How much did your handbag cost?

Mine cost about £20 from TK Maxx. Pleather. Not all that nice tbh.

Looking for a new one and I can't afford the ones I like. I'm not even bothering to put them onto wishlists at shops I like because, frankly, I don't wish to pay £1,500 for a bag. For that cash, I wish to go on holiday to somewhere sunny. But maybe I'm not quite getting this right. I've never felt defined by a bag like, say, a coat.

How much did yours cost - and was it worth it?

£20 in Mango - reduced from £40. Have had it to work for 2 years and it is only now starting to look a bit shabby.

ChippyMinton · 26/03/2015 21:55

Look a bit harder in TKMaxx! I have a John Galliano that was £40 instead of £400 Shock and today I bought a lovely Paul Costello, also £40, instead of £150.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/03/2015 21:55

I have several, from charity shop £1 ones to around the £175 mark, and some that are second hand so I got much cheaper than they would be new.

Justusemyname · 26/03/2015 21:57

£79. It's from M&S and the most expensive bag I have. I've not bought a bag since buying after buying about twenty previously.

Honeybear30 · 26/03/2015 21:57

My pre baby bag was £80 from House of Fraser and it had a matching purse which was also £80. I loved it. Then I went and had a baby so had to get a nappy bag. To make up for the sadness at the loss of my much loved bag I went and spent £200 on a babybeau change bag. I now also love this bag! I figure I'm stuck with it for a few years. It's an investment.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/03/2015 21:58

I have four that I use quite a lot.

Kipling number one - £60
Kipling number two - £40
Hobbs leather - £60 in a sale
No idea what brand leather - £30 in TK Maxx

I wouldn't spend more than £60/70. I've got a Gucci one that I won in a poetry writing competition of all things (!) and I hardly ever use it.

courgettesoup · 26/03/2015 22:04

£40 black leather roomy Fossil - TK Maxx. So, yes OP, look harder!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 26/03/2015 22:06

Currently using an East bag. Hemp I think, but looks like linen, lovely chartreusse green colour, leather handles, about £25.

Littlepumpkinpie · 26/03/2015 22:10

I have many different handbags I pay up to £80 for a decent leather bag in TK max love that shop for bargins.

Mintyy · 26/03/2015 22:12

My poshest handbag came from Jones Bootmaker and cost £80-£90 iirc. It is a tan leather satchel style, but smaller than a satchel.

Saurus72 · 26/03/2015 22:12

I like nice bags (nice, but not extortionate), but I don't ever pay full price. So, a quick summary of my best bags:

Russell & Bromley zip code cross body, small but beautiful £150 reduced to £95
Ally Capellino beautiful cream, can be a shoulder bag or a cross body £295 reduced to £150 (but I paid £100 cos I had a gift voucher)
Jaeger saddle bag, £350 reduced to £99
Whistles navy tote £130 reduced to £30 or £35, can't remember
Lulu Guinness cross body £150-ish, reduced to £50

The thing with me is that I really like good quality things, and while I take reasonable care of them, I hate the thought of being scared to use anything because it was so expensive that I don't want to risk damaging it. That's why I can't see me ever paying over £100-ish for a bag.

Fauxlivia · 26/03/2015 22:14

Mine was £70. It's a grey bucket bag from a brand called nice things.

AddToBasket · 26/03/2015 22:18

Saurus - I dream of Ally Capellino! I've never actually touched one but I know that I would love one of her bags.

£20 waxed cotton bag from Brakeburn. It has little reindeer on it and was supposed to be just for Christmas but it is a good size and comfortable to carry.

I hate leather - too heavy.

BooChunky · 26/03/2015 22:20

I have bags that were free with magazines, bags that were around £30 all the way up to a mulberry at £795...

BooChunky · 26/03/2015 22:21

And I didn't buy it for myself, but I would pay it if I needed to replace it, I love it.

chanie44 · 26/03/2015 22:21

I like bags, but due to my circumstances. (A mixture of finances and young children) wouldn't spend more than £200 on a bag at the moment.

I have two main bags and a couple of occasional bags like clutches etc.

Main bag - I was looking for a new everyday handbag for months. I bought one for £60 from Tk maxx. I didn't love it, but it was the best I saw at the time.

Second bag - a grandala, reduced from £199 to £99. It's lovely soft leather and well made. I use it a lot, but not everyday, as I fear it will get trashed around my children.

Nerf · 26/03/2015 22:22

My favourite one is a silver satchel that cost 120. Most expensive is to be handed down to dd - mulberry satchel. Love my 80 quid m and s autograph bag at the moment.

dangerrabbit · 26/03/2015 22:23

Agnes B large black leather tote, £200. Had it for ages, makes every outfit look smart, have not needed to buy a new one since!

Boomf · 26/03/2015 22:25

Handbags aren't my 'thing' so I don't have loads but what I do have I love!

I've got a couple of Mulberries which are currently being rested in my cupboard and I have a Marc Jacobs Mini Natasha which is quite nice

My ABSOLUTE favourites right now are my new, gorgeous LK Bennett Jenna bag. It's really beautiful, very high quality ( and it shows ) and was £450. That's a lot for me to pay for a bag but I really loved this bag from the moment I saw it

I also use the Jigsaw ' Alicia ' bag which is really nice too.

Strokethefurrywall · 26/03/2015 22:26

I do like my bags - at the moment I'm rocking an electric blue Marc Jacobs which was about $500 I think, but was my 'back to work and I don't have to fit pampers, bottles and pacifiers in here' bag.
I have bags ranging from $100 on up to $800 and I treat them all with love!

AddToBasket · 26/03/2015 22:34

I think I'm dissatisfied because I'm not a 'handbag person' but I just like handbags that happen to be expensive.

I like that Jigsaw Alicia one, just been looking at it. Which colour do you have Boom?

HarrietSchulenberg · 26/03/2015 22:34

I have a little, square, chunky one with a million pockets that was £1.50 from a charity shop Blush .
I also have a couple that I made out of the kids' old jeans and cords. I always get good comments about those but kids are mortified by them Grin.
I feel very slovenly now because I haven't got a "decent" handbag.

TeaAddict235 · 26/03/2015 22:35

£40 grey leather bag from River Island, bought on ebay new for £15 Grin
