myself actually

CookPassBabtrigde · 03/04/2015 19:49

pinkfrocks

Why do you care that other women shave their fannies?
When people refer to feeling mingy with hair, that's how THEY feel. They're not talking about you.

Only1scoop · 03/04/2015 19:49

And as for the lack tooth brushing ones don't even go there....

Only1scoop · 03/04/2015 19:50

Very defensive Pink....

Why so bothered by the bush?

Witchofthenorth · 03/04/2015 19:50

No more than the inference that women who don't are smelly and mingy

I haven't seen one post yet that states this. What they do state is that personally, those who do find it is smelly and uncomfortable.

This who do shave, have been told they are telling lies, have a problem, are talking bollocks and are causing the future generation of women no end of trouble

temperamentalamongcorvids · 03/04/2015 19:50

I get the feminist arguments and am inclined to agree that the bald look is influenced by porn, but genuinely prefer the bald feel during sex, especially oral. So I compromise by shaving my labia and undercarriage, and leaving a neat triangle in front. I use an exfoliating glove to prevent prickly regrowth.

Witchofthenorth · 03/04/2015 19:52

And I shower daily....and have also grown the bush when I can't be arsed removing the hair, still showered daily and still felt that I, as in only me personally, was smelly.

babygiraffe86 · 03/04/2015 20:14

Nobody has inferred that if you don't remove the hair you will smell - just that it is their preference and believe they do.

Those against it however have inferred that people who do remove the hair are wanting to look like porn stars, look like children, are lying to themselves, shouldn't do it, influencing children, at higher risk of infection (12 years removing all not had one yet) why can you leave yours as is but I not remove mine Without there being a problem?

As far as I'm aware those against it will never see my bits - so are not directly affected by it.
Must say I agree with pp though - the sensation during sex is one of the main reasons I'd say that people do it.

SkaterGrrrrl · 03/04/2015 20:47

Read The Beauty Myth.

Naomi Wolf argues that all these unnecessary, impossible-to-obtain standards of feminine beauty are there to oppress women, as a class. The sheer time and energy these bullshit standards take up (dieting being the worse as it literally saps our strength) stops us from doing other, better things.

If you didn't spend your weekends in tanning salons and waxing parlours, if you didn't spend every evening painting your toe nails and shaving your arm pits, dying your hair, plucking your eyebrows, what else could you achieve?

Could you get another degree, plant a tree, distribute pamphlets for a political party, play lead guitar in a punk band, write a poem, start a revolution?

Seriously, a couple of weeks ago a MN poster wrote that she shaves all her body hair, including arms, legs and fanjo EVERY DAY and my immediate response was, my god, how many books do you read a month?

RonaldMcDonald · 03/04/2015 20:51

blah blah blah

lots of books,
perhaps 'depilating thoroughly, a daily routine'
or 'how not to be bored to death by unwanted lectures on feminisim'

or maybe no books as she fucking chooses not to read
or a few books when she fancies

SkaterGrrrrl · 03/04/2015 20:53

I pity your daughters, RonaldMcDonald.

Witchofthenorth · 03/04/2015 20:55

5 minutes once a month on the fanjo and a ten second run over with razor every couple of days on my pits is hardly time consuming. Christ on a bike!! I waste more time on here than I do preening myself. GrinI've never been to a beauty parlour or tanning salon. I dye my hair every two months and never paint my nails.

I spend approx 6 hours a year removing body hair and dyeing my hair. I suppose I could do something else with that time....similarly, I could have had a million things done today, but I chose to spend it in front of judge judy and on here. Both are my choice to make.

Primadonnagirl · 03/04/2015 20:58

Can anybody advise me?? I'm happy with just trimming, but it's the hairs on my inner thighs that are a problem. Immac makes little difference .Currently shaving but dread the thought of stubble. Also cos Im fair skinned and dark haired I get terrible red shaving rash....

FrankSpencer · 03/04/2015 20:59

unfair, arrogant assumptions.
It's like they go, "Oh so you shave? Ahhh right, I've sussed you out. You must obviously do so because....X,Y,Z and I refuse to hear otherwise. "
And those who do hair removal just say....nothing against those who don't.

