Have name changed.

How old do I look? Please be honest. I know I have a fat face :( I am having hair cut on Saturday. Feel like I look frumpy. WDYT? What would you do? My hair is naturally straight.

Except that time Hmm

jasmine1979 · 05/02/2015 12:58

I agree that the side fringe is a massive improvement. Smile It's amazing what a difference it makes. If you try flicking the ends out a bit as well then I think it would help soften the hairstyle you currently have. I also agree that growing your hair just a couple of inches would look nice and give a softer look.
I also have fine hair like you, and sometimes just a quick spray of dry shampoo into the roots after washing and drying my hair really helps to give my hair volume and texture without looking or feeling like I've used lots of products in it.

ophiotaurus · 05/02/2015 13:02

I have read the thread and have seen you have done an age reveal but I thought you looked 30. Well done on the weight loss so far!

PrimalLass · 05/02/2015 13:16

A side fringe looks great - takes 10 years off you. I'm a big fringe fan as I think it makes 'ladies of a certain age' me look younger, but you're only 30 so don't need it.

PrimalLass · 05/02/2015 13:17

My favourite haircut so far has been a long but very graduated (at the back) bob. I'll go back to it once I get over my midlife crisis need for long hair.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 05/02/2015 13:23

I think the trying to guess an age game is always prone to upset, which is why I didn't attempt it, well, that and your current namechange OP.
All the comments have been meant kindly to help you make the best of yourself and pointing out the number of plus points as well as the style errors that can be easily fixed.

Sometimes it's hard to work out whether what we like really suits us and where we can do better. It often seems so obvious to other people, but everyone is just trying to help.

You know now what a lot of people are saying, you need to try and take away from a round face shape rather than emphasize it and to use slimming shapes rather than ones that reinforce roundness e.g. the top you like, which is so much more flattering having a V neckline. Keep mom's gift for wearing in the house Smile

I like the sideswept fringe much better too and if you get your stylist to give you some longer layers and suggest some product maybe? it will look different again. Take your time don't just allow yourself to be fobbed off, really talk through what she can do and how to care for the style yourself.

XiCi · 05/02/2015 17:15

From your first photo I thought mid to late 40s and with your last photo thought you looked mid to late twenties. Your skin is lovely so it is your hairstyle that is really ageing you.
Are you near a big city. Could you afford to book with a stylist in a top salon for a consultation, see what they suggest?

oldladyhair · 05/02/2015 17:37

I appreciate all of your comments. Thank you for the kind comments about my skin, I am very lucky that it is so clear.

I was a bit :( last night at 40s but I asked for opinions and I got them.

I will have my hair cut and go from there.

I am reluctant to grow it long because I have no neck so it very quickly flicks up from my shoulders and looks shit.

I started going to a new hairdressers recently so I will go there and see what she suggests when I say I want a change.

Don't feel down. It's really only your hair that could do with a change, and that's easily fixed.

Greengardenpixie · 05/02/2015 19:57

The side fringe is much better.
You look your age in both the second and third. The first picture made you look older. Before you posted your age, i looked at the second photograph and thought you were younger than mid to late thirties. Dont lose heart. Get your hair done, continue with the weight loss and get different funkier glasses or even get lenses!!!

squoosh · 05/02/2015 20:01

OP the people who know you in real life will be better placed to judge how young/old you look. If they generally tell you that you look younger than your age well then you must. We're looking at a static image, really not the same as seeing someone in real life.

Anyway you do look so much younger in the second photo. I see a side fringe in your future! Smile

MrsTawdry · 05/02/2015 20:07

Ooh it's so much nicer to the side OP! Your face is there! I think you only looked older in the first pic...lighting and angle can do terrible things!

SwedishEdith · 05/02/2015 20:13

Side fringe really suits you. Sorry if any comments have upset you but squoosh is right, your friends are a better judge of RL you than us judging from 2 photos on the internet.

MrsTawdry · 05/02/2015 21:04

Op don't let the comments which weren't very flattering be the only ones you think of....you remember how well you've done...you've lost a LOT of weight already and this is the start of your reinvention. You really do have lovely features...nobody could see them before...but they are lovely and you're pretty.

Nancy66 · 05/02/2015 21:35

So much better with side fringe. I agree you need layers and texturing but NOT a pixie cut.

burnishedsilver · 05/02/2015 22:03

Your skin and eyes say 25. Your hair says 50. All you need to change us the hair. Keep up whatever you're doing with your skin!

burnishedsilver · 05/02/2015 22:08

I'd suggest this cut and colour.

Don't crop it. A crop is so hard to get right. I looked years older and double chinned with a crop. It was a big mistake.

grisclair · 05/02/2015 22:39

I'm gonna go against the majority here and say I prefer the blunt fringe in the first picture. I would however grow the sides slightly longer as the current length makes your face look fuller. More like this:

You have great skin and I would love a strong red lip and some contouring on you.

Not keen on your glasses, I think they look a bit dated - sorry. If you want a change without spending a fortune maybe check out Ace & Tate. All glasses are £89 including prescription lenses and an eye test. You can order 3 pairs for a free home try-on which is so much nicer than choosing a pair at the optician's (I always get talked into buying stuff that doesn't suit me when under pressure from shop assistants).

I like the V-neck top on you but would go for darker colours for a bit more contrast to your skin.

grisclair · 05/02/2015 22:43

Sorry, just noticed that the Ace & Tate home try-on is not available in the UK, so just ignore that idea. Are contact lenses an option?

Mulligrubs · 06/02/2015 10:09

I think some people need their eyes testing, OP you absolutely do not look like you're in your 40s. Before you revealed I guessed 28-30.

I wear glasses a lot and I find that a blunt fringe doesn't really go well - I think it's because a lot of your face is quite covered up. Side fringe definitely looks great. I also have quite fine hair like you and mine looks awful any longer than shoulder length as it looks all straggly so as some have said maybe a bit more texture so you can sort of mess it up a bit will look more stylish and thicker.

Well done on your weight loss 3.5 stone is amazing!

HaveAGoodDay · 06/02/2015 10:39

I've a similar shape face to yourself and wear glasses, but i'm older than you :(

Anyway - honestly, i would grow your length down, so its a bit longer, i think even if you get it so it rests on your shoulders would suit you better. I had a short crop many many years ago and couldn't wait until it grew out, i have a short thick neck. I think yes to a softer, feathered side fringe too.

The side fringe looks great!

Grisclair - in the UK we have glasses direct that I mentioned earlier. They sound quite similar to Ace & Tate and allow you to try on pairs for free too.

bluesbaby · 06/02/2015 13:13

When I saw your first photo OP I thought late 30s ... and will tell you I partially guessed that because of the decor around you Grin Not many people in their 20s have what looks like a lovely cottage done up with proper wood cladding etc and stone walls... we can't afford it Grin

Your actual face is much much younger, you have not a hint of a wrinkle. You have good hair. Looks like it might swish in real life. Side fringe is way to go I think. Maybe experiment a little with hair wax / sea salt sprays to get a little wave / texture going on.

jasmine1979 · 10/02/2015 15:40

How did your haircut go on Saturday op?
