ShopGrin oh yes I never did actually get round to telling you what the clothing emergency was actually about, did I? She's a total nightmare like that. Ps I will respond to your last text in a min.

libertychick · 18/01/2015 18:18

Novice I used to have the reverse issue with my godmother who didn't like how big I was. She would buy me Christmas presents of underwear in size 8 when I was a size 14 and then tell me it was supposed to be an incentive to lose weight Grin

LinusDKD · 18/01/2015 19:20

Evening!

Not had time for a proper catch-up yet but I couldn't live without mascara and blusher. If I really had to choose one it would have to be mascara as I can pinch my cheeks (very Jane Austen heroine-like) to make them rosy.

BrandyAlexander · 18/01/2015 21:33

Evening all! Sat in bed doing nails, contemplating what on earth I am going to wear this week. yeah, I am a deep thinker I think my trouser suits might justify why they survive my annual cull. It's going to be sooo cold!

BrandyAlexander · 18/01/2015 21:35

I should say, as soon as my nails are dry, I have my Lakeland mag to look at. Very excited.Grin

Lib, omg, your godmother has a bloomin' cheek!Shock

libertychick · 18/01/2015 21:39

My essential are lippy and a tweezers!

Have been thinking a lot today. Having shop try on lots of my clothes was an eye opener. My clothes looked so different on her! It has made me realise how important it is to experiment a bit and try on different things.

Secondly, the style analysis has made me think about what suits me and made me realise that I struggle a lot with balancing what suits me with trying to look at least vaguely fashionable! I don't look naturally cool and it's very easy with my shape, looks and inate conservatism to look frumpy. I think I need to focus more on the finer details. It's small things like the style of a belt or shape of a heel that can tip a look from frumpy into chic and noticing those details is not my strong point!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 18/01/2015 21:41

Hehe novice Grin

I am slobbing on the sofa, feeling full from earlier, organising wedding stuff. Going there today has really made me realise how near it is and how much I still have to do! I could not be an events planner, yet I am a control freak. I managed to delegate one thing to DP earlier though.

The stories of people gifting the wrong size clothes are terrible! It reminds me of a sweet thing my sister said on the style day - the only 2 people she trusts when she is shopping for clothes are herself and me. We both got vouchers for Christmas! Grin

libertychick · 18/01/2015 21:42

novice I could write a book about my godmother! Blooming cheek barely covers it Grin. I think my parents regretted their choice of spiritual exemplar!

OneLittleLady · 18/01/2015 21:44

My 'aunt' used to buy me clothes in her size which was a 32 when i was a size 12. funnily enough i used to end up 'giving' them to her. i'm certain she used the pretense of giving me gifts to buy clothes for herself

dp is going abroad for work next weekend. i don't quite know why i'm sad about it as we live so far apart anyway but i am. my new desk arrives tomorrow and Dbro is coming to take apart the old one and Dbil will be over in the week to hang my new print for me. Must finsih off my presentation, it's been put back a week so i have extra time to practice running through it

muddlingalongquitenicely · 18/01/2015 21:59

My mil either says im too thin when i have list weight but when i regain some of it again she tells me i look better with some weight off me! She also buys me stuff in my size but is meant for someone a lot older than me.
Im looking at some wedge trainers and wondering if i have missed the boat with them and they wont look fashionable.
Liberty i know what you mean about balancing what suits you with whats fashionable. I struggle with it and its gets me down hopefully i get some key pieces this year and dress them accordingly.

Drywhiteplease · 18/01/2015 22:36

I've been in bed with Netflix and an Amaretto for the last 2hrs....bliss!

liberty I totally agree. Small details like skirt length with the tight footwear, hair cut, jewellry, belt etc....it all counts , a complete mine field though.

Shop I should have kept the burgundy bit I cut off for you! could have made a hat or something Grin

Sorry liberty just repeated what you said. French women look so chic and I think it's because they just know what suits them, aren't so worried about being on trend, fantastic at grooming.....at least the Frenchies I know are like that.

libertychick · 18/01/2015 22:40

Snap muddling! 4 years after they were edgy and after swearing I would never wear them I am thinking about wedge trainers too. I think the ones like the Isabel Marant Bobby trainers hit that classic but a little bit cool vibe - santa wears them so they must be chic!

libertychick · 18/01/2015 22:48

I agree dry lots of French women get it right. I notice though lots of European women are v stylish. The HoC session really helped me get my make up colours right and just that and wearing some gold jewellery this week has made me feel a lot more pulled together.

shopafrolic · 18/01/2015 22:56

And I say again Lib's make up looked beautiful - she was glowing

Fedupnagging · 19/01/2015 08:08

Morning,

Novice the makeup arrived whilst I was away Flowers, thank you so much. I will have a play around when I finally get out of my pj's.