With all things considering, I'm impressed this thread hasn't turned nasty. Yet! Could you image if the latter were also just as insistent in a sanctamonius know it all attitude against the others - this thread would go Poof! I'm think they're being immensely restrained under the accusations.

Only1scoop · 03/04/2015 21:02

Exactly ....we are apparently influenced by the porn industry....and feel the need to resemble a 10 year old and of course....have no feminist standing whatsoever.

What a load of shite

I just choose to be smooth

Witchofthenorth · 03/04/2015 21:07

frankspencer YES!!

I now love you and holmes and only1scoop Smile

CookPassBabtrigde · 03/04/2015 21:09

My god, the snobbery on here.
So what if a woman wants to dye her hair, paint her nails, shave her legs? Someone wrote a book about it therefore we're all mindless oppressed idiots?
It's not a requirement to do any of those things as a woman. You won't be cast out of society if you don't want to. Nor should you be looked down on if you do.
And men do no preening do they? Some male friends of mine have more elaborate beauty regimes than me.
You can see it as sexism or a feminist issue if you like, but it's not as far as I'm concerned. My body, I'll do what I like. People can assume it's because of cultural influence, porn, fashion or whatever else they please but I refuse to be dictated to what I 'should' do by anyone.

Witchofthenorth · 03/04/2015 21:09

prima I find nair to be much more effective than immac.

base9 · 03/04/2015 21:11

I don't care what anyone shaves or waxes or lasers. But it is a fact that this is a relatively recent, and rapid, cultural shift, and it has a very identifiable starting point in the spread of porn online. It has nothing to do with individual women thinking they want to look like porn stars or 10 year olds. I don't get why that is hard to accept.

Someone way, way up.thread asked why the non-fanjo shavers (usually older) dealt with shaving legs and pits. I explained that we do so to comply with social pressure, which was different when we grew uP, but also convinced us that bare legs and pits was cleaner, neater, sexier. None of that is actually true, we do it b/c society has pretty much brainwashed us into that viewpoint. It does indeed feel wrong to go about with unshaved pits now, I would certainly say I prefer the feeling and I do it for myself. But the reason I do it is nothing to do with actual hygeine and goes deeply into cultural expectations.

So yeah, people saying it is entirely their choice, I think you may not see this extraordinary shift to fanjo-baldness over a generation.

Do as you please. I will continue to shave my legs and my pits even as I acknowledge that Naomi Woolf was quite right. A.little knowledge about what impacts your decisions is only a good thing. We do not make our choices in a vacuum.

SkaterGrrrrl · 03/04/2015 21:21

Yes, every women under 40 in the Western world has made an individual choice Hmm all by herself that she suddenly wants to rip her pubes out.

Guess what. You are being influenced by your friends, by mumsnetters, by women you see changing at the gym, by magazines and by celebrities into making your "personal individual choice".

The personal is political, people.

santamarianovella · 03/04/2015 21:23

I'm really surprised by this whole waxing is a product of pornograhy, there is porn with women who don't shave, and its popular too, so where does that stand, what do we make of it? Be appalled by it or praise it?

Men addiction to porn or viewing of porn has nothing to do with women preferences to shave or wax, , the industry survives on porn of different types body shapes, all ages, various races, its not just young women with shaved private parts.

Many women and men choose to shave or wax, because they like it,why is it hard to accept this? , it has become the norm for some, it doesn't have a negative effect on anyone, I certainly don't lose any brain cells every time I wax, why are some people so hang up on something that has nothing to do with the world around us,

Primadonnagirl · 03/04/2015 21:24

Thanks witch

Witchofthenorth · 03/04/2015 21:25

I'm not saying that there isn't a correlation between bald fannies and porn....I'm saying that I wasn't influenced by porn or any other woman to remove my pubic hair. I don't feel the need to discuss the state of my pubes with family or friends, you lot on here and my DP are the only ones that know Grin

I went hairless a loooooong time ago and have remained that way, unless I have an I can't be arsed removing it phase. Long before I watched a porn film. Or even took any interest in watching porn.

Only1scoop · 03/04/2015 21:25

Well I'm over 40 and have always had my preference to have smooth legs ....pits....of late lip and chin Confused....and yes....smoothish bush!!

Regardless of whether I'm in a relationship or not having sex for years....it's my personal preference.

Only1scoop · 03/04/2015 21:26
