How old do I look? What should I do with my hair?

Have name changed.

How old do I look? Please be honest. I know I have a fat face :( I am having hair cut on Saturday. Feel like I look frumpy. WDYT? What would you do? My hair is naturally straight.

I guessed about 30 earlier in the thread, but thought your skin looked younger than that. Am v chuffed to have been right! I can't see how some people have said you look in your 40s - I don't see that at all.

scarletforya · 05/02/2015 08:12

Yes! I said 28, I knew you weren't 35 and 40! I would have even said 24 at a push.

I think people guessed older because the hair ages you. Your skin tells the real story.

Nextwednesday · 05/02/2015 08:19

Definitely grow it longer and have soft layers put in and a side fringe.

For now, just have a trim, maybe a few layers. Your fringe won't take long to grow and train it to go to the side.

Your skin is great. Why don't you try rimless glasses?

QueenCardigan · 05/02/2015 08:34

I really like your bob. It looks really healthy and shiny and we'll cut. If it's fine and gets straggly I'd be careful of having too many layers as sometimes it can make it worse. My hair is similar and it takes just the right balance of layers to make it look good.

RiverTam · 05/02/2015 08:35

hey! I guessed right. Ignore everyone who said older, they're the ones who clearly need their eyes tested. Christ, they'd all put me down as in my 60s, I should think.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/02/2015 08:43

The first picture was just quite unflattering. If you had just posted the second I think more.people would have said a lower age. If people say you look young IRL then the second pic is obvipushy a truer reflection of you. I wouldn't worry

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/02/2015 08:43

Err obviously. .don't know what my phone was up to there

LillyEvans · 05/02/2015 08:52

You look about 28-30.

Your hair looks like it's in lovely condition but I think the style is quite harsh and not one many people could pull off.

I'd ask the hairdresser to lighten it up around your face. Move the parting to the side, make the fringe less heavy and make the overall length choppy. Maybe some lighter highlights put in as well. I think if you tell the hairdresser you want a less severe style and just give an idea of what you're trying to achieve, most decent ones will know what to do.

I think when you next get glasses maybe go for a slightly thinner frame as well. I like your current ones but they do hide a lot of your face and you gave lovely skin, don't hide it. Smile My db uses a site to get cheaper ones, I think its glassesdirect.co.uk Smile

ihave2naughtydogs · 05/02/2015 09:12

Sometimes round neck jumpers / tops can make your face look rounder so just be aware of that.

PrimalLass · 05/02/2015 09:16

Don't go pixie. I would keep the length but give it some body, like the picture AsaWhistle posted.

Quitelikely · 05/02/2015 09:25

Your hair is well cut. Very tidy. I think you should grow it to elongate your face as it's compounding the roundness of it at the moment.

Well done for losing 3.5 stone. Koko at it.

NeitherHereOrThere · 05/02/2015 09:28

How about a choppy short bob like this one which is supposed to be good for round faces ?

Ejzuudjej · 05/02/2015 09:33

I thought mid - late 20s.
And I agree with Asa's pic ^^ A long side fringe and highlights would funk you up.

AgathaF · 05/02/2015 09:54

You have a pretty face and great skin. Nothing wrong with your glasses either. Your hair is doing you no favours though. I think get some different coloured high/low lights in it to add texture. Grow out the very heavy fringe and maybe add a few layers to add a little volume. Something like this would suit you.

Really well done on the weight loss.

SpanielofDoom · 05/02/2015 10:32

I thought you looked quite a bit older than you actually are, but the thing is, you can change that, easily.
It's your image that's aging you, not fundamentals that you can't do much about, like bad skin etc. Your skin is gorgeous. Change your hair, change your top (sorry OP's mum!) and you'll look great.

With a different hairstyle I think your glasses may work, although at the moment the frame seems a bit heavy for you.

Well done on the weight loss!

hellsbellsmelons · 05/02/2015 10:38

I think grow the fringe out as well.
It just chops your face in half making it look shorter and dumpier.
You could pin your fringe back and post a pic so we can see what you look like without it.
But a bit longer bob with sweeping fringe is definitely the way to go.
And... NO WAY to do you look 40!

pinkfrocks · 05/02/2015 10:43

You will get more fullness in the sides if you allow your fringe to grow out from the back, because at the moment it's taking away a lot of the hair that would be on the sides of your face.
For glasses you could perhaps- in the future- go for something less angular with a softer frame and they also look quite wide for your face.
Well done on the weight- keep going.

oldladyhair · 05/02/2015 11:05

Ok last photo. This is just now with my fringe pulled to the side, is that better? Please don't comment on my top, I like it!

Yes, the side fringe definitely looks better.

polyhymnia · 05/02/2015 11:17

Yes, I think that is better - and would be even better if cut to make it more choppy - several really good styles like that have been suggested upthread. I wasn't sure if you are going back to your original hairdresser on Saturday. I'd be wary of that if they gave you the current style, which really doesn't flatter you at all. As said, personally I'd go for some consultations with one or two of the best local stylists you can afford.
But if there's someone at the usual place who you're confident will listen to you about the improvements you want and is a skilful cutter, I guess that'll be OK.

The glasses do look better like this too, but I think you could find an even better shape - less heavy and rectangular- so I'd keep those on the to-do when budget allows list.

Can't see much of your top but the neckline is much better for you.

hellsbellsmelons · 05/02/2015 11:18

Yes indeed - makes your face look longer and far less.... well you know where I'm coming from.
Nothing wrong with the top by the way!
And definitely smile more - you look so lovely when you are smiling - as we all do!

Nextwednesday · 05/02/2015 11:22

Yes miles better.

Nextwednesday · 05/02/2015 11:23

Good on you for taking what everyone is saying. I dont know if I could.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 05/02/2015 11:24

Have you ever tried contacts? They're not for everyone, I know, but maybe worth a go if you haven't tried them before? Also, Specsavers does a month's trial, and if you get on with them, you sign up to a subscription but you also get a free pair of glasses.

I love the hair Neither linked to! Try that! Also bright lipstick is brilliant for making you look better/younger/funkier.