The only purchase I made this weekend was Jo Malone perfume. There was nothing that stood out for me clothes wise and everywhere was busy so not great for idly browsing and trying on for the sake of it. Not a bucket bag in sight disappointingly. Still, the cocktails and food were lovely.

Lib and Shop, great clothes swap.

The make up I couldn't do without is definitely lipstick with mascara a very close second.

Dmil always used to hound dh about his weight and then offer to make him a fried egg and sausage sandwich Hmm

Stokey · 19/01/2015 09:17

I'm with you Fedup. Lipstick is the thing that really lifts my face, I quite often go without eye make-up. I do like a bit of blusher too as if it's not mid-summer, I'm rather pale.

All this talk of bucket bags has reminded me of my first ever "proper" handbag purchase, which was a rip-off Fendi bucket bag in a Bangkok market aged 15. I loved that bag, no idea what happened to it.

shopafrolic · 19/01/2015 09:57

Morning all - another lipstick fan here too - although I have only just realised the benefits - a bright lipstick really lifts my whole face.
Lib I have your fuchsia sweater on today with the black elbow patches and my black skinnies (again), snow boots on feet - it is brutally cold here so god knows what it is like in Scotland (-12 overnight Shock )
A morning of internet banking, Poundland for party bits and cleaning here.
What's everyone wearing to keep warm?

QueenCardigan · 19/01/2015 10:22

I've just been wearing multiple layers and stripping them off at outdoor circuits. no idea what I'll wear today yet.

I know what you mean about the little details. Sometimes even a 'classic' item can change its cut slightly year on year and can look dated. I always look for details in my clothes since the style day. I no longer wear plain tops, there needs to be some pink tucks or embroidery or quirky sleeve detailing for me.

blsir it's really near now but so exciting. I'll have to start a pin board of our outfits to virtually attend your wedding. Now remind me, who likes a hat?
fedup glad you had a good weekend

OneLittleLady · 19/01/2015 10:26

I like a hat QueenC

Just moving what I can out of the way for my new desk to be fitted. Dbro should be here soon to move the rest I think so I better get out of my pjs. Also have some parcels to wrap up to be sent off so best get on with those too

MarshaBrady · 19/01/2015 11:28

Argh at morning, vogue style fail in meeting. Am dying.

Am caffeinated to eyeballs which doesn't help. Shame time in slow motion.

Am pinning pretty pictures to get over it. ARGH

libertychick · 19/01/2015 11:44

Oh Marsha what happened??? Much sympathy but your post has made me laugh Smile

I am wearing the lovely cream APC jumper I got from shop layered over a taupe M&S heatgen long sleeve T, Tommy Hilfiger straight leg jeans. Will add tan boots, navy parka and orange Hobbs scarf when i leave the house.

libertychick · 19/01/2015 11:46

It's a work from home day and DH and I are going to go out for lunch we are actually having a date Smile

MarshaBrady · 19/01/2015 11:50

I had a double espresso before and I was practically frothing coffee and it got stuck on my teeth, I looked at the end after in the mirror.

It was a difficult meeting and my energy + caffeine was distastrous. I'm glad you laughed, laughing is the only thing that will save me now.

Doesn't help that this is up there with bad feet for me.

Slightly better than having the d part of d&v in a meeting or getting skirt stuck in undies.

Brilliant re the date!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 19/01/2015 12:04

Oh Marsha I'm sorry but couldn't help a little chuckle! Am sure it wasn't as bad as you thought and no one noticed.

Have fun Lib and LibDH

QueenC I know! yesterday was the first time it really started to sink in, though I knew it would get more intense after Christmas. I still have so much to do! I've just decided to get my bridesmaids personalised coral robes as part of their presents, so they can wear them while we get ready and also the next day in the spa. Then will probably get them some jewellery each too.
